Much agreed.

I got the Pixar Short Film Collection for Christmas, it reminds me of how they're the only good studio for Hollywood animation these days.

I wish 2D animation would have a revival.

Same here.

Maybe this sudden craze of bringing over more and more anime films for limited release screenings (as well as the critical success of films like Paprika and Persepolis) will increase interest in the production of traditional animation in North America.

Oh how depressing television has gotten.

Yep.

99% of programming these days is unwatchable trash.

I really need to see Ratatouille.

I wanted to see it in cinemas, but all my friends seemed to think it looked crap.

I'll get it out when it's on DVD, and I'm in the video store.

The only time I can ever see anime in cinemas is during film festivals, and that's only once or twice a year.

The "or twice" is if there's anime on at the foreign film festival (which I saw Millennium Actress at).

I find it strange that the majority of television shows I watch are anime.

That's never happened before.

I should do the same.

Our film festivals are ignorant of animation in general, let alone anime.

We're getting Persepolis this year, and if we're lucky Paprika may be screened.

The only anime that's been screened theatrically here in the past few years was the first Naruto film, which I was forced by friends to attend.

Beautiful animation, but a totally insipid and uninteresting plot.

Then I can laugh at you for seeing it so late.

I think the last one which was screened outside of a film festival was Howls Moving Castle.

Which I only saw then because I missed it at the previous film festival.

Beautiful animation, but a totally insipid and uninteresting plot.

This is basically the same for Howls Moving Castle.

I find it strange that the majority of television shows I watch are detective series. I never even used to enjoy shows like that whatsoever.

I hate detective series on principle.

This means that I never check them out to see if I'm wrong or not.

You can spend six hours marathoning Law & Order with no prior interest to it...

But you can't do 3 hours of Lucky Star?

Until the 80s, their track record was flawless.

Five.

And I actually thought Lucky Star looked decent before its release.

I was trying to argue the point that watching eight episodes of something you'd need to actually seek out is pointless if you have no interest in it.

I had interest in it, but it ended up being underwhelming, hence I gave up.

It's barely even a metaphor.

It's basically a giant warning.

Seven episodes of boredom is just too much.

For four of those episodes, the creators realised that it was being made badly, and decided the director wasn't fit for the role.

Oh, cool, trivia tidbit.

Perhaps the new director was a driving force behind its getting better?

I'm a bit worried about the main character of Aria the Animation.

She gets an anonymous invitation to a place called "Neverland", which is somewhat far away from the city, and what does she do?

She goes there.

Alone.

I am also about ready to give up this series specifically because the large cat thing in it is the most annoying character ever.
