FREE HEALTH CARE!
Pretty much, we've also got a fairly inept government and really unpredictable weather.
Sydney is a great place for an otaku, because we've got a fair amount of good import shops and Island Anime, a group of hardcore otakus who regularly organize conventions and such.
I've been trying to get myself in on the fun, I know several of the higher-ups and I've been a regular at their events in the past two years. I was known as "the other Mugen" for awhile because at last summer's improv comedy/picnic day both I and the group's current leader dressed as Mugen, which was quite the laugh seeing as neither of us expected any Samurai Champloo cosplay (a friend of mine went as Jin, and unsurprisingly, there was another Jin).
I also got to appear in a documentary about otakudom last fall, I was given fifteen minutes of camera time (in costume, as Tetsuo) at a con to wax poetic about my favorite series (many whorish Urusei Yatsura plugs) and how being an otaku has changed my life.
