..::monthly voting::..

How do you people (the eligible ones) feel about the monthly voting?

The first few months, I took the time to watch every damn flash and I found some real gems, but it was mostly a huge waste of time and energy.

After awhile I stopped voting altogether, it was too much of a pain in the ass to be subjective when picking ten out of about 150 or so Flash movies and games. I didn't want to be someone who overlooked some unknown masterpiece out of all the Flash, so I abstained.

This month I did the lazy thing and and mostly voted on stuff that I knew already, I watched a few new Flash, but I didn't come anywhere near watching all of them. I only participated because someone asked me to vote on their submitions.

So is it right to only vote on what you already know or do you think that that's being unfair to the little guy who made an awe inspiring flash that just happened to float under the radar?

I basically vote whenever I have something nominated (or if someone asks me to)

Which was pretty much every month for a while. Then it stopped being so, and now because I don't watch as much stuff anymore I only vote once in a while

just got a pm from JMTB02 about this... appaerntly the post was removed becasue i used a word that lead him to ignore the whole post.. which was somehwat strange...

Anyway, here's the psot that was my 8k..

Ed Edd and Edward

nice game, ran so utterly slow over hee though, kinda ruined it :(

Sinclair ZX Spectrum

ok god, nice use for the visualsation ability in flash. the game itself was a little odd, ended up with a score of minus 200k+ lol... bit hard to see the red and green dots... ah well.. it was good.. basicly a collect the dots falling fromt he sky game.. with music..

also ran slow here >:(

Monthly voting

i've done my voting, by time i got to the end of the list i had 2 spaces free.. not that much to vote on this month >:(

IP BAN!

It seems my ip has managed to fall into the Emule ipblocklist.. which is odd since i don't even use that program.. but whats annoying is that photobucket, imageshack, denvish and a few other sites now won't connect when i try to go there..

though *Word Removed* still works fine..... i acutlly checked th elsit and it has my ip under some boston company......

this sucks balls.. no denish = no uploads, no photobucket = no sarai pix :'(

fuck you internets... my ip will change in a few days anyway....

good thing newgrounds has a custom made ipblocklist (?)

disclaimer: Filesharing programs are legal, filesharing is not. donwlaoding files withthese programs legaly is LEGAL..

time for tea :D

spectrum
I liked the backgrounds effects and how they make you focus on them. It's a very good challenge.
But when i tried to put a song from a website it gave me errors, no mater what song i tried to put on the game. I tried with several songs from different websites, but any of them worked :(
Any way to make it work?

edward
I loved the graphic style and the amount of detail in it. It ran smoothly all the time.
I didn't get any glitches so it made a very enjoyable experience.
Also, the little cutscenes were very well done.
Definately, one of the bests platformers on Newgrounds.

I I dont normally get the chance to vote, is it most active or something? How does it work, i got to vote this month.. Is that because of retro collab getting an award?

It's the 2,000 people who have the highest experience AND are active depositors.

RE: Monthly Voting

Im in the same boat as BlackmarketKraig. Tryed watching them all the first time i got the chance to vote, but its a waste of time. Then i just voted on ones that i have seen, and eventually stopped because its the most biased voting system ever concieved. How can i vote for the top 10 of 30 when i have only seen 8 of them?

I say lower ther number of submissions eligable for voting. But thats just me.

awesome, I'm the godfather of my friends nonexistant lovechild...

AS3/flash9 = Cheating?

So in flash 9 you cna now do all these net effects and filters and partcile effects with code, back in the day we'd have tons of layers and fbf for all this..

so is replacing animated efects with AS effects a good thing?

AS3ing it is probably harder than animating it

Re: Monthly Voting

Haha last month was the first time I got to vote, but this month I guess I wasn't too active so I lost the priviledge.

I agree the amount to pick through is way too big.
It should just be like all the daily 1st, and any flash that won a weekly award.

AS3 != Cheating

See the nerdish joke i did there ;). Anywhoo, AS3, and CS3, just like any program still take skill to master and to use properly, if the author over uses teh filters, he will still get the same score for his movie if he didn't use them.

Also, AS3, whilst some won't agree, is still a hard language to master, theres no way of going about it, some people just use it for stop();, play();, etc, and some make games and other more substantial things. None of it's cheating, it just depends on what you want to with it.

A lot has Changed...

In the week i've been gone. No new layout yet, but games/moves like spectrum (First full as3 game i've played) , Newgrounds Rumble and Edward have been released. 3 pretty damn amazing, ground braking (For Flashj) games. I@ll review them all shortly ;).

Also, congrats on the game TD and Buzzwerd, it is truly a flash masterpiece :).

Because it rocks so very much. Its taken flash platformers to a new level, it is very much something i would pay to play on a gameboy or something like that.

Exactly the same as you from the sounds of it. I took ages to look through everything in month 1 and voted as best I could. Haven't voted since, though I'm eligible. A couple of times, I started in an attempt to look through everything but as the voting period sorta ends at unannounced times (rather than, say, midnight NG time after exactly 7 days) and I had a few things I hadn't looked at, I didn't vote. Like yourself, I wonder slightly about what's the best move...

Why/when do you watch/play flash?

Recently (in any case) I've found that I definitely benefit more from watching a cartoon episode off a DVD rather than browsing the 'web if I want to relax and recharge.

Just wondering how/when you guys watch flash animations/play flash games. Like, do you come home, put on the computer and go, "I wonder what new flash has popped up in the portal"? Any specific time you watch/play? Why choose NG over consoles/DVDs?

Influx of awesome games

Where were these a couple of months ago? And how do those of you who're studying have time to finish NG projects?

Haven't played Edward, though I'm sure I'll love it. Had a single go of NG Rumbleville and I know I could play it for hours if I let myself.

RE: Influx of good games

This is no different than the influx of crappy movies/games.. NG has these waves of productivity.. i think right now just happens to be a hot time to be a game dev. Usually summer months produce good things alot of people have free time and such.

Sorry for the plug but for anyone interested in learning more about NG Rumble goto the link on my sig... i spent a sunny afternoon typing it up today i may as well get one clickthrough.

I like the summer month too for flash, and september because those who spent the whole summer on a nice flash submit in september. I would really like to do something for christmas this year, but I'm really trying to quit ASing and making my own games, so I couldn't make a game...

Do you guys do seasonal flash?

Do you guys like making seasonal flash like for christmas, halloween, valentines, clock day (lol).. etc.

Whoa its me!

I Need Opinions
http://denvish.net/ulf/010607/72429_rhythm.ph p

This is my next rhythm game (going to be so much better than spectrum, cause this one isn't as experimental and is done in AS2 which I'm used to)

So anyway first, Bomtoons hasn't given me sprites for a few of the snakes yet so they'll use the default yellow color for now. Yes it will look wierd. Second, this is only a test song and won't be in the final game. Oh and arrow keys to set the mallet, and press A to hit the mallet (hold it down for snakes)

So the opinions:

1. The difficulty. Is it too hard or is it just hard enough that you get the hang of it after a couple tries? (getting the hang of it does not mean doing perfect)

2. Does the flashing help or hurt?

3. Do you notice any lag (if enemies don't flash, there's a little bit of lag)

4. How is it so far?

Your help is appreciated :D

That's stupid as you'll just be rewarding flash that's already been awarded.

True.
Also some of the best flash wouldn't be in that mash.
Marc M doesn't get half of the awards he deserves.

Re: Rythm Game
That one's alot better! That one is pretty cool, I think it's a little hard with all the multiple directions coming at once. It's an amazing innovative take on the whole typing arrows rythm game thing though, I do have to commend you on that.

The game I'm making with a friend is about...halfway done. He is actually sync'ing up the songs well so it should be fun. Just in case you were curious :P

First Movie You Ever Saw On NG

Back in the day, I remember my first movie clearly:

Ass 'N Titties by Ronnie (Two-Scoops)

I feel a bit old, revealing how long I've been on NG (even if it was illegal), but I even though I originally signed up in 2004, I didn't get active until the begining of '05 and I got serious in the Summer of '05 also.

I also find it funny that I yell at kids for being like "omfg I'm 12 and I'm a bad-ass because I'm underage lol. Please be nice, it's my first movie.", but I did wait until I was 13 to sign up. :C

Then I remembered the site and came eventually to watch stuff.. then i came more cause i wanted to learn flash (which i didn't have)... until i signed up and started depositing and stuff...

First ever movie I saw on ng

First ever movie i saw was scrotum the puppy.. and i was so like shocked with how rediculous and violent it was and it was life changing cause i was like damn i want to make something violent and contraversial too! and so l looked into downloaded flash and produced perverto... its somewhat pathetic now that i look back on how far along the internet has come where scrotum the puppy is very tame compared to whats out nowadays. I remember shit like Jesus Fighter and Street Life and thinking damn these guys are pushing the edge....

If you say thatthe good old days were when Tom was still in Perkasie and NewGrounds was a NeoGeo comic site, then I was 5.

If you mean the begining of the Flash site, then I was 9.

Regardless, I've been around for the existance of Newgrounds, and I will hopefully be around for it's further evolution.

God the layout is so sexy :3
