I am yet to check the character lists, but keep in mind that you cannot choose 'forms' or 'states' of any character if the character has been already chosen (Your character would be given the character's default regardless, though timeline effects may vary).

Character is character. Ranma is both male and female version. Although for the purposes of choosing a character, Ranma is male as that is his default state. If someone where to choose Goku, they are Goku in every version, from small child with a tail to SSJ4.
