St Patricks Day
Happy St. Patricks Day! Anyone drinking Guinness tonight? I'm not! Guinness in the States tastes bad unless it's on tap, and by golly Southern California is about a billion miles from Ireland.
Hi there!
HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

Hi there!
St. Patrick's Day
Happy drinking day to all of you. Did Guinness end up passing it as a national holiday?
MY E-PENIS IS BIGGER THAN YOURS

...and this is my fag...
No Guiness for me tonight. In fact i've got no cans or bottles or anything.
Just a wine rack full of a lot of drinks that definatley aren't wine. They look so nice though, i'd hate to ruin the pattern drinking them :P
It's Monday as well, so i'll just have one.
"Wards best bitter, a fine preimium ale". Anyone ever tried it?
St Patricks Day
Think I'm gonna have to skip this one... probably met my alcohol quota for the rest of the month over the past weekend.
People In Charge...
I hate it when people in charge of shit don't know the first thing about what they're in charge of. For example, trying to get a job as a programmer, a lot of recruiters aren't that sharp on every single position.
Aren't recruiters usually a 3rd party? Or are you talking about the people creating the actual job posting?
for whatever reason these jobs presume that a piece of paper from a university makes someone more competant.
You don't agree with this? Not even a little bit? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that a BS automatically means you're competent, but it's a hell of a great filter. Think about it. If you were the one doing the hiring, and you had 100 applications, and 10 of the applicants were degreed, who would YOU interview? The 90 that didn't go to school? Personally I would MAYBE take a chance on a few of those people if they had relevant work experience and an amazing portfolio to show--as in "I didn't get a degree, but look how much more amazing progress I've made in those 4 years". But it better be an AMAZING portfolio. Many companies expect a degree AND impressive portfolio...
Lots of times, though, I think resumes are scanned by some HR person and weeded out if they don't match the job requirements. This is also why you'll see stuff like "5+ years of professional C++ development needed". Really? Five? Four and a half just won't cut it? It's just some random criteria used to thin out the pack.
It's situations like these that are frustrating, knowing that someone who isn't as qualified as me will be seen in the same light as me because they have a BS. IMO, having your A+ should be proof enough that you can work a hardware position.
What makes you more qualified than some random person with a BS? And how can you go on this rant about how "just because you have a degree doesn't mean you're competent" and then follow it up with "A+ should be proof enough that you can work in a hardware position"? At my current job, I interviewed a lot of people to work in our IS department. A few of them had certifications like this. I definitely moved them to the top of the interview queue, but they didn't necessarily make the cut in the end.
We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality.

Slightly different but I had a problem like this when I was looking at some colleges. The computing/ICT teachers at a few of them seemed to know nothing about it apart from the basics so it was left to me to try and find out the information myself. Obviously, this put me right off that college. But thankfully, a college, that I had an interview with the other day, is specialist in Computing and Maths - which happen to be my main 2 subjects :)
But like I said, slightly different and pointless story ;)
St. Patrick's Day
Hopefully I taste a bit of alcohol tonight. Unfortunately, I'm dealing a lot with this right now...so my Black Label will be bitter-sweet (I don't have the money for fucking Guiness)

Flash is a village within the Staffordshire Moorlands, England, and the Peak District National Park. At 463 metres (1,519 ft) above sea level, Flash is the highest village in Great Britain.
So not only is it safe from global warming, it's got a name we can all agree is fucking awesome

Any Suggestions on my progess for this Segment of a flash?

Hey! Don't rip Dartmoor..
Re:Interview - uni stuff etc
I applied to Bournemouth uni J1mp. Would you mind telling what it's like in this thread?
I have an interview at Falmouth tomorrow for their animation course. I've been told Falmouth is good but I don't think i'll go there. Apparently, if you come from a small town like I do, it's very simillar to what you already know. It may be better for me to go off to a big city uni instead.
I visited Goldsmith's the other day. It was full of Indie-c*nts which I didnt like. It seemed like a place with a good ideal though.
From my experience. Bournemouth is fucking awesome. My course, Interactive Media, is perfect, its a real mix of web design, media skills and animation and all my units so far have been awesome.
Bournemouth as a place is n amazing place to live, theres a lot of very good clubs and nights out and plus there is the beach which is good for the summer. Skin Boarding <3
but yeah even anyone wants to know more PM me! im fucing drunk and am going to bed,.

Speaking of Unis, I got an open day at Durham today. Anyone know what it's like over there?
People In Charge...
To clarify my rant earlier, what I was saying was having a BS with nothing else is not proof enough that someone is competant. Having a BS as a requirement I understand is a way of filtering people, but you also run the risk of filtering people who are more qualified but never put their focus on school.
The example with the A+ is not the case with me. It was an example I was trying to make and was supposed to be taken at face value. What I'm trying to get at is the Computer field is not so easily partitioned by those with degrees and those without. In my opinion anyone with experience and certification is more qualified than someone with just a BS.
What makes me mad is that people overlook this and quickly assume that because it is applicable in almost every other field, a BS degree is always best.
Old men and cars
Just finished one of my lessons for proper motorbike, on my way home on moped, get to a rounadabout, slow as i see a bus coming - knowing bus drivers i stop to let it come out, about 5 seconds later i get hit in the back by an old man in a car, whos excuse was that he did see me, but then got distracted watching a swan...

Granted you still have the ability to string together logical sentences on the forum, but is everything alright with you? Is your moped damaged?

how can they mention this 'kongregate' site above newgrounds for allowing people to upload thier own creations?!? lol

I think it's probably because Kong is soley a games site while a much larger percentage of Newgrounds submissions are movies.
Kong is a great site.
Now that I think of it, does anyone actually know the precentage of games compared to movies on Newgrounds? It would be interesting to see, I think.

Wow thats basically an exact hybrid of the youtube layout with the newgrounds concept. It'll probably be a big site
Kongregate and other clone sites
Interesting you bring that site up, i was talking to a random person on AIM last night and they were asking why do i have such a die hard devotion to Newgrounds when theres other sites i could expand my 'e-fame' in.. ie kongregate etc. Well the truth is that most of the flash sites nowadays (including Kong) wouldnt exist if it werent for the angel investors who got it going like overnight.. it wasnt a kid in his basement with a dream... it was an angel investor who bought a front of the line pass. To me newgrounds represents the entrepeneural spirit. It gives starving artists the hope that they can persue their dreams and grow into something..
Its a bit different to persue your dream rather than finding the dream that will make you the most money. Meh
Anywho another appeal of NG is that if this site fell apart one day Tom can still go down into the trenches and actionscript with the best of em. Theres just something special about someone who can not only take a leadership role but go out and slug it out in the battlefield.

£96.37, he's too cheap to settle it without going through insurance, blah.
Kongregate
I know it's oh-so-easy to hate the well-off, but I think Kong is doing a pretty cool thing. Calling them a clone site is pretty bogus, particularly when they've brought a good handful of new ideas to the table, or at the very least were the first noteworthy ones to pull it off well. Newgrounds was the first and it'll always be home base for me, but it's so goddamn xenophobic to dismiss every other Flash site on the internet.
At 3/18/08 01:55 PM, NegativeONE wrote:Kongregate
I agree kongregate, to me, is defenatly not a clone site by far, its much different to all the the other portal sites. There's a lot of original features on the site:
1. Weekly Card Challenge: Score an achievement or a challenge in a specific game/games to earn a card game for there upcoming mmo card game.
2. In game chat: a chat box next to the game your playing makes it easier to talk to people making kong's community that much closer.
3. Achievements/badges: Something to do or achieve while playing a game makes playing games that much more "do-able" and gives an avid player a challenge or something to do!
These are some of the decent things going down in kong and thats what makes it my second visted site on the internet, i think anyway.. lol
Sorry if it sounds like im advertising, i just really like the idea.
