Whats the safe fish list anyway... i love seafood i'd eat the whole ocean if i could.. but out of curiousity i want to know what safe fish are.

I was going to ask where you could see this 'safe' fish list but I forgot to. Do it.

Kind of related I'm about to watch 'Blood, sweat and t-shirts' - a documentary about a bunch of brits who like fashion who are taken to Indian to work in all the different factorys to see the conditions.

Seafood Watch Guide

There's always a few surprises on there... for example Shrimp is on the bad list because they drag nets across the bottom of the ocean killing everything.

They also have printable guides that fold up into a wallet that is regional to your area.

Anyone who claims to have 'proved' something is clearly not a reliable source.

Long-term climate shifts are an uncertain issue - no decent scientist would claim to have 100% certainty for one possibility of the other.

"I call it the Burns Omni-net!" (I figured the quote fits, as bad as it is.)

Xeptic, if you're talking about the 'Planet Earth' series of movies, my brother has the whole set on blu-ray. I've watched some of it, and it is actually stunning to watch. Lots of cool stuff out there.

errr i knew this would bring out people who would barge in with their theories on the o-zone.. WHO CARES. I was merely just asking if you do anything for the environment.. if you dont then you dont.

If you dont believe in the whole earth day, fine move along... its just a simple question geared towards those who do... its not supposed to open this whole bag of worms about people for or against anything. sheesh

That's indeed what I was talking about. There's a movie which is basically a 'best of' compilation of the series Planet Earth. It's pretty mindblowing in HD.

In my personal opinion, even if you feel that global warming is a theory you should still try to reduce carbon dioxide emissions etc as ultimately its still a major problem. As well as the fact that soon enough our supplys of fossil fuels will run out.

Although there are equally pressing issues such as increasing demand for food etc.

Should read 'proved something so variable by its nature'.

Anyway, global warming may not be certain, but considering its destructive nature even a 50/50 chance for its occurance is grossly unacceptable (and I believe general scientific opinion puts man-made global warming at around 90% possibility.

I appreciate why people get annoyed by the issue - all that stuff about 'carbon footprints' annoys me too, not to mention how everything's supposed to be 'green' - isn't that homonym crowded enough already? The worst part is how politicians manipulate the issue - I think I saw something a while ago about the UK government supporting some airline thing or other which would cause massive emissions, but be outside the categories forf our 'targets' for some reason and therefore not count.

Anyway, I can give three reasons why everyone should go along with reducing greenhouse gas emissions:

o We're going to have to get off of fossil fuels sooner or later - Between all the debate about climate change, everyone seems to have forgotten that non-renewable energy sources run out of their own accord. We already get a huge proportion of our oil from unstable regions run by the sort of despots who we really shouldn't be relying on, not to mention the super-rich corporations in general. Things are only going to get worse as supply starts to fall below demmand - considering the resources we've got available to us at the moment, it's a bit selfish to shift the responsibility of converting to a future generation.

o Everyone has much more motivation to deny global warming than support it - Global warming is bad for everyone. For a scientist, demonstrating beyond reasonable doubt that it wasn't occurring would bring massive fame and respect, and for everyone else it'd be nice and reassuring. Even despite that, the majority of qualified scientists confirm there to be almost certain man-made global warming occuring.

o The people hit worst are in a bad situation to begin with - We already do too little to help the poverty-stricken countries of the world - inflicting massive drought and famine on them is something everyone should lose sleep over.

Also cocks.

Actually, the greenhouse effect and the concern about the ozone layer are two totally seperate issues. The greenhouse effect concerns light being emitted from the earth's surface not having the right wavelengths to pass through the atmosphere, and so being reflected back on us, causing warming.

The ozone layer being worn away has the opposite effect - ultraviolet light from the sun is no longer reflected back into space, and so can reach us and cause cancer and such.

They told me about this at Oxford :P

There are still many other things that should take priority OVER the not-sure-if-its-real global warming. If Global warming were not real, at least theres a good reason (aside of the many bad ones) they're making it up... if we continue consuming at this rate we will get to a point of no return where it would be hard to get natural resources such as plants and water, and thus we would live in a desolated planet where we wouldnt only pay for our stuff but kill for it too... so if this global warming thing is being made up at least we would get to throw less carbon emissions to the atmosphere which means we would consume less energy which means more stuff without being consumed.

So what we REALLY need to worry about is less consuming, less shopping, less trashing, and less babies :) and of course, restoring forests and animals, and if you're planning on getting to a new place to live, make it an appartment, that way it wouldnt need more extra land to fill with concrete :)

Delta

Sorry to hear about the friend. Getting hit by a car is pretty scary shit. This isn't nearly as bad, but I remember about two or three years ago on Rosh Hashana right after I left temple, some crazy lady busted through the Starbucks window which I was standing outside of. Luckily I was about two feet from the center and was only thrown back...but my whole central area was one big scrape basically, and I had trouble getting even outside where there were cars for a few weeks.

I bike/bus everywhere so that's good I suppose. The only pain is I have to take folded boxes sometimes to certain nearby recycling containers at my work. Those containers are a ten minute walk away and I have to carry 50 boxes >:(

But all for the environment eh?
especially since where I work is a health and natural foods store :P

House is one of mine. It's just a great show. Others I catch regularly are Lost and Prison Break. I'll also watch The O.C. when it's on. I thought it was a stupid preppy teen drama before I watched it, and while it is drama, it's funny and very entertaining, and definitely not what I thought.

Scrubs, defiantly. I love scrubs, because somehow they can pack depressing and funny/happy all in one episode...The jokes are good, Dr. Cox is awesome, and overall its just a great show.

Fukcing great show. One more season left i believe.

I for one am addicted to Arrested Development. So hard to get into. Way to many inside jokes and ones which require you to actually "know" the character. But shit, once you do, its amazing.

Yayyy. I've been at a Flash festival the last few days. It's been pretty cool. Adobe were surprisingly stingy, offering only free food at their afterparty. Smaller companies like MediaTemple had open bar. That's where the goddamn party was. Double mixed drinks every 20 minutes for free. Was in goddamn hog heaven. More motivation for you kids to sneak into the industry. DO IT UP.

Someone asked about the aquarium so I put together a small album of how it's been coming along. Not much of the reef is developed yet but a few corals have been planted.

Hoh-hoh, I thought I was the only one who liked that show.
Mrs. Featherbottom, the Banana Stand, the Cornballer, Franklin the puppet... good times, good times. Though, yes, it was difficult to get into the show at first.

Aquarium

Looking very cool. My sister had a big aquarium set up a while back (before her blue lobster Pinchy died, unfortunately), but it was fresh water. Salt water seems like higher maintenance, but the fish seem so much more colourful and vibrant. Not to mention there's some weird and cool looking things you can get for salt-water tanks, not just 'tetra' this, or 'cichlid' that.

I myself have settled with birds, which I don't mind at all.
