I would disagree. Just as people will only produce Flash for money, people are only going to do it for the glam as well.
Hi there!
HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

Hi there!
Yeah, for some people are awards, reviews and money motivation. I don't think there's a lot of people making movies and games only for themself, we all like getting complements or something else as a reward.

I can understand about the money, but surely anyone who's good enough to get awards wouldn't care about them so much that they purely make a flash to get an award.

I completely agree with that, i also think perhaps it is unfair? Good quality flashes might not get an award where as some fad might get a flash an award.

it isn't fair, but that's the way it is. People milk out the potential of a series, and the fanbase ALWAYS votes 5 or 4 on the flash, just to see it do good, while it might not be all that good. I do it too; I know if the super flash bros submit something I'd vote 5 on it automatically because I'm a fan and the Decline series got me into flash.
It's how it is, thats why some gems (as Tom Fulp said) go unnoticed.
With awards, if you've worked really hard on a flash and don't get an award or front page than your flash just fades away into the portal without the reckognition. I really would've liked some reckognition for Triforce Keep Up.
So bringing up the point of how ridiculous this Christmas is going to be for video game consoles, I have found it staggering that PS3's are now selling on Ebay for nearly $1700 dollars. I mean, Sony can now be pleased with their console being able to sell out so quickly, but really, what developer wants to produce for a platform that no one has?
As developers yourselves, what message does this send to you? If you had the opportunity to develop for PS3 games to make money, would you? Or do you think it wouldn't be worth it given the numbers that will be out next year?
Hi there!
Well after the big christmas rush, and when the PS3's price goes down a bit, I think it would be worth developing games for it, heck even at the rush. However at the rush you'd want to make a game thats really big, so its one of the games everyone buys.

heh, i honestly wouldn't. I don't see the PS3 as being a big success. The bluray thing sounds neat, but in reality i think it will fail just like UMD's did. I'd rather be creative and make a wii game :P
Say who here (americans) is in the national honor society? I'm applying for it this year and i have to write an essay where i basically brag about my accomplishments :D. I'm ablut halfway through page 3 right now and nowhere near done. It's fun! Cause i get to brag. Intelligently.

I actually just got my acceptance letter yesterday. I guess there is something appealing about a student who has a 4.0 GPA, well over 100 hours of community service in the last year, plays in one of the best bands in the state, is also taking classes at the college and is overall divine in the eyes of every teacher they have ever had.

I once got a 95 on a chemistry test...

It's pretty frustrating aswell. Most of people's aims are the frontpage or an award, mine's an award. Heroes Of The Lost Valley was close to getting one, but someone submitted two movies at around 11:30 pm of the previous day, so they carried on... and i ended up in SEVENTH.
Grr. I was SO frustrated.
I want to make some sort of game but I don't know much about actionscript. I'd learn it, but i'm kinda busy at the moment. I don't know if anyone would be willing to do the AS part though. They'd probably be busy too.

Yeah, I was at the Sony store during lunch today thinking about just that. I actually figured out how I can get one after the Ubernerds satisfy all their preorders and allow stores to actually stock them for normal people who want 'em too. Half cash, half credit... but then decided against it. I'd rather wait till Sony gets done with its quality test on the public and fixes all the problems that they're going to have shortly after release. I have the first gen of the Motorola SLVR and it's bug city, going to have to ask for a new one in the hopes that it's more stable.
But anyway, yeah, it's absolutely insane. People (including myself) are going to be paying $600 for a video game console. Holy shit!
... but really, what developer wants to produce for a platform that no one has?
I don't know about that... I think a lot of people are going to buy the PS3. Sony's been doing a pretty good job over the years of retaining more of a mature demographic who're much more likely to have the disposable income necessary for a $600 waste of time. Granted, November 11 (or whenever it is) is going to be a huge gamble for Sony, but I'm pretty sure they've done their homework and know exactly what they're doing.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather not sit by the water cooler talking to the guys about playing with my Wii...
On a different note, I've been doing a lot of driving around the city for work lately, and I think I'm coming to a scientific conclusion about something, and that is:
I swear to god, no one with a trendy car (PT Cruiser, new Beetle, etc.) can dive for shit. Seriously! My hypothesis is surprisingly consistant. Every one of them seems to have a dumbass behind the wheel. Anybody else notice this? I'd be curious to hear about it. =p
I'm probably never going to get any of the next-gen consoles.

I know for a fact I'm getting the Wii, I've made it my life's mission.
Just kidding.
But I can't imagine all the fun I won't have without the Wii :(
Say who here (americans) is in the national honor society?
I was in the National JUNIORS honor society.... lol

That's the real question right there. I hope it does... unfortunately, we've already demonstrated in the past that people prefer what's easy and already out there as oppose to what's actually better (Betamax vs. VHS)
Still, given that Sony also produces a huge amount of media players (CD, DVD, BluRay), I don't see the new format becoming much of a problem for them as far as people having something to play them on goes.

the reason Beta did so bad was because they did not alow companys to use the format, while VHS left it as open source, allowing more content for it.
Sony's had a bad record of media formats.
Failures
Minidisc
Betamax
Memory Stick
Sony DD Sound
Multimedia Compact Disc
Super Audio CD
Sony PSP (I argue it's failed)
Hi there!

I would agree with all that you listed except that. I mean they sold like hotcakes. Even I bought one and I'm not that in to video juegos.

he's talking about the movie format. UMD did fail pretty bad.
and as far as the system itself, i also believe it was failure city. But, thats just me. UMD is like...fact. Company dont make them anymore, at least not to the point of when it first came out.
Errrrr, Last time I checked PSP was doing amazing. But soon to be replaced by the PS3 according to G4--the best T.v. chanel EVER--Adam Sessler says it's worth the money. So i'll take his word and buy one.

I concur. But the blu-ray disks are/were a good idea. They will easily replace DVDs within a matter of years. But like the wise ones always say, You learn from your mistakes.... sometimes.

huh? ok, i agree that the PSP was not a total failure, just slightly. and i agree that the PS3 is not going to do horrible. BUT!!! i DONT think that blue-ray will be a big thing in the next few years. first of all, its not the only format being released. second of all, i dont think it will be that fast of a switch, because DVD and blue-ray are just to much alike. I mean, look how different DVD and VHS is. It took like 5 years to switch (approximation).
