I can speak Japanese around the Level 2 Language Proficiency, and I have done some translating work in the past so I am not worried about the language barrier. I am sure most big places come in multiple languages anyway so it's the ideal holiday place for our kind of people who enjoy their culture.

Hah, I'm pretty sure that I'm at no where near that level.

Probably because I know very little kanji (150 maybe?).

And somehow I think it would be kind of hard to get people to go to Japan for this meeting.

People (like me) would be unwilling to spend/wouldn't have the money for it.

My Japanese is piss-poor, especially reading-wise.

I'd be like Mugen, able to read one or two characters and totally fucked otherwise.

That said, I only took Japanese for a year, and then did around five years of French (a language I've grown to hate, but being bilingual was necessary where I was living at the time).

And somehow I think it would be kind of hard to get people to go to Japan for this meeting.

Scratch that, make it "impossible".

Yep.

I'm a poor Canadian guy who can't speak the language and wouldn't ever live to pay off the trip and spending money.

I am not very good at it either, but ranks or not, the bottom line is whether you can communicate or not since even all the words in the world would not save you if you cannot communicate it.

That is something even I have trouble with, but only because I have signs of social-phobia.

And somehow I think it would be kind of hard to get people to go to Japan for this meeting.

Well, we could simply schedule it so that it's during vacation time so the chances of making the meetup a reality is much more likely.

2)Keep arguing and see how Wonko managed to keep the trolls out of this thread.

I read from somewhere that MariMite will "turn you into a girl in mid-season and you'll go lesbian for the Onee-sama character".

Somehow, that just makes me curious and drags this title to a 'Sort of want' level. <.<

It's only compulsory in the province of New Brunswick (since they're the bilingual province) and certain jobs all over the country require the language.

French is not a hard language to learn, but the grammar is a bit agitating for native English speakers.

A shame, but maybe someday, no?

I'd certainly love to do it, but even just a trip to Japan is not gonna happen for me in the foreseeable future.

I haven't used French in close to a full year.

In fact, despite five years worth of it, I rarely ever had a practical usage for it (other than once at a restaurant in Moncton and again talking to a photographer in Manhattan).

I see, I see.

I agree with you.
I started learning French during primary school for Extra-Curriculum Activities, but the language just didn't stick to my head no matter how I studied it.

It was also compulsory to study German when I was in Secondary School, which I did adapt well enough to speak somewhat fluently until it was overwritten by my current third language.

I'd certainly love to do it, but even just a trip to Japan is not gonna happen for me in the foreseeable future.

Ah come on, have more ambition than that. XP

German is a fairly easy language for English speakers due to the similarities.

Not to mention German is a cooler language than French.

When I first watched Evangelion in Cantonese VCD Format (before I discovered Wan Chai 188), I was completely stunned by the opening alone.

I still drifted to sleep during Episode 25 and 26 though.

Unless you're good at hard labour, you're either stuck in a call centre or working in retail.

Too bad the series itself loses its quality as it goes on.

True, but I (try to) believe that what we saw on TV (Or in the VHS/CD/DVD versions) is not the final product Gainax intends to show us.

Yeah, but I lost interest fast.

Oh well, I still retained a few words and phrases, so that provides lulz when I'll randomly shout out a translation or quote a line verbatim whilst watching subbed anime with friends.

I prefer translated stuff anyhoo, even watching French television is difficult even though I'm completely bilingual because native Francophones speak way too goddamn fast.

Well of course, knowing your favourite characters' catchphrases and some basic words is pretty far from fluency.

Also, since this province's Asian population is growing (it's mostly Chinese, but some Japanese are beginning to imigrate), maybe fluency in Japanese will become useful for things other than personal entertainment in a few years.

Let alone pronouncing them correctly, in many cases I have heard and seen before.

Many are saying that learning Cantonese/Mandarin will be a big advantage as well, given how fast China is catching up. I wonder if weapons can still be bought for cheap prices on the streets of Beijing. XD

For about a year or so i taught it was the greatest anime song ever. Then i got the internet and found better animu openings.
