Even if a game sponsorship nets you $10000 (A HUGE overestimate), it's pocket chance compared to multimillion dollar profits of commercial games.

Yes yes. Small fish, big pond, big deal...
But then again there are products like Adventure Quest and Dofus setting a trend thats undeniably going to catch on...

But when you consider the amount of hours you need to put into making a decent flash game compared with console games, and the number of resources and people needed, Flash is much more profitable. A Flash game that one person has worked on for 20 hours might get $500 sponsorship - $25 an hour - when console games have hundreds of people working full time for years. I don't think Flash will ever offer a more satisfying gameplay experience than console games though.

Thats not entirely true. 10k is not unrealistic anymore in todays market... some sponsors have a line of buy-outs that arent highly publicized where in return for exclusivity for a set period you bank more .... anywhere from 10-80k ...
Also, its only pocket change if your game is one of the flagship franchises like a Gears of War or Smash Bros or something ... as an independent developer / game company.. you have the cards stacked against you... you have the royalties to pay to microsoft / sony/ whatever... like 60/40 .. 70/30 or something blatantly unfavorable... then you have to allocate your budget to pay for microsofts beta team to rip apart your game and approve it or send it back for another round... and a bunch of other costs you absorb associated with making a console game... in the end, you MIGHT make a profit but youre not necessarily swimming in millions like you think.... I remember having a conversation about this with Tom some time ago regarding Alien Hominid... the game did pretty well but him and the behemoth arent out driving Ferraris....
Oh yeah im back.

You have good and bad in either medium - I wouldn't really rule out a completely awesome Flash game coming out to totally destroy whatever consoles have going.

I am now extremely inclined to do that.
But I probably won't because I can't be assed making another cafepress account...

The biggest advantage in my opinion in making flash games/animations is that you have full control. You develop the product exactly how you want it to be. When you work for a big company, you are almost always occupied with 1 task, like coding, making models, the design etc. I would be bored as hell if all i ever did was making character animations all day while my creative input is reduced to 0%.

I agree.... I also think that Flash gives hope and embraces raw talent more so than the console scene. You can have a great idea and make great things with the right drive and effort. You are only limited by how far you push yourself. That is a really motivating thing to the people out there who have great ideas and have great raw talent yet arent necessarily molded by years of disney or some big name institution. You can have your little piece of the pie without having to feed off of the bloodlines of established schools and brands.
Thats not to say i think you people should pass on college. I think knowledge is power and if you have the opportunity to add to it you definately should.

Indeed
I also agree.
There are almost no limits with flash (I say almost because there are a few limits, like massive 3D games) and it can open the mind to something that you won't find anywhere else. It lets you see all aspects of creating rather than just one you would find in a big business. If you honestly hate something about a game or movie, you can change it without hesitation, wheras in a company, you would end up stuck with it.
I think it is a great way to release talent and build it up to become something immense. A great starting point for a larger carreer. For example, before I got flash, I knew I wanted to go into game developing, but not which part of it. Now I found out that I am really strong on the programming front, so I would love to go into game programming. I love the challenges you get when something goes wrong, and the fact you have to work out what is wrong and how to fix it. Sure, it can be a real headache sometimes, but the satisfaction when you finish something and it is acknowledged is so great. You can just sit there and think: "I did that." And it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
I love flash.

Stickers
While we are on the subject of stickers, here's a fun little street-art project anybody can do. If you register as a small business on UPS.com (which is free, btw) you can actually request shipments of free items from boxes to packaging stickers. It's super quick to sign up, and easy as hell to get a ton of free stuff. I recently got a pack of 100 4.24" by 5.5" stickers that are completely white and super durable (as to not come off packing boxes). Basically, I draw whatever I want on them and stick them up all over Philadelphia. It was completely free, super easy to make, and relatively safe (It's a lot quicker to put your name up as a sticker rather than spraypainting it).
The only real difficult thing you have to worry about is getting materials that are permanent and won't fade so easily in the sun...but even that's not that hard. Plus, with these stickers you can combine them to make even BIGGER stickers for more elaborate pieces.
If you are at all interested in doing anything like this, it's by far the cheapest and most accessible means of "gettin up".
You can also get free stickers from Postal Stores too, but those have that blue bar on them (Ones in the picture).

I went sticker slapping around W-Port :P
We had a similar discussion over at Camp North.
For my sticker paper, I just got these big white labels from staples and I draw on them. I can also use them in my printer, so that's a plus. They're probably not as weather-durable as the postal ones though...
