Fruits Basket is garbage, not to mention plenty of bad memories are tied to it.

Screw further suggestions, I don't feel like making a list of stuff I have already read or vastly dislike.

Asides from the filler arc in between this is one series which has actually grown into epic proportions and did not suffer too greatly from Gainax's infamous budget mismanagement streak.

Victory is mine! Netflix just added Orphen I and II (although a few volumes are missing), so they're around #275 in my queue.

I've heard of GTO, but never watched it before. I just checked NetFlix and they have volumes 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 right now. The missing volumes are on my save list, and I can't wait to see them, because the trailer kicked ass.
My favorite line is where Onizuka is on his bike, talking to the girl. "There's a name for people like you. I'll give you a hint - it starts with 'bi' and ends with 'atch'."

A WINRAR IS YOU!

My favorite line is where Onizuka is on his bike, talking to the girl.

I managed to get ahold of volumes 1~25 during my stay in Japan, and for only 4000 yen (Roughly $34 USD). Absolute winnage, in terms of both dialogue and art. And there were even cameo appearances from other series as well (parodied or otherwise).

It just seemed the same as hellsing except the main character is some high school girl and not a insane bloodthirsty vamp. The plot might go a bit further or more interesting but, im probably not stick around to watch it. it just doesn't catch my eye.

I greatly dislike Vampire anime for some reason, probably because they all just seem like Vampire Hunter D to me, much like all vampire novels remind me of Dracula.

I initially passed up Hellsing years ago just because Alucard bore too much of a resemblance to D and I thusly assumed it was just a sub-standard ripoff.

I wasn't a fan of the original Blood anyway, so I had no interest in the series.

I just all-around was never into vampires, the only vampire related stuff I've ever enjoyed was Dracula (the 1931 film and the original novel) and, of course, Hellsing.

I'd say it's because too many vampire stories are either generic or utter rip-offs of Dracula.

Excessive violence is what makes me hate a lot of anime.

Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of the ol' ultraviolence (I love gore flicks and guro), but when brutal content is used to gloss over a dull plot or forgetable characters, it doesn't do anything for me.

Not to mention I dislike humorless violence, probably because real-life killings fucking terrify me. Bloodshedding is best when it's unrealstic, over-the-top and comical.

I'm not into the gory sex appeal either, partly because I don't like associating violence and sex at the same time. And no; violent sex is completely different.

Elfen Lied (probably my least favorite anime of all time) anyone?

And no; violent sex is completely different.

Oh, of course. The sexualization of violence and sexual violence are related topics, but not be that easily confused.

Further still, I also find real-life sexual violence to be utterly horrifying, so it's something that needs to have either an unrealistic element to it (like with the over-the-top artistic win that is guro) or demonizes the actions of the offender when it comes to it's portrayal in entertainment.

Can't wait 'til tomorrow night!

Both Jim and Shane (best/worst combination of houseguests ever) are crashing at my place and we'll have enough money to (as usual) buy an ungodly amount of movies, manga and other shit and then we'll spend a sleepless night enjoying our spoils.

So far Idefinitely plan on buying Serial Experiments Lain, and there's a good chance Shane may be bringing some Azumanga and other stuff.

Don't forget the alcohol... I got wasted for my last class of the week today... God do I ever hate Modern Literature.

Try getting drunk and then sitting through Lain... always a great trip lol

Trust me, if we watch Lain intoxicated, we'll at least watch it on shrooms or something.

Now that would be hilarious.

Don't get me started on high prices....I shelled out $68 for the first Hellsing OVA (got the limited edition) and despite all the awesome extra stuff, it's still only a 50 minute OVA.

50 minutes (no matter how fancy the metal case or included figurine) =/= worth almost $70

Also, I'd kill for some French-translated stuff now. I used to buy French manga way back when I was learning the language and now that I'm fully billingual, I'm dying for a reason to brush up on my listening skills. I'm excellent at speaking French and well-versed in writing it, but I have a hard time following native French speaker, they talk too damn fast.

We only get the most mainstream of mainstream manga, I'm talking strictly FMA, Naruto and Love Hina at most stores.

Fortunately, there's a great import shop with loads of cheap (and old) manga, as well as a few comic dealers.

A) You live on a crappy island

B) You shop at mainstream chain stores

even though i don't think there have an import store here where i live too.... sad.

Hahaha, we used to have a proper comic shop, too. But they switched up to a sportscards and toys dealer, then went out of business.

Now we've got Sydney Games (the import store, it was nameless until about a week ago, which stocks import toys, boardgames and a few DVDs) and my friend Adam's store Collectibles Guild (which specializes in very old comics and mint-in-the-box toys, but also sells damn near everything from vinyl records to porcelain dolls).

Other than those two, got to go to Musicworld (awful music stocks, but great selection of foreign films, plus great prices) or drive out of town to a few of the video boutiques (where hardcores go for their oldschool anime and gashapon fixes).

Does the fact that non-mainstream Anime goods don't sell well in your area be one factor why they don't stock it (and therefore no Anime-exclusive stores exist in said area)?

England has a few which I mentioned earlier, but such products are only among the western comics, and that the only 'manga' and 'anime which can be found there are either imported from America or poor quality DVD copies.

Well, at least you got the Gashapon; I collected the in-the-box kind and managed to get a full set of the Full Metal Panic Fumoffu Onsen series.

Pretty much.
According to store owners, they say that the demand for such has only increased about a year or two ago, which is why they cannot afford to make big investments in importing a wide range of lesser-heard-of series or small character goods.

During the time they were released (around March 2006), they also had the FMP girls with firearms boxed collection on sale (one random figure per box).

looks like only mainstream anime available to me, the only way to get lesser known show's but fantastic one's are only the online store's i suppose. can't be that bad, of course the waiting part sucks. not to mention shipping and handling.

I, living in New york half of the year and the bahamas the other half have a blessing and a curse. New york has lots of anime stores, hell even some by genre. The bahamas best source is waldenbooks:[.

Also, great idea for a video game. You play as Detective Conan. You find a murder and figure out the main suspect. You arrest him after some ranma 1/2 stlye fights. Then you play as naruhudo[or hobohudo] and have to prove your client innocent. After that as Naruhodo you have to maintain a girls-house and study hard so you can get into tokyo law. ;D
