Has anyone here been to any animation festivals?... Today I met the guy that did all Weebl and Bob and we had speakers that do a load of UK adverts and other industry people.

I've met Weebl at the Gosh Small Comic and Web Comic convention. I tried to hit him over the head with a poster in revenge for Badger being stuck in a permanent loop in my head

Any comments or comparable experiences?

Okay people. The international festival for Animation and Computer Games is being held at the University of Teesside again next year. Animex2007 will be taking place between February 5th and February 9th around the North East of England. They've currently confirmed getting Phil Co from Valve, and freelancer extraordinare Ken Wong for Animex Game. They're still confirming the rest of the speakers though (I'm hoping they get Kieren Gillen and Introversion back though).

Is a good festival. Normally there are animations being shown all over the area, and there's at least three events you can drop along to to namedrop and chat with the leaders of the industry (there was one of the directors from Klaspy Scupo last year at the "black tie" style event). I had fun last year, even if it was a bit of a reality check.

No idea how you'd get somewhere to stay around Boro in the middle of February. I'm only going again because I *think* I'll be able to crash around friend's houses and dorm rooms from University.

I hear Frosted muffins got his name for a reason. The reason is he likes Frosted muffins like Roody likes his guitar.

Note: Roody puts his balls in his guitar.

the quality is fine, the lines are due to it not being embedded. When it is it will be the right size and it looks sexchasy

Yes, I do. Blueprints are available at a number of locations, and are very hard to find on google. SMCars has a lot of good blueprints, check the forums.
I just noticed this site while browsing google, no idea if it's any good yet.
Onno Van Braam used to have blueprints, dunno if they still do

Although I wish we already had a car modeling tutorial on my maya (and other graphcis applications) teaching website, we don't, but Digital Tutors does. Unfortunately, it's a DVD that costs money, and it's for maya, not max, but the thing is that the main part of what it's teaching you is the technique on how to approach modeling a car.
So you could probably take the techniques they're using and apply them to max.

For modeling the interior, no idea. Good luck on that, I've never tried to jump that hurdle.

No more animated sigs. :(

Glaiel, you should have the Gecko option out for different characters, like the lead guy in Super soldier, lead in Aqua slug etc.

It came up a few days (and robably many pages) ago about Flash-game genres. What would you say are some game genres? How do you classify them etc. Video games are still quite recent themselves, and net games of course even more so, so it's hard to say. Also they're all being catagorized by past games they're based on and console genres, so it's a bit of a mix.

Same with flash toons. It's not all the same shit as holywood or TV. One that sticks out on NG is NG-sitcoms for me (The SFB video game ones, tomorrow nobodies etc). I'll think about it more in a bit.

Here i've just been reading about genres. I have to write an assignment on film genres (i've chosen crime and specifically scorsese). I've just opened that page but your bound to learn something.

Oh those are easy... everyone categorises games into certain genres. Because the audience constantly demands new spin on games, crossover exists all the time, but people will still describe games as "a Third Person Action-Adventure Freeform with Driving and RPG Elements" or "a Cinematic Action-Adventure focussing on Stealth tactics" or "a Turn Based Strategy Game with Tiles and advantages and disadvantages relating to your choice of Commander"

A shiny penny [not a real penny] to the one who posts what games I just described.

People categorise because it helps them find patterns. And games like patterns. There are endless spins and variations, but clear lists have emerged and most game magazines and companies DO shepherd these games into genres to help describe them to a public who may get confused by cryptic game speak

Hmm true. There surely must be more to catagorizing games. Film is classified by the narrative, mood etc. Games open up a whole new element because you interact with them, which is pretty much what your post came down to.

Actually, just thinking about that maybe the narrative doesn't take such an imortant role when classifying games. For example you wouldn't describe GTA as a 'crime-third person shooter' because the 'third person shooter part is the most important. Maybe this is an opening for newer games, to look at other media genre classifications and judge from them.

What about flash games though? There aren't as many openings for Third person games etc. Time is more important because of the whole coffee break element of flash games, limited controls maybe class the game as being more difficult etc. Thinking..
