I find a great deal of the highly rated series, OVAs and movies on the site ill-fitting of the praise.

It also managed to make me severely disappointed with Rurouni Kenshin (as I rented a DVD of that a little while afterwards) when I realised it wasn't as badass as the OVA got me believing it was.

Yeah, it's such a major change-up in tone.

Hi guys. I just recently bought the first volume of the Read or Dream manga at Hairy Tarantula in Downtown Toronto earlier today. I'm planning on reading it tomorrow.

Got extremely bored today and caught up on bleach (I was 10 episodes behind where they are on broadcast yesterday) I have to say, they had some pretty fucking god awful fillers for a show that gave the bounto fillers. It's like they purposely wanted to fuck up those episodes.

I went out and bought the first volume of " He is My Master" yesterday at Borders. Is this a good addition to my collection of harem manga? Also, does Gunsmith Cats and/or its spinoff, Gunsmith Cats Burst, have enough fanservice to warrant my purchase of the entire series?

I own the first five manga volumes, and the anime DVD series is in my Netflix queue.

I've seen the anime, and I was kind of interested in the sequel and the manga.

Just tried out watching the first episode of Hidamari Sketch (because I was somewhat intrigued by the anachronic order of the episodes).

God it was boring.

It's another one of these 4-koma, slice of life, high school girl centred anime adaptations, only unlike the others I've seen, it actually feels like somebody just picked a random girl off the street and started tailing her around with a video camera.

The episode seemed to follow a girl going through her daily life, with the only thing happening in the episode being the girl forgetting her homework, which was quickly remedied.

The only conceivable joke in the episode was some sort've quick remark about the girls teacher giving out New Years Cards with the teacher cosplaying as whatever years animal it is, but the situation wasn't handled in a very humourous way.

The only thing that they seemed to do to try and make the episode not feel like the equivalent of holding a mirror in front of you for a day were some assorted face distortions, which were largely unnecessary, and incredibly irritating.

And from what I can tell the anachronic order of the episodes doesn't look like it would serve any real purpose other than to make the series feel like you're randomly selecting pages from some girls diary (though to be fair, I'm basing that off very little).

Does not look like something I'd want to continue.

My hard drive decided to shit all over itself this morning. Had to pull it out and head out into town to a computer store to buy a new one. The store had an amazingly large collection of hentai games also. Spent all afternoon eating Korean BBQ and getting drunk. Going to spend all night getting the new hard drive set up. I just installed Vista on the new hard drive.

Hmmm, Hentai games? Do tell more. Also, Korean BBQ you say? Reminds me of an episode of Azumanga Daioh.

*Silently commits seppuku*

I have a severe distaste for fanservice and harem, in fact, I'd probably go as far to say it's a hatred.

Fanservice can be tolerable when well used, but it should never, ever be used as the mitigating factor for an anime's quality.

As for harem, I just fucking hate the genre so very much.

I love fan service....especially the dead schoolgirl with no skirt at the end of Paranoia Agent (zomg nice ass). Seriously though, I normally just see the service, grin at it, and go back to paying attention to the anime....if there's something so bad that it needs to be covered with fan service in order to be enjoyable, I don't think I'd enjoy it much at all. I'd just overlook everything, get really bored, and not even pay attention to the anime.

Also, I just finished Paranoia Agent.....I have to say, it's one of my favorite series by far. When reading some character bios on wikipedia, one about Maromi kinda gave away a huge part of the story in the first sentence (was so out of place too)...so it really didn't have as much of a punch on me as it could have...but it still had a big one. I love things that are so dark and mysterious, but yet still can make you laugh....and I think I liked the ending too....I'm still thinking about it, trying to figure out what just happened. I like that it even has a message to it...and I think I like that message. This will probably help me out in real situations in the future, in a subconscious way that is. I really appreciate this anime, and to anyone that hasn't watched it yet....well, go do it now!

I decided yesterday to obtain Gurren Lagann, or the first thirteen episodes anyways. Looking forward to that along with Code Geass in this up coming week. That and obtaining the remastered episodes of MSGundam: The 08th MS Team. Still remember watching it when it aired on Toonami late at night.

Good times.

Since fall is coming upon us here soon, anyone looking forward to the new series coming out? So far Gundam 00 is the only one sparking my interests.

At times like this I realize what a mecha fanboy I am. Then I smile and laugh.

I really don't think that counts as fan-service.

It's like saying the *spoilers* rape scene in Perfect Blue was fan service.

Or the nude photo shoot.

i liked Tenchi but that might be due to Ryoko being the first anime character i ever saw. i couldn't watch any other harem anime though like Love Hina. they just felt too similar.

so, harems were made to make insecure teens feel like several hot women will just fall in their lap and want them?

It's sort've like how things like Pokemon make kids think that they can take on the world.

Only more pathetic.

hmm, wonder why i never felt that way when i was an insecure teen? probably because i wanted to smack Tenchi for being so gay. i couldn't just ignore Ryoko like he did.

pretty much anything made for kids is to make them think they can do anything. at least pokemon said they needed a well trained animal (+/- spirit, heart, and junk) to do it; something they can't do in reality.

Since this is where all the hip kats and groovy foxes hang out, I thought it would be most wise to query you peepsters if Zen444 still posted around these parts?

Oh and to show appreciation and contribution to this here Annie-May threaded topic, here is a jpeg picture of Cowboy Bebop. I found it most entertaining. (For all of you wanting to save this picture to your hard drive, be warned for it is 8.3 Kilobytes in size!)

Well, I'll give out the mandatory rules for the club.

1. Post your five favourite anime, and why you like them.
2. Post some anime you hate. Explain if you want.
3. Tell us what got you into anime. (Which is think is a dumbass question because most people say DBZ).

OPTIONAL: If you want, you can do what I do and choose an anime character to represent you. I do it because I'm cool.

I haven't ever seen him post here, and I've been around these parts for quite some time.

In fact, I've never seen the man outside General board.
