Fuck, do I have to say it? Watch it before you judge. God, if it's lame to you, it's lame them. But, if you can't give the anime a chance, give the manga a shot. The manga is amazing.

Does he need to watch it to say it doesn't sound appealing?

In the same way that I can say that dog shit doesn't sound all that delicious, he's still allowed to say that the idea doesn't appeal to him without watching it.

But I enjoy the terrible threads, they allow me to be condescending without feeling bad.

That's what used to draw me to General, back when I made nine billion posts a day.

Besides, there's always the occasional gem.

I noticed, friends tend to PM me when a good thread pops.

Maybe I should just start a gimick.

It'd be worth a lulz.

Like... I'm an irritating Scottish guy, or I'm a furry.

Accent jokes and stereotypical internet behaviour sell very well these days.

You don't?

Nope.

What the fuck has NG led me to believe?

LIes, blatant lies.

I always feel left out with the multitudes of 'I just bought' posts.

Aw, muffin.

Because I never buy anything.

I buy too much.

At 8/11/07 01:21 AM, Kuro wrote: Bounty Hunters doesn't sound like a genre of anime which has been extorted too much.

It can be a running 'theme', much like mafia/yakuza or racing to some extent, but most 'Bounty Hunter'-based stories fall right into place under "Adventure".

For an anime to work when it has been done before it has to have some great plotlines or characters to outweigh the genericy.

Unless it is a blatant copy, it feels rather moot to argue how 'generic' a show is if compared with others which share the same genre because they fall within a category for a good reason. <_<

As for 'redemption by character and element', some characters just fail horribly at being unique due to sub-par writing, though there are the less typical or plain 'invincible' characters that keep fans loving such as Roy Fokker (Macross), Ryo Saeba (City Hunter Series) and Kamina (Tengen Toppa).

Of course I could have added Kenshiro, though people would sense a trend in given examples.

And how many anime's try to do that?

Naturally, that would depend on your perspective of each show and your knowledge of the show's genre or message/moral/teaching it wants to give.

Some people just don't have an eye for some shows like how Gendo hates the typical Harem show.

As for me, I don't really have a good feel for Car-oriented shows like Initial D but only because I have not learnt or had the chance to drive a car enough to get a better understanding on how advanced techniques are pulled off.

Wouldn't be the first one.

First being the song "Sore wa Ai Desho?" (FMP?F OP) in the ending for Episode 3, if I remember correctly.

Currently in the middle of the first meeting of the NS /A/, and so far it's been epic.

The dub of Higurashi is awful, Azumanga Daioh is even more fun to watch with a room full of people, Nightwalker is pretty blah and every member of this club kicks ass.

We're gonna meet once a month for 15 hours a session (it's not half as brutal as it sounds) and we'll have a nice rotating line-up of anime (today's schedule was Higurashi, Azumanga, Nightwalker, Scrapped Princess and Hellsing Ultimate).

Hopefully I'll be able to force these people to watch Black Jack and/or Harlock soon....

Yeah, that'd be fantastic.

Well, the meeting's finally over. Shit was totally amazing.

Scrapped Princess ROCKED MY BALLS OFF, easily the best fantasy series I've seen in many years.

Also, the club loved Hellsing Ultimate, in fact, it was the only anime we didn't talk the whole way through (we carried on long conversations during Azumanga and Nightwalker, plus provided running commentary on Scrapped Princess and roundly trashed Higurashi's general mediocrity and horrid dub during its viewing).

Much agreed, plus it's a really shitty series based on a shitty manga. Plus it steals a central character from the vastly superior drama penned by the genius Hideyuki Kurata, Now and Then, Here and There.

It's even worse than "Half Past Dead".

And that is one of the worst titles of all time.

Also, half of the long series' I've seen have gotten worse along the way, 13 episodes is in the realm of a good amount of episodes for the viewer to not get bored by, and the writers to not run out of ideas.

Any recommendations for a good anime? I'm about to finish up Bleach, and I would like something else to watch in my free time.

I've seen all of Gundam, Big O, Evangelion, and soon to be Bleach. I like animes with deep stories, and I enjoy mechas too (not animes just about the mecha itself, I just like seeing them in the anime....I was very interested in gundam when I was young...and it of course had nothing to do with the gundams themselves, but with the anti-war stuff).

Sorry if this seems out of context, but I don't want to start a new thread somewhere...and I'm desperate to have an anime to go to when I'm done with Bleach.

Mechs and deep plots don't seem to mix(other then Gundam or EVA)

Ah hell just check out RahXephon then.

I think I worded that wrong...I mean, I want something with a deep plot to it, and if it has mechs in it it's a plus. Y'know, just the icing on the cake.

And I'm not desperate enough to check out some random decrepit anime that nobody likes or something XD(not saying what you mentioned is, just tossing it out there).

Okay, I just started watching Last Exile again (again being because I got it out a little while ago, and didn't end up watching any more than the first episode (and I was tired when watching it, so I didn't pay much attention to it)) because I've heard decent things about it, and I'm marginally interested in steam punk.

I've watched the first episode (for a second time), and so far it's shaping up to be good.

It seems to have decent animation, decent character designs (though I still don't like it when anime's have spiky haired protagonists), and a reasonably interesting story (though it hasn't particularly gotten into the story yet, it's just introduced the characters (vaguely)), so I'll probably try to continue it (especially considering it's only 26 episodes, which is what I have deemed to be the best length for an anime). Doesn't seem to be particularly humorous though.

The show has also managed to introduce the stupidest form of warfare ever. You know that type of battle from like... The 19th century where everyone stands in rows, and then fires at each other? It's that, but in airships.

They have these gigantic cannons, which could easily destroy the other ships, but they resort to getting all their soldiers killed in redundant battles.

Anyway.

I'm not too keen on the 3D animation, but it's tolerable. The only complaint I have so far is that the colours look so washed out and un...colourful.

It's nothing too severe, but the series could stand to have a little brightness.

Now, if you want Mech anime, I know of some that I liked.

I was a big fan of G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Big O, and Vandread.

Vandread can also help you get your fill of T&A for the day, but it has a fair amount of cool mech fights.

i think they did that on purpose, for the mood of the story. i don't you think i'd want a drama with bright cheery colors everywhere. i also think it fits the setting of the story as well.
