GTA4
Great. Both the moderators whos names begin with K's are going to be off the forums for a few months now thanks to Rockstar Games.
Finally got to explorting Alderney though. My progress hasn't exactly been spectacular through the game, but its been good enough to get at least two missions done a day.
Right Click Menus
I've yet to see anyone use it as part of thier game yet. What'd be so bad about an RTS where you right click a unit and it's commands are inside the context menu, just above Settings and About Flash Player, and if you don't click on a unit, it's the regular menu (with your website as an option, naturally)?
JMTB's job angst
J, I sit in front of a computer all day working in an antiquated language making applications that aren't fun to use and when they go up on the net have a billion amends come back about how the project sucked in the first place. Money aside, Flash Dev work can get a lot worse than making games - you could just be making UFA's like I do.
My bank account has a hole in it
So I'm saving up for an electronic drum kit.
At least, trying to. There's a good set of reasons to get V-Drums or a Roland / Yamaha kit - they can have headphones plugged in so they don't annoy the neighbours, they can pipe an mp3 player's sounds through the same architecture so I don't deafen the CD player I'm trying to follow, they come with a billion and one voices, and they'll make a good substitute for the rock band drums when they break a week after I get them when the game's released over here.
I've also got a motorcycle to buy. Because trying to walk everywhere is a pain. Both of them I think will set me back about seven hundred each.
But I can't actually physically save money. I get a grand something a month (two grand something if I was talking about dollars), but half that goes on rent, and the other half vanishes into the aether on other hobbies and creature comforts. My savings account is a joke as well, since getting money transfered out of it takes all of half a second of logging into my e-banking program.
Anyone got a decent method of saving money, or should I just learn the art of self control and aestheticism and do without things like XBoxes, geeky miniatures and take out food?
Maybe I should just make a game with Kirk or Moose or Delta and get it sponsored for lots of moneys and take the lions share of the ad revenue...

non flash eras
Is there anybody else in here that has had times in his life that he didn't have anytime for flash? Geez i don't even have time to draw, and i love drawing.

You're progress hasn't been great and your in ALDERNEY? That sounds pretty far to me, I'm 20 hours into the game already and I'm still only in Algonquin....well about 4 of those hours were spent just building up my like and respect levels with Brucie and LJ. How is it?
always behind schedule.

I was addressing the issue of parents who have stigmas about video games, not hating my job (I love my job).
Whenever someone asks my mom what I do for a living she tells people I am an animator, and she has done it in front of me several times. For some unknown reason video games were deemed bad in my household. We had an intellivision and a Nintendo, and both consoles were constantly collecting dust because I was basically never allowed to touch them. I was slapped with 30 minute time limits to play any computer, console or anything. I used to wake up at 3 am in the morning so that I could squeeze a few extra minutes into my day to play the Nintendo.
Hi there!

Conair: 45% so far.
Slight Spoilers. Nothing plot and nothing not already known, but some confirmations if you can put two and two together...
Alderney isn't as much fun as Algonquin imho. But that just might be the combination of the obvious difficulty increase doing new jobs for the Pegorino Italian mob and the final member of the McLeary family (god... you do missions for EVERYONE in that family... >.<) and the fact that the height of the game is finding yourself driving the wrong way down the one way street in Manhattan after raiding a bank, and not much tops that.
I haven't spent as much time faffing about with the game as I should have. So none of the dating missions (bar Kate and Michelle), only a few of the races, and I tend to ignore the requests of the five or six people who keep ringing me asking to go binge drinking. I do the occasional 'randomly bumping into people' missions when I see em though. And so far I don't think I've killed anyone when the plot gives me the choice in the matter... so we'll see how that ending goes.

Saving Money
If it's hard to save money Luis has the right idea. I used to spend money easily, mostly on eating out. So I opened a bank account that saves out 5% every month, and that's been working out. I also set up my credit card so that it rounds off the change and dumps it into the savings account (for example, I spend $2.75 and it puts a quarter into savings).
Hi there!
Weaknessss
I was thinking about this just now, what would you say are some of your weaknesses? I'm weak in math for instance. In regards to flash I think that I could work on being more aggressive about bending and distorting characters.... i was watching pico's reloaded a few mins ago and the animation is minimalist but like each frame of pico's face and actions are like perfectly chosen. I think that i just get paranoid that by distorting or exaggerating a figure it might look like i dont know what im doing.. so ya.
I used to be really weak at making sprites for flash games, it really is a different way of animating.
ng rumble still annoys me at how complicated nene is built. It was very unefficient and i spent way too long on it. Now I can punch out sprites and release a game with BoM in a matter of weeks.

Weaknesses
In academics, I procrastinate... FAR too much. I'm also terrible at anything that even slightly resembles essay writing, god knows how i got an A at history GCSE, its the reason i didn't take it for Alevel i love history, but not the goddamn essays.
I'm weak at game design, and making practical uses for things most of the time in my programming adventures.
I'm too shy, god knows how people have patience with me sometimes, it took a good couple of months before i got past my shyness to go the next step and ask my current girlfriend out lol.
I have a pretty bad memory for some things, mainly words. I always like to talk very precisely and i'll often forget the word i want to use, and then just leave my sentence hanging as i try to remember it, and end up drifting off and not finishing what i was saying.
My handwriting is also terrible, something i have to be careful about in exams etc.
ehm... I'm a sucker for arguments, i just get drawn into them and exasperate them most of the time.
anyone want to add?
Weakness
I'm really bad at math. I failed Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry in high school. I had Graves disease throughout high school so I had it bad for about three years, and missed a lot of that math. Flash programming has allowed me to go back and learn a lot of it though, but I still feel behind.

This game looks dope. Seems like it'll be a pretty slick first-person parkour game.
Its alright. Would be alot better in third-person as you can really see what the character is doing and would most likely look 100x better. Although saying that, I don't think they'd be totally happy if I was to tell them I was doing freelance work etc, when I'm 20odd.
Weakness'
Well it depends in what sense you're talking about. Educationally, I fail at art and the alike subjects. I can draw, to an extent, it just takes me 10x longer to draw something to a reasonable standard, which means if I was to animate an animation would take a hell of a lot longer.
When it comes to flash, sometimes I'm too picky and lack motivation. I will think of an idea and commence work on it and then decide its not original enough and give up. Or I will just do the harder stuff and then get bored when it comes to easier bits of code or even level design.
Emotionally, I care too much (No I'm not gay. It probably comes from my best friends being female. Or maybe thats why they're female. Who knows.). But even if I hate someone and someone is mean to them or something like that I feel guilty/mean for no real reason.
Weaknesses
I don't try hard if I don't care about something
Also, I care a little too much about what people think of me (Although I've been working on fixing that this year, loosening up and stuff)
Also I tend to be unusually cynical with my thoughts sometimes. Everything can go wrong so why count on it to be right, plan for the worst and hope for the best. It's probably not the best way to think.
The best way to break shyness is to talk to people you don't know. You do it all the time on the internet, and it's not that different in real life.
If you don't know them and you sit next to them in a class at school or whatever, just talk to them. They won't find you weird for doing so, cause that's what most people do in class instead of paying attention.
Once you do that enough then you won't be shy anymore.
And another thing is find a way to potentially humiliate yourself in a public setting surrounded by friends and strangers. People won't find you stupid, they'll acknowledge your guts.
weaknesses
My biggest weakness is that except in break dance and other physical stuff i am lazy as hell. I am really good at math and stuff but my grades are so low...Also in flash and stuff i have a great idea, I am capable of animating it, but i just give up..
I am not really shy i feel weird when i talk to girls but i do that all the time and i have a lot of female friends..

I love the bit of voice acting in it. Some parts had really cheap animation :(
Weaknesses
I have a shit work ethic. One day I'll be "Yarrrrr!!! WORK! WORK! MUST WORK!" while others it's "Meh, screw it.". I get unmotivated very easily and motivated not so easily. Most of the time I think 'bout what my friends and family would think of the flash I'm working on and tend to forget that the majority of the poeple seeing it are 13-18+ year olds.
I got shit planning too yet I feel that I'm really improving in that feild.
I hate math even though I'm good at it. I use to do real good in math and then when they said that they were putting me in the advance math classes (called math principles or somethin') I said striaght out "Fuck that shit!". I'm "good" at it, but hate it with a passion. Numbers, calculations, formulas. etc. All of it is a huge pain in my ass. I'm happy I choose Essentials Math (retard math class)... even though I'm now denied a bunch of college/uni courses for not having a higher level of math.
Basically what I'm gettin' at with the whole math thing. Is that if I don't like something I will take the easiest and laziest most efficeint way to get-her-done.
I'm also a terrible speller.
Strengths!
This is a more positive topic! ^^
I know a lot 'bout life. I've dealt with plenty of hardships and experinced many things. Most poeple that have lived through stuff I have are either really screwed up, in jail, in an insane asylum, dead, or living a broken life.
I've lived both the rich life of having a large house with 5+ bedrooms, 2 floors, and over $400,000 worth of land/furniture and etc. I've experinced the poor life of living in a small townhouse with mold on walls, drunkin' indianes outside, little food for months, and etc. Then finally I've experince and am still experince the standard life of living in a small yet acceptable 2 bedroom house with crackheads wonderin' the streets at night, gunshots from 3 houses down waking me up, and etc.
Fun fact! The house I am living in right now was a formor crackhouse - I'm not just calling it that too! Mother and me spoke to the neighbores.
Anyway bottum line. I may not seem it (I no that for a fact :P), but I've dealt with and seen a lot and am pretty mature for my age when compared to the average kid on the block. I've been told for the last 4 years that I have an "old soul".
Opinions!
For fun and an ego boost, state a random yet positive opinion 'bout a fellow reg!
Luis - your like the ultimate cool baby sitter who buys the kids beer!
jmtb02 - your a nice guy and make poeple feel good about themselfves.
Bezman - your just really cool and I enjoy your reviews.
