Lol there are tons of anime in that page :P
But yeah annyway they are not all pokemon crapp for kids that brainwash them to become chinees. They are a source of a very good art even though sometime the animation isn't that great.
For the Hentai... i say that what's the big deal with that? I mean... Some people are not at ease with that but acting like you said is just blocked minded or narrow minded. Its an art... Evrything is an art cause no one do the same thing the same way. So yeah its an art.

Literature

NextToNothing, I went on a trip in school to Stratford to see The Tempest on stage. It definitely would've helped if I had read it first, but it was good nonetheless.

delta, on the Dark Tower series ending, my sister said you'll pretty much get it and like it, or hate it and think it's stupid. I should keep reading it because it just started getting really weird at the part I was at (ie. giant bear and whatnot).

As for other books/plays, I read Hamlet in school, so for my major assignment in grade 12, I read the book Gertrude and Claudius, which took place before the events in Hamlet. Holy shit was that a meh book. There was seriously a run-on sentence over a page long. Also, there were 3 acts in the book, and in every act, the character's names changed. The content and premise was interesting, but the way it was written was blah.

Reads
Candide is an amazing book, incredibly dark. The author makes sure everything that could ever possibly go wrong in a book does. Plus it's an old translation, so it makes you feel intellectual. Best 110 pages you can read.

Anime Question

I've never been a fan of anime but since there are people here who are I've always wanted to ask, what is considered bad anime anyway? How can you tell its bad... i always found anime annoying cause i cant take it seriously.. itll be like a tense moment and this gigantic sweat drop will pop in to the characters forehead or like the lip synching is two mouth movements..
however im not sure wether that is considered bad anime though... like maybe those things that annoy are what is typical of the anime style? Like for instance baroque art is very elaborate and gaudy.. and while i dont particularly care for it its like a calling card of the art style/movement so you sort of have to respect it.. so i was always curious from an anime enthusiast standpoint whats the 101 on the whole anime thing??? THIS IS FOR SERIOUS.

To make up for my last post, heres a story of what happened to me today. Listen to this:

Crazy Fat Year 7 Glasses-Wearing White Boys are Rubbish at Death Threats

You read it right.

So I was at the bus stop with my friend Matt, standing by the door of a nursin agency. Some fat little rat-like boy (dude in title thing), was standing about 5 meters to our left. He sneaked really slowly up to the nursing places door, pushed it open, then ran away to where he was before. He did this about 4 or 5 times. We laughed at him, as you would. He then stared at us, then looked away.

He then walked about the bus stop, making stabbing actions with a pen he was holding, mumbling 'I'm going to stab every Harris Tech [incorrect name of my school]' over and over. Matt laughed at him, openly. He came right up to him, and said 'dont look at me'. He was at least 8 inches shorter than us. Matt said 'okay...' and smirked. Fat boy then lent over and looked at my badge on my blazer, and mumbled 'harris tech... I'm going to kill you.' He then badly pretended that he was going to throw his pen at me. We laughed at him, and he walked off.

The bus came, and nothing intresting happened there. When I got off my stop, so did he. He said 'I'm still going to slit your throat! I live down this road!', and followed me up the road. I told him that he was crazy. I was ahead of him. He then turned around and ran down the road, and hid behind a hedge, (he ran like a spaztic). He kept poking his head out, and putting it back in when I looked at him. Then I went into my house.

</story>
Sorry, I had to.

Code Tags: Stop

We're now on the third page of people using code tags for pointless purposes, jmtb said to stop and actually i think it should stop at this point too.. bans served with a smile from here on out.

You had your fun, funtime over. No using code tags unless you are doing something useful with em.

Where's my :P face. I was just joking because Luis's previous post was no more code tags. I know it was a serious suggestion, and I think it was seriously silly.

Untitled Project, aka Hierarchy
Idea
Simple, create a game that allows users to control all portions of a society/societies.
Medium
Massive Multiplayer Online Adventure Role Playing Game
Features
o Full control over your character's decisions and actions
o Full access to complete Hierarchy, as well as ability to create your own
---o Go from Peasant to Patrician, farmer to general, heretic to despot
o Take advantage, for the first time, the true essence that originally motivated the MMO
o Customize your characters appearance, personality, and if you're influencial enough, his home and the people he surrounds himself with
Gameplay
Create a player according to your specifications. Build his history from a wide array of options. As you play, you'll be tasked to different minigames, with enemies of the more obvious ghoulies, to the most subtle ambitiuos politicians. You start your life at the very basic. During character creation you can pay your way into school and jump straight into a career, you can apprentice to learn a trade(s), or you could even start off as an eager farmer's son looking for big adventures. Combat, and by extension, character growth, is as ambigous as gameplay. Each unique class and life station offers it's own challenges. A miner would have mulitple minigames to contend with to find and mine their ores, as well as stave off enemies such as bats, and other more esoteric creatures. For another example, a politician would have to make the right friends, show the right face in public, and understand the political playing field. Each user who plays as a politician will have a bank of ideas and propositions to put forth based on their personality.

An idea i'm playing with. What do you think.

Anime Question

Well, that really depends on taste. Generally, most people accept Inuyasha as a shitty anime, for example. It was canceled mid season. For an anime to be considered "bad", it usually falls under these catagories:

- Horrible animation (does not include OLD anime, unless it really is just shitty beyond excuse)
- Completely shit story
- Any combination of reasons why you wouldn't like a Flash

How can you tell its bad... i always found anime annoying cause i cant take it seriously.. itll be like a tense moment and this gigantic sweat drop will pop in to the characters forehead or like the lip synching is two mouth movements..

Okay, first, the lip syncing is just the way it is. Sometimes, it fits the Japanese, but do you complain when the same thing is done for a Flash submission? I have seen a lot of animes where they have the full mouth movements and facial features. As for the reasons you find anime annoying, try watching some different series. Pokemon and shit like that is geared towards kids. It's stupid humour that they love. Try something like Akagi or Death Note if you want some serious and intellectual shit, School Days if you want some depressing drama (that's what I just finished), and Afro Samurai and Eureka 7 are good action animes. If you like humour with a slight hint of blue to it, check out Air Gear or Cowboy Bebop.

however im not sure wether that is considered bad anime though... like maybe those things that annoy are what is typical of the anime style?

It's all opinion. I loved pokemon as a kid, but now I think it's complete shit. It's just to taste, like some people don't like horror movies.

Hopefully I answered your questions well enough. For you, I could recommend a few, like I'd say Air Gear (fluid animation, great humour, decent story, and an original idea), Afro Samurai (A decent American Anime, Samuel L. Jackson does almost all the voices, unique animation style, fluid, and bloody, and short [about 5 episodes]), Death Note (somewhat of a psychological thriller, interesting plot line, great character development, original idea), Golden Boy (older, anime, but great animation, great humor, short series [6 episodes], but it does have some "sterotypical anime faces" while having a unique style), Ghost in the Shell (Smart, philosophical, great 3D work, an anime for intellegent people who like to think, much like Donnie Darko level of thought), and perhaps Elfen Leid (cute anime girls, lots of violence, some sexual humour, and some freaky-ass characters. The first 7 minutes is a solid bloodfest). Hellsing (It's not some cutesy shit, it's violent, it has vampires, and it has humor while balancing action and character development [14 episodes], plus it's one anime I would recommend to watch in English [I think it's the only one I would do that for!])

Things I would not recommend for you, Luis: ANY NARUTO EPISODES (Regardless of how well-done the fighting is), Tokyo Mew Mew (Too cutesy for you), Today In Class 5-2 (It's kinda Loli, plus it's got those stereotypes you hate), Inuyasha (It's gay, just forget about it), Dragonball (any of them, they all suck and they have the stereotypes you hate), Negima (You'd hate it, way cute), One Peice (Gay, stereotypical, geared towards kids), Tsubasa Chronicles (stereotypes, blah blah blah), Full Metal Panic! (Holy shit steretypes out the ass), Angelic Layer (Funny, but not for you), and DearS/Chobits (Cutesy love anime. not for you either).

Things you might like but I'm not sure: FLCL (Cliched anime, but it's decent and short [6 Episodes]), Akira (Movie, it's considered a classic, but it's kinda like a Tron-esque old anime. It is one of the first ones translated to English though and it was a spearhead of anime coming to america), Bleach (decent animation and blood, but gay concept and way too much filler), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Good animation, kinda got some loli, a bit of sexual humor and it has only a few sterotypes. It's only 6 episodes, minus the extras), Miyazaki films (very unique stories, amazing art, but might not be your taste), D.Grey-Man (Good animation, decent humor, deals with exorcists and demons, but it's really long [42 episodes and still going]), Darker Than BLACK (Smooth animation, good story, a bit vague at times, and lacks some character development [not finished, it's at about 20 episodes], good soundtrack), and Ergo Proxy (a futuristic I-Robot like thriller, an amazingly unique style, [22 episodes], nice character development, but it gets a bit sketchy towards the end and is hard to follow).

We'll make a believer out of you yet, Luis!

Also, Tom, that list you pointed to, was shitty. He was completely biased and missed a lot of great ones while saying some of the great ones were shit, and some of the shit ones were great. You can't have a list like that unless you work with an actual group from all around the world to reach a general consensus and get an accurate view. Most anime is decent, just not all of it. Don't go by his list. It was gay. What I gave Luis was what I have seen and what I think he might like.

Hannibal

Anthony Hopkins is an amazing actor, but the books are much better. I mentioned Thomas Harris last page, and he's the guy who wrote them.

Something cool

http://www.phidgets.com/

So like a while ago I was researching stuff for my science fair project this year (honor students are forced to do it) and I came across this little nifty website.
http://www.phidgets.com/

They sell some USB controlled motors and sensors and stuff for fairly cheap. Anyway what caught my eye about this was that they offered an API for AS3 (in addition to ones like vbasic, java, c++, c, c#, etc). It seems like a neat idea to control a robot from flash, dontcha think?

Kyzer Sosay! I know, my friend was bugging me to see it for ages. I finally gave in when I spotted it on Kirk's faves list haha. I would've seen it sooner if I knew Kevin Spacey was in it. He was great in American Beauty.

I'll check out that other one some time...

RE: Anime

Why does everyone like it so much? This japanese comic stuff really pisses me off, whenever I'm watching Robot Chicken or something else on Adult Swim, these dumb oriental shows come on!

I mean, I respect the complexity of the art and how difficult it can be to animate it, but how can people enjoy watching it just for fun's sake? Don't get all angry, just please explain what you all find so great about it.

People feel more cultured if they watch foreign shows, and since Japan is generally regarded as a cool country, some people will embrace anything that comes from it.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of animes. I like comedy a lot more than serious stuff, but I have watched animes in the past, just like any other show. What pisses me off about "anime fans" is that they watch EVERY anime that is ever produced, and regard it as the best thing ever. It's a genre, I don't care if you like a specific anime, but to praise each and every single one that comes out is just absurd.

I can never separate him from the character in my head because he's the perfect actor for the part. I saw him in MI:3 (awful movie) a couple months ago, and I was like, "Watch out Tom Cruise, he'll eat you!" I've never read the books, but I've heard that they're great - much more detailed with all the gore, etc.

Have you seen the movies that don't have him? Red Dragon is actually a remake of an old Michael Mann film called Manhunter, which is completely unrelated the rest of the series, it's just based on the same book. I haven't actually seen it yet, but it's supposed to be good. Just recently they made another one that tells the story of his childhood. It got awful reviews, but I thought it was brilliant.

Re: Anime

When I was a lil' kid we got nothin' but the anime channels so I grew up with anime. I never really enjoyed any American 'toons. I go through phases when I might find an anime I really like and watch a season or two of it on voeh/youtube in a week or so. I don't go around watching any anime I can get my hands on though. I watchanime because some of the stories really get to me. I've cried to a few dramas and romances, and laughed my ass of at the comedies and horrors. The animation I find pretty too. Some shows I hate, some I like, it all depends on the story, art, audio, etc. Hentai I watch for the same reasons. I rarely fap to it. I like the animation and stories to some. Porn always amuses me. :P

But yeah, as stated previously, anime is just a genru. Their's still reality shows, gameshows, soup apraws, etc. etc. I never watch TV now though. I cut my cable to afford my interwebs. When I watch somethin' it's from a website usually. Though I perfer NG's 'toons/games over any anime/hentai. :)
