I'll hit you up on AIM later Luis.
Old School animating and Reg collab
I've always wanted to animate like this... the feel of pen in paper is way better than.. the feel of flash.. but i always fill my notebooks with random drawings nad have no empty pages for animation.. the more i have done are those in which you draw a character in a pose on one page, in another in the other, flip it and it moves..theyre cool and can turn very creative >.<, manage of all details without time/frames pressure.. and comics.. a lot of comics, but they aren't animation...
I always thought the reg collab was going ot be a game involving art and code (is programing an art?) from all the regs.. well, i came late to know exactly what you've been planning, i guess ill go and look at the first pages someday, and a collab of paper made shorts.. wasn't the post-it note collab something like that?.. well, if the collab was made in white paper, by hand, it would be awesome, only the coloring would be a problem... but well, i know i could make something that'd look cooler than in flash.. *sigh*

Yes it is, I mean you can script but a really good script will always be elegant. Or rather Elegant scripts always work better :P I don't know anymore... I should be studying for my end of semester exams.
my 999th post
yay!! its my 999 post! which is way cooler than 1000 or 998.. XD

Hooray! That's a familiar face I've missed :D
Temp leave
Yeah, I've been a little less active recently. I started playing a game called Mu Gods and now I'm addicted.
They also have a really good site design.
REG COLLAB
Hey, I noticed talk about a Reg collab (again). I missed the start of the topic, so I may be a little behind here, but I just had a pretty awesome idea which could work out quite well.
Okay, one of the big problems with reg collabs seems to be (as far as I'm aware - if there's been a big, awesome collab in my absence feel free to call me an idiot) that there's generally a need for cohesion which is difficult to pull off with a large number of not-entirely-committed people, especially when both animators and scripters are involved.
So - here's what I'm thinking... What if we did it so it was sort of a story about some big event on Newgrounds (I dunno, maybe Tom Flup getting assassinated or something). Only, you go around after getting stories from the points of view of all the different regs. It'd be like Rashomon, except with games and regs :P
The advantage of this would be that the point of view aspect would mean that there would be no disadvantage whatsoever to having totally conflicting styles - if anything it'd be truer to the idea that way. The POV story of some big artist, for example, could be thing great stylised, animated fight scene, whereas someone else could have a short RPG type adventure, and someone else could do something incredibly twisted and surreal. Conflict of styles would, in this case, be a real advantage :D
I'm thinking that the main screen could be like walking around talking to regs, so the levels could be played in any order. You could get a speech bubble or something, saying 'listen to xxx's story?' and then it goes to the flashback and the individual segment. The segments would only have to be loosely true to the plot, too, since they're the indvidual recollections of borderline autistics and sociopaths :P
Anyway, what doe you guys think of this idea?
Paranoia's Idea
Tis not a bad idea, I like, that way I could just animate something myself and it wouldn't clash with say a short game or with Luis' style.

dont try and stick up for it cause you know the show is absolute rubbish and for little kids.
well duh
Reg collab
i'd do it if i had flash 9 :)
have a set story in whch people do each part... kind alike the valentine massacure thing but with games inbetween each section ( cuz not all regs can animate ;)).
but hey, if i gte flash 9 <10> some dya i'll host the collab and you cna all shut up about luis leading us...
oh, reg collab would most likly take a good few months or years to finish..
Flash 9
I'm pretty sure we can compensate for the LOSERS who haven't got Flash C3 yet between backwards exporting and junk :) I don't think many old scripters are AS3 gods yet or anything anyway.
Reg collab
I think John is heading up that project so direct all inquiries and questions to him. Spoke to him last night on AIM and he wanted to manage it and well he p managed large projects before so i think hes fit for it.
SNUFFED
Im kind of annoyed at the moment, i was pretty sure it would happen but im annoyed still nonetheless. So the honeymoon art contest winners were announced and i didnt even get a mention, heard that the reason for it was because my drawing would start drama again.. but fuck that people cant take a jab sometime?? I find it fun and friendly to take jabs at AG.. does the whole world have to like them no.. i dont see that as reason to try and hide the fact tthat theres people like me out there.. im annoyed at tom.

The Collab
Really liking Paranoia's idea. Perhaps though if you're still stuck on the previous one, the story depictions can be in individial styles (the animations), and then the games will have their own unique genre's but with the pen&paper animation style, as well as the main screen.
Also, to spice things up I think something should be within each Regulars' contributions that adds to the whole picture, so that by the end of it you have an understanding of the true story. Which of course would force users to see every one if they want the whole experience.
well doen
10. ArthurGhostly - I just love how he captured our excitement.
he won a sticker and a tshirt.. yey
post naked with the prizes when u get them.

Collab
I was kinda thinking that you could have one final level which would be, say, Tom Flup's POV and give the real story, and all the others could be ridiculously biased and stylised. Like for Lulu's POV you could have him going around destroying the bad guys with arms the size of tree-trunks (which would be funnier considering the normal depiction of himself), and for Glaiel's POV you could have him getting phone calls to the effect that Newgrounds needs his help because he's the only one awesome enough to save them (not that I'm saying GG's egocentric, only to find out in a different one that his phone's been disconnected for over a year and he stumbled into whatever's going on totally by accident :P
I'm still just shooting ideas around here. We really need to get a decent idea of what everyone thinks.
Reg Collab
So i was thinking about it, and i am recalling the success of Mindchambers Red Baron which was sort of a reg collab of his own forum. It was a polished great little game even thought it was a mishmash of very random spritesets. I think that wouldnt be a bad approach, like to have people contribute to the game but not have theircontributions be so dependent on them that its a showstopper if you get people that flake out.. With alot of people in a project its only natural that people will crap out of it so its important that whatever the project is, its something that is flexible to that.
Still cant get this stupid honeymoon contest out of my mind, but something that might be cool is a brawler where you can play as tom or april, or do a 2 player and play as both, im thinking something like the Simpsons arcade, where you can team up and shit.. thatd be hilarious.
Weave some sort of story out of it with Tom taking back his portal or something or other.. thinking out loud here.

R.C.
True enough. I was under the impression it was going to be set in an adventure/mystery game, where you roam around a certain area interacting with the Regulars. These interactions will allow you to learn their piece of the story and it'll all form one big story. The trick about it is you have to seperate fact from fiction. For example, your piece might include you stumbling upon bandits and you kill them all and continue on your way. A valuable clue from that could be the presence of bandits, or even your whereabouts, but the part about you destroying them could be the fabricated piece. But then it could also vary if it's done in a plausible way, ie. theres only 2 bandits and you defeat them both taking on severe wounds and practically crawling to the nearest town.
It doesn't have to be an actual puzzle though it could be something entirely different so what I'm thinking might be a bit off. I do like the interacting with the regs part though and they each have their own piece in their own style which would suit things. Makes sense, an actual story though needs to be worked out.
RC
I'm with you about the bandits bit, but trying to make something complicated yet still understandable like that is pretty difficult, and like Luis said you have to allow for people dropping out. That's why I liked the Rashomon idea - the individual segments would tell you more about the characters than what actually happened, and mainly serve to mislead you. The actual story could just be conveyed as a final bit once you'd completed all or a certain number of the mini-POV bits.
And, like I said, I still think it's probably the best way we can hope to weave fluidly together a lot of completely contrasting styles of both game and animation, without having to rely on people who may well bail out to link them all. All you need is one transition from the main screen to the flashback and you could just dive straight in such and such a person's world, with their own artistic style.

Now that is a great idea.
Well you are a londoner, so being clever comes naturally.
Reg collab
well if it's a game.. we could have each aniamtor draw a sheet for a chcaracter/object/background and have the AS'rs make a code for the game
have a selection of different styles of gameply (like Domo-Kun Angry Smashfest!)
big quesiton is, would we have a seperae thread for this collab!?
and who will we let in ( some nonregs post here remeber...)
or will we just have this whole thing orgonised on msn/pm?
At 6/5/07 11:49 AM, Lord-Sonx wrote: or will we just have this whole thing orgonised on msn/pm?
To hard to organise with so many people. I think it would be an idea to make a thread either here, or on another forum and just say whos in and who isn't at the start.
I'd like to make a sprite sheet, but i don't really have much time to code at the moment, sorry :(.

Then don't complain when I outperform you with third the code with a functional language.
but dont worry, i mean look at C++, thats been around since the 80's, its still the major language used now.
By nerds. I hate it.

The new F# (sig) is to C# as OCaml is to C++. By which I mean if you like smaller program codes which do as much as more straightforward procedural ones (unlike Mr.Deltapants here) the functional ones will suit your needs much better for lots of time.
I ignored the next three pages currently.
ah crap :(
spent ages copying ans pasting frames in a flash to coincide with a sfx in a tune..
after i had done i.. i saved.. then relsied that i forgot to fill in the frames completely.. so now i have to redaw the frames and copy and paste all over again..
rargh.
