HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

I sense an absence of social life here ;). Congrats!
Also, tommorow I'm starting university, I'm actually looking forward to it, I think I'll enjoy the independence. I've skipped school for a year so I'm up for a new challenge.
Also, 750th page.

That's a good question, I don't know what it's called in English. If you translate it literally, it would be information Science, does that sound familiar? It's in Utrecht, the largest university in the Netherlands, but I guess that probably won't ring a bell. What are you studying?

Yeah a little, we have Information Technology and Computer science over here. I'm guessing your course is computer related?
What are you studying?
Multimedia Technology And Design. Bit of a long title but it's an ace course, HTML, CSS, C, Java, Javascript, Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop last year. C#, Maya, more Flash and Photoshop and audio/video editing/DVD authoring this year. Next year is spent in industry and then I come back to do my final year project.

GCSE's
This is for anyone doing gcses next year, or anyone that's done it. What are/have you doing for your GCSE's? (Sorry non brits, i don't know what tests you have :S).
I'm doing CiDA (Certificate in digital applications), Art+Design, German and History. I've heard german is shite, but i'd rather do that then french :P.
I got a C minus in Geometry :/
Names (taken)
I was pretty sure that you weren't able to use the same name as another flash game or movie, but does anyone know any way of making it so that if the name of a game was taken, you would be able to also take it, like some way of getting them to change it haha. I don't wanna like pay someone, but I was just wondering if I had a name for my game, if I should change it if theres another flash with the same name. I don't want it to be like Whatever: Game. And whatever isn't the name haha.

There are tons of ways around it, it's just thinking of one that fits you're game.
Language Classes
Even in High School German's really freaking hard. I don't know what teacher told you it was an easy language, but verb forms and nouns and Masculine and Feminine and.... ew....
Needless to say, I switched into Spanish.
I've gone and become an SSBB addict... what to do, what to do...

God that's such a great major. It's like saying, "Fuck it! We'll make you good at everything graphics-related on the computer just in case you change your mind". Sucks to the people who take Bioengineering and suddenly realize they want to train dolphins to jump through hoops.
Hi there!
Multimedia
At 9/2/07 01:04 PM, BritishMoose wrote: Did you have to buy all the programs or did the university provide them?
A bit of both. I already had Flash and Dreamweaver, the Java program we used (BlueJ) was freeware, but they did provided us with some MS software, like Visual Studio, so we could code C. We could/can also download other MS products for free (including Vista and Office 2007).
Does the flash segment include animating? Is the animation aspect based on quality of art?
It did, but they only wanted very basic stuff (luckily for me!). The art quality didn't factor in to the Flash module, as it was a group project. The people who are good are art did the art work, another group did the sound etc. Since I had previous Flash experience I led the Storyboard and Animatic group (and ended making the whole animatic by myself!). Once we had all the art and sounds, we just had to put them together.
Did you learn lots of AS?
Not really. The first year is really about introducing everyone one to the programs. We didn't do anything more advanced than loadMovie() The AS we do this year should more advanced. We did a lot more work with C and Java. Our final C project was to write a program for converting Roman Numerals.
We do 3D animation this year and in the final year. For a final year project a couple of 2005 students made 3D animations that were a couple of minutes long. Also I know that my department offers Masters in Computer Animation.
Sorry for the questions, but I was really interested in doing something like that at Uni .
It's a good course, it's sort of a cross between Computer Science and Basic Animation, with a dash of web desgin thrown in for good measure. I think either HappySheep and JPI(or both?) are doing either animation courses or something along thoses lines, if you wanna talk to them.

Pretty much all the names I choose are taken. I usually add a period at the end and no one notices.

Dolphin trainers need to be qualified in Psychology, apparently. Unless the Seaworld people are also trained in lying.

It involves a little of both. It has bits of organization, psychology, technology, IT and programming. It's basically a study for people who don't exactly know what they want to do :). First I was thinking of doing a (multimedia)design course, but that's not a university based study over here (not that I know of anyway). I guess in the end you have to compromise between what you really want to do and what'll pay off more when you're looking for a job. I had many, many sleepless nights trying to decide what study I wanted to take.

Haha my course is like that. There's so many different things I could go on to specialise with this degree.

Nah, I didn't need any specific experience for this course, which was handy because the experience I did have was all sell taught.

College
What college do you go to Kirk? The thing you're doing sounds like a dream to me :P. hat qualifications do you get at the end? A programming degree or a design degree or what?
Anyway, your one lucky bastard ;).
At 9/2/07 03:42 PM, Depredation wrote: What college do you go to Kirk?
I go to Kent Uni, at the end of it all I get a BSc in Multimedia Tech & Design. I'm may stay on and do a Masters degree after that, but if I do, I'll be 24 when I final graduate.

I don't know whether the system in the UK is the same as it is here, but I think it'll probably pay off to do a masters as well won't it? A guy I work with couldn't find a job because he chose not to do a master after he finished his bachelor, although I guess that depends on the study you've done. Got any idea what you're doing after this, job-wise?
At 9/2/07 04:35 PM, Xeptic wrote: Got any idea what you're doing after this, job-wise?
None whatsoever. I work next year though, as part of my course, so it should give my some ideas on what I want to do with the rest of my life. I wouldn't mind being a Lecturer, but only because I like the idea of only working 28 weeks a year.
O noes :(
In the morning I'm having my first day back at school (yr10). Another year with my 'lovely' Spanish teacher *cough*. Am I the only Secondary Schooler going back tomorrow?

BP, I'm going into freshman year on thursday. Any advice?

I'm already back, and it's great XD I have a class in digital graphic design.
Chainmail letters in flash reviews?
How did this start. I know it's nothing to stress over but why would people who register at newgrounds review movies with this garbage. And if it isn't enough that they spread this crap here, they give the movies 0 in review score as well.

We don't have to buy any programs. My department has 3 computer labs (around about 150 machines in total, all with 19 inch monitors) that has Maya, Flash, Photoshop etc all installed. My PC is fairly old now, doubt it could run Maya anyway! We've also got the fastest internet connection on campus, and only we can use it! And while I'm bragging, my department texts me my timetable every morning, free of charge. While everyone else struggles to remember where they have to be, I get daily reminders.

05, I think. I'm not sure to be honest. I've not used Visual Studio since early May, when Classes finished.

Oh right, I remember you said this before you left last year for uni.
That's probably the biggest problem I have with my current computer. It can't handle Maya that well, and it's a laptop so the screen is tiny. The processor is incredibly slow with rendering 3D work.
I'll probably move up to something with a quad core, 24-30 inch monitor, an insane gfx card...those sort of things. It's overkill, I know, I just need something that can handle my work for a change.

Actually, I believe they are hacking into unused accounts, because the signup dates range from last week, to 3 or 4 years ago. I flagged pretty much all of the dumb reviews that were in the top 50. About 50 or so.
