So I was wondering what I should buy? Mangas, figurines, etc... ?
Get assloads of stupid toys, they can provide minutes of awkward entertainment.
In all seriousness, get a figure of a character from one of your favourite shows. That's how I started collecting, and then it just built up until I ended up with like three shelves full of weird crap and a huge stack of empty boxes.
Is online shopping cheaper? Ya' know, that stuff.
Online shopping is almost always cheaper, especially if you're like me and have accounts on several sites for the purpose of getting a specific something for a low price.
I go to Robert's Anime Cornerstore for domestic DVDs and manga (got some nice statues from there too), Anime Wild for out of print DVDs and rare action figures, Hobby Link Japan for fresh from the factory toys and models (amazing prices, but very limited stock) and Discount Anime DVD for imports and boxsets.

Figurines always seemed pretty useless to me.
Unless you got a lot of them, then you could have a little collection/shrine.
That's what I do.
And you could paint little backdrops and construct scenes for them.
A friend of mine loves doing it, and now that I've started collecting super-articulated figures again as opposed to statues, chances are I'll start doing that as well.
I'm totally fucking addicted to playing with my Revy action figure, the insane poseability provides hours of fun.
