*Typing from incomplete but sufficient experience*
At the time they were aired? Excellent.

And now? All-time classics. If I must describe it, it's simply the kind of show which is categorised as 'ageless', like good art.

This is a joke, right?

Both have been available dubbed since the early 90s, they are both amazing and both very popular.

You really need to brush up on your basic anime....

Slayers seemed corney for me.

I've heard of both, but I've never gotten a chance to watch it.

I never really watched anime that was too old. DBZ and YYH, and S-cry-ed are the oldest animes I watch.

S-cry-ed is a pretty good anime. short but good.

As advice for the future, try to veer away from one-liners, since most people will end up hating you for it.

BTW: Yeah....it is great....the dubbing is amazing too.

I have a question though, are all animes from mangas? Is that why they are animes? Why haven't I heard of good Japanese animes that had no manga, like Avatar:The Last Airbender (just japanese)

No, not all animes come from mangas, but most animes do. Sometimes mangas are created from animes, but that is rare. And Avatar is NOT an anime.

Avatar is fake anime made by americans, its not anime nor do i like people that try to make an anime thats not from japan.

Blood+ seems to be moving a little slow right now. When does it pick up?

Response to Anime Club 2007-03-11 21:07:48

Avatar is more of an eastern anime themed kid's cartoon.

Avatar isn't bad. And there is a difference between fake animes and anime-inspired shows. Teen Titans and Boondocks have anime inspirations in them. Some animes are also co-produced by American companies.

I don't see it as a show being bad because it being a Posime....either the show is good or bad.

Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days... Back on MapleStory and Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion... Even worse, i'm not about to post about anime... Sorry.
Anyone seen 300 yet?! I love that movie... Most of it wasn't filmed on set either. Just a green screen. A BIT more adult (blood and violence) for my age, but as if a 13 year old hasn't seen any worse.

Not all animations are derived from a serialised equivalent, such as the Yuushaoh GaoGaiGar Series (a canon side story in the form of a comic was made afterwards).

...I was talking more about Ranma 1/2. Also, one of my friends keeps telling me that YYH was just finished in like 2001 or somehting, but I don't believe him. DO you guys know when the actual manga was made, and how it dates compared to DBZ?

Also, to address the Avatar discussion:

I just call all stuff like Avatar and Teen Titans "American Anime" Since it's not real anime, but the characters and such are very anime-like.

The name of the series is spelled Yu Yu Hakusho in FUNimation's distribution of the anime, and YuYu Hakusho in the Viz manga. It originally aired on Japan's Fuji Television network from 1992 to 1995 [1], and was later brought over to the US by FUNimation in 2001. It was directed by Noriyuki Abe and co-produced by Fuji TV, Yomiko Advertising and Studio Pierrot. The show first aired on US TV on February 2002 on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Around March 2003, the show moved to Cartoon Network's Toonami block due to higher ratings with children.

DBZ was from 1989-1996 in Japan, 1996-2003 in the US, and showed on Cartoon Network in 2000.

Sadly no, because back in the day the series would have been butchered by censors and these days there'd be no real interest.

Damn mainstream kids need to learn to appreciate the classics.

You're going to Anime Punch? Frak! My mom limited me to one con a year, and I've already gone to Ohayocon 7. Maybe next time I'll go to Anime Punch 2008 instead (I can never find pocky or ramune at Ohayocon, anyway).

No, it does not matter.

That's the point of classics. It's the nostalgia of the animation and art style at that time which has made a landmark and milestone in the 'evolution' of the animation we love in general.

This brings a topic to mind...

What are your favorite scores of anime? I'm not talking about opening and closing themes. I mean the music that plays in various scenes in the series or movie itself.

Mine are those of Vampire Hunter D and Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma. This is just out of the scores I can recall. They have kind of a John Carpenter or Claudio Simonetti /the Goblins type of style as far as music, which I like.

I went to Ohayocon this year too ^^

I didn't dress up though... because I'm a poor bastard... and had to borrow money to get there anyway... (about a 3 hour drive too) We didn't get a hotel ^^. We got there Saturday, stayed up all night, and left at the end of the Con. I drove home... lol

I really loved Akira's score, great combination of tribal drumming and loud chanting. I've got the album and I listen to it constantly. I especially love how each piece of music was implemented in the film.

Hellsing (the TV series, not the OVAs) also had a wonderful score, the sombre piano pieces and loud 70s rock-esque tunes never seemed out of place.
