So tonight I got the award for my Flash class. Lol, I put no effort into that class.

Oh noes too many collabs in teh forum! We've established that, a while ago, move on! Wow peeps doing collabs, let em do their collabs if it fails and you weren't in it, its not your problem.

Flashing at school

Were finally starting flash in communications (best for last) and I've already finished everything assigned! Stupid shape tween excersises! I said to the teacher that shape tweens are basically useless and he agreed! And yet we still waste time with these monotnous excersises!

And at that, do any of you actually have shape tweens in a flash that you have submitted to here on ng? Like are they generally useful in some cases or can just a tween do what they do or good ol frame by frame?

Shape tweens +1 use

The only thing shape tweens are useful in in complex shapes are changes of color if you're looking for a fade. Other than that i see absolutely no use for them in any way shape or form =P

Ibut I think Luis' would be better if he chose another font that wasn't so pixelized, something cool or cartoony.

And just what exactley is wrong with pixelz? Hmmm? I need to change my sig srsly... when me sis is off the laptop (which has me fireworks, I'm on desktop which has flash mx, flash 8 and some fucked up version of photoshop...). I'm thinking of making a sig that will tribute Christopher Walken or Hugo Weaving, they are soooo cool!

I'm yet to see someone use shapetweens as a major part of a toon. But then shape tweens always look really mathmatical, which in my opinion isn't so great seeing as motion although mathmatical is very difficult to replicate in a mechanical fashion. Generally I'd rather not shape tween things unless I'm attempting to do something with that even of movements. Faux 3d turns using shape tweens to my knowledge are more work than its work with any complex figure.

Just my opinion, and unless someone says something very enlightening it is not going to change.

Nothing... that pixelated font just doesn't suit Luis' signature. And you're signature doesn't have anything pixelated very much including the font.

Who says it has to be? And the font was sydnie or westminster but when adding the red outline it changed itself to arial or something and I wasn't about to bother with it...

Shape tweens can be amazing if used properly. I remember once there was a similar debate about shape tweening in the NGAST a year or two ago. AITD found some amazing examples that were here on NG. I wish I could remember what they were called... anyay, AITD himself made a pretty kickass avatar using shape tweens and used it in his sig.

All the tools in flash are good if they are used in the correct instances and properly. Just like the motion tween, the shape tween is looked down upon but it can be useful sometimes.

I believe that quite a bit of shape tweening was used in objectionable apparatus.

It's rated "mature" so maybe 3 people who read this thread can look at it. ;)

I was about to link to that very same movie. In face, all of Kol's movies involve ingenious shape-tweens with NO 3d enhancements. I absolutely love his stuff, and that is why he sits as one of my all time favorite artists on Newgrounds. I really really wish I could shape tween as well as he can, it really is incredibly impressive.

Also, I can nearly promise you that NO ONE actually pays attention to the warnings and suitable ratings on flashes.

Motion Tweens

There's an interview in the NG Mag with pyropimp, the guy who made Star Wars Gangsta Rap.

"What animation techniques do you most commonly use in your flashes?

Well, technically, I guess it would primarily be shape and motion tweening ;) Layers and layers of motion/shape tweens. You would not believe how many layers I have, in symbols, scenes, and the main time-line. I wish I knew enough classical animation to be able to do frame-by-frame. "

This guy is an awesome flash artist and he mainly uses motion and shape tweens. So I guess, that just says that shape tweens can be very useful and look very realistic and amazing if done correctly.

On The Lot

Have anyone seen this show? It's a show on Fox, about a group of directors picked out of favorite submissions and they are competiting for a role to be a director for Dreamworks Studios. They get 1,000,000 to make their first movie for the company.

It's a pretty good show. I've been tuned it. The last airing was Today at 9:25pm til 10 but thats it. The pilot episode aired Tuesday I think. :] There is going to be another episode on Monday from 8-10 [ a two hour episode ]

If you guys haven't checked it out, I recommend it. It may be a Fox Reality thingy but I still find it interesting.

Venice Beach

Just a quick side note for anyone interested - Yahoo's got a feature on the famous graffiti walls of Venice in Cali. Worth a watch/read, it's pretty interesting to see some vet's take on the current state of things down there - how even their work gets sprayed over before it even has time to dry just because everyone wants to get up on a Venice wall.

Man, that was trippy. The colours and the smoothness and the shape tweens were wicked.
But I loved the camera movement the most; the zooms and the skewing and stuff was cool.

Yeah, you can use it to draw any shape you want around vector art in Flash and it will make the shape inside what you drew higlightable for usage.

I use the wand tool on broken bitmaps (Like ctrl+B) thats about all I use it for though.
