There are several films from the decade better

At least 20.

but I have a profound love for Silence of the Lambs, I've seen it around 26 times.

It's good, but I'd get sick of any film by around the 12th watching.

The greatest film of the 90s (or any decade, for that matter) is Leon in my opinion. Flawless motion picture.

I find it hard for me to decide what the best film of any particular collection is.

From the 90's?

Hmm... I dunno.

Magnolia? The Shawshank Redemption? Being John Malkovich?

Well, it's quite possible in 5 minutes I'll realise that those films don't come close, but I've never been good with naming these sort of film lists.

I'm a boring cunt, so endless re-watching doesn't bore me as easily as it does normal humans.

I've seen quite the broad array of films, plus I'm over-opinionated enough to make such judgment calls.

No.

Possibly.

I tried to make a list of my 50 favorites, but gave up 11 in after realizing how out of whack shit was.

Not to mention the hours it would take.

Around ten hours of effort spread out over three days.

I can't do such a thing since i rant to much.

Wouldn't explain how you're not dead yet though.

That I severely doubt.

If I sat down and tried to compile a list, I'm sure I could think of those 20.

But I have the attention span of a gnat, so that's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

I've seen a large amount of films, but that only makes it harder to form a list, doesn't it?

No.

Well, now that I think about it more, I'd take Shawshank off completely, but I'd leave Magnolia in the top 10 at least.

Possibly.

You gotta wonder how the writer comes up with this sort of stuff.

Hahahaha, me too.

I never even try, I find it pretty much impossible to decide which film I like more out of films I like.

I'm adding Nightmare Before Christmas into my list of possibilities, but that's one that could easily be argued against..

Also, the goth-loving part of it has earned it a bad rep.

Damn near.

Yeah, because then you've got prioritize them rigorously (by social relevance, entertainment value, quality of acting/directing/writing, etc.)

Leave it to the social cliques to ruin films.

An attempt to get back on topic:

Best anime film of the 90's?

I say it's a toss up between Princess Mononoke, Perfect Blue (which seems grossly under rated) and Whisper of the Heart (by far the best non Miyazaki directed Ghibli film).

Posers vampires as manufactured by undead Nazis.

That redeems them slightlu.

The four star system is much more efficient, leaves a lot less room for excuses and technicalities..

Yep, God bless 'em.

Corpse Bride was a savage disappointment, not nearly enough songs.

I'd have to say Mononoke gets this nod.

Yes.

Perfect Blue (which seems grossly under rated)

It is quite underrated.

Fuck yes.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

And Perfect Blue is a great film, but it's not exactly for everyone.

It's like the polar opposite of what Miyazaki makes.

But then again, I think that Satoshi Kon is a better director than Miyazaki, since his films seem to have more depth.

Miyazaki centres far too much on his environmentalist message; After Nausicaa I think we got the idea

And yes, Whisper of the Heart is an excellent film.

Nazi's have become less cool over the years.

I liked the Bonejangles song.

I'd have to say Mononoke gets this nod.

Mononoke is good, but it loses points for being too much like Nausicaa.

Fuck yes.

I was pleasantly surprised by Whisper of the Heart after most of the other non-Miyazaki ones sucked.

(The Cat Returns... *shudder*)

But now I've just remembered that Grave of the Fireflies was Ghibli too... So I'll take out that "by far".

Not to mention Kon's style is a Hell of a lot nicer than Miyazaki's "superflat characters, lushly detailed backgrounds" thing.

Not to worry, they've got plenty up their sleeves, a resurge in coolness is imminent.

Yeah, but that's where the actual content of the article comes into play. the four star system puts more focus on discussing a film's overall quality.

I liked the Bonejangles song.

It was the highlight of the film for me.

Mononoke is good, but it loses points for being too much like Nausicaa.

Preachy or not, Nausicaa and Mononoke are great films.

I tend to ignore social messages sent by films, since I more often than not have little interest in whatever the director wants to preach to me (except for documentaries).

Well I hope my ban is over or I'm typing this for nothing! Nothing all that interesting to talk about though. I got the Claymore Episode 16...and guess what? It was actually some stupid 9/11 conspiracy video.

And the Gurren Lagann recap episode happened. I saw that was mentioned. The best part was the ending credits, with all the animation sketches and time-skip concepts. Also you got to see some Time Skip characters. I have no clue who the guy next to Simon is. He was also shown in the first episode future scene.

It's Captain Simon!

Well I plan to also, as long as it has good subtitles. Cus I've seen some cool ones, but some sub-par ones also.

Simon looks about as cool as he did before. I wonder how Yoko looks...cus I guess she still had a little room to grow...ya know...boob-wise.

Well SOMEBODY (i.e. experienced viewers like Gendo or myself) has to bring the 'fanboy' back to reality.

If he wants to share his fandom of a single series, he is better off in fanclubs consisting of Rei fanboys (and not the Hokuto no Ken or Macross 7 one either). <_<

OR, he can give a good argument to see if he can win us over into not flaming him for having a good reinforced opinion of what he likes.

That is where you're too intolerant.

Trigun and Cowboy Bebop is much less aged and less 'mainstream' compared to Evangelion and seeing the broadcasting times, I can tell.

Naturally, I would prefer someone to ask whether I have watched either in any form and counter with the fact that the comic sequels or movies are superior (if available) than to be asked whether I watched a mainstream series like EVANGELION for fuck's sake.

Point taken, but some fanboys are stubborn and ignorant, not to mention Eva is so overhyped and ballyhooed that I'm plain and simple fucking sick of hearing about it.

Good TV show, great manga, awful movies, far from the greatest series ever made.

Now all that is left is to see if they can bring it back with the 'remake' of a movie compilation which does sport new animation.

Way to aim for social relevance.

Not everything that aired before something or was more popular in its initial airing(s) is more mainstream than something else.

Not to mention the cultural differences and such being a determining factor.

Now all that is left is to see if they can bring it back with the 'remake' of a movie compilation which does sport new animation.

Yet another cover of "Fly Me To The Moon", except this one is really fucking horrid.

The point is that all three of those titles are considered relatively 'big' unlike lesser-heard-of names such as "Meiou Keikaku Zeorymer" or "Green Divers".

And I am damn sure that three years is a pretty long time for reruns to compensate for something that only has 26 episodes.

Not to mention the cultural differences and such being a determining factor.

More like the amount of materials aired locally as opposed to the people who do not have cable.
