He may play a lot of Futurama characters and Popeye, but he'll always be Doug to me.

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name is Ren and Stimpy.

Ah, the classics.

Anyway I've had the infamous 30 day ban so sorry I haven't been 'round, but I bet most of you either didn't notice or enjoyed my absence.

Nothing too knew with me. Didn't get a lot of anime/manga for christmas but thats ok cause I got a Ipod video instead.

Initially I only watched the first 3 seasons of ranma but during my absence I mangaged to watch season 4 - 6 among other shows.

What animes/mangas have you guys got/watched/read this past month or so?

Um yeah sure. O_o But you do know we have PMs now for this sort of thing. Give me a few days and I'll see what I can do. I got some new brushes for CS3 that I've been wanting to try out.

Any sort of theme you'd want or character in it? PM me with the details.

I'll bet I could make a far better sig.

So much better, that if I made this sig, and you made another sig, other people would all be like "yep, Kuro's is better".

That's how it would happen.

Perhaps a competition between our members to see who can make the best anime sig?

I've already made it.

And I'm wearing it.

But that could be interesting.

---

I just watched Memories, the short film compilation based on three of Katsuhiro Otomo's stories.

The (film) starts out incredibly, with Magnetic Rose (directed by Koji Morimoto, written by Satoshi Kon (though based on a story by Katsuhiro Otomo)), which was an excellent, and poignant short film.

Then after that it goes a bit downhill.

The second one, Stink Bomb, (directed by Tensai Okamura) was much more comical, with a soundtrack bearing resemblance to that of Metropolis (though it didn't work as well). Worse than Magnetic Rose, but still pretty good. It had a very large resemblance to Akira, in style, and general idea.

The third, Cannon Fodder (directed by Katsuhiro Otomo), was the worst of the lot. It was basically 1984 again, except it was even more going into the Soviet Union sort've thing with red being the most used colour. The art style, however, was great, and particularly impressive.

Overall, worth watching.

You will release after watching a lot of episodes of Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann that the characters pull the attacks out of nowhere.

I'm liking Heat Guy J so far. I watched volume 1 and most of volume 2.

Also, I got Hellsing Ultimate 1, 2, and 3 today.

I saw it in a book store the other day, and I was all like "fuck yeah, I'm gonna buy the second one".

Then I found out that they only had copies of something like the 6th and the 9th ones.

Very disappointing.

I'll have to go get it out of the library.

I was impressed with the store though, since it had a bunch of graphic novels which I enjoyed, or wanted to read (Sandman, Fables, Preacher, Y the Last Man, things like that), but again, only ones somewhere later in the series.

The only first volumes I saw of anything were Wonderwoman, and One Piece, neither of which I had much desire to read.

The bookstore 'round here has all eleven volumes.

I'll have to go get it out of the library.

I should renew my library card, as I have found some real pieces of genius in the graphic novel secton (Cromartie High School, Wimbeldon Green, Nausicaa).

It's hard to find good graphic novels around here...

Aside from Transemetropolitan, the awful reprint of V for Vendetta (which I will never buy, as I have the original ten issue edition) and Watchmen, it's just either Superman or Spiderman stuff.

The manga stock in the local shops is worse. Aside from a few short series I have already finished, Mushi-shi is the only thing worth reading.

The only first volumes I saw of anything were Wonderwoman, and One Piece, neither of which I had much desire to read.

The first volume of One Piece was awesome.

The rest of the series is less so.

It`s sad when the pinnacle of a long series is its very first chapter....

I'd have to pay my library fine to get things out.

That's around five dollars.

Long time, no post, gang!

Yep, it's Psyk again. Today, I have a rather special post: I wish to compare the original Hellsing Anime with the recently released Hellsing Ultimate AMVs.

***SPOILERS MAY LIE AHEAD***

Pros of Hellsing (original series):

- Goes more into the history between Alucard and Integra (rather, makes their history more obvious.)

- Helena. I'm sorry, this chick was awesome. Yes, all she did was sit around, but she was strong enough to cause Incognito some serious trouble.

- Badass music.

Cons:

- Not much character development for Alucard, to be honest; he seems more like a heartless killing machine than anything else for quite a bit of the series.

- Focuses a bit much on blowing things apart. Not that big booms are bad, I just like other stuff mixed in.

Pros for the Hellsing Ultimate AMV:

- Superior character development for Alucard: this includes several liberal hints that he is in fact Count Dracula, as well as evidence of actual internal conflict.

- Follows the original manga closely (at least, moreso than the original anime)

Cons:

- Alucard gets blown to pieces even MORE often than in the original, so it's like "Oh shit, you ripped his head off, now you're fucked."

Overall: I like both series, but the one I find myself wanting to rewatch is Ultimate, to be honest.

I think I may still have a fine from like 2005 I haven't paid...

I almost went into a comic book store the other day.

I ended up not going.

True story.

We don't have a comic book store in this town.

The nearest one is on another island, and it's a five and a half hour trip.

True story.

It's because it was purposeless.

If you wanted to know what we've been watching lately, you could have taken a few minutes to browse some of the more recent pages.

I've been watching nothing, I took in six episodes of Black Lagoon: Second Barrage on New Year's day and haven't watched anime since.
