RE:Libertines

Neither Barat or Doherty made anything amazing after 'Up The Bracket' and to a lesser extent 'Don't Look Back into the Sun'. They pretty much burned out after their first album.
That said, Up The Bracket is brilliant.

The little reunion show looked pretty cool though, I wish I knew about it beforehand.

I prefer there second album to the first.

Can't stand me now
Music when the lights go out
What became of the likely lads

I think those tracks alone are pretty cool.

luis said he'd start one up later on so prehaps we can have a reg collab ;)

a reg collab would be cool since we all have very different styles and skills..

some could do games and some could do animation.. ect

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-05-03 08:57:01

Back-at-last-thingy

Not that anyone gives a shit, but I have just returned from my half year backpacking trip in Australia. Which means that I had to manage for 6 months without Flash and Newgrounds, quite a long time, especially when you just started feeling you're starting to get the hang of it :). Then again, in that time I came up with enough ideas, sketches and concepts to keep on working until I'm starting to get senile.
I guess I also missed a lot of important 'events', such as the release of Flash 9 (I'm still trying to decide whether to get it or not) and whatnot. And appearently I also missed a lot of namechanges, as I only recognise half of the people on the Reg Lounge at the moment, I guess I'll get to know all you guys when I start spending some time here again.

At least I didn't miss the NG upgrade, thanks to Tom's rather slow progress ;).

Flash Books

I recently just picked up the most worthless Flash 8 book in the world. I litterally flipped through all the pages without even reading them because I already knew everything they had to say. I'm from the 6/MX 2004 days so I was trying to brush up on my AS2 syntax and functions, especially if I want to move up to AS3. I was just wondering what kind of AS2 specific books would you recommend? I need something that covers everything but isn't just a reference manual.

I agree with your frustration.. its tough finding flash books that are more expert related... every flash book i pick up atleast 5 chapters are devoted to reaaallly beginner things like symbols, smoothing and other shit. you may want to look into the flash 8 bible... i havent dealt with it too much but i imagine a book that thick must have something worthwhile in it.

Flash Books

At least you can find them, there are like 3 local and large book shops and none of them have anything about flash, just dreamweaver and like 5000 other books :(

And to be honest, I kinda feel embarrassed benig a 13 year old in a book shop, especially in the computer section lol...

You know what, don't be. Be proud. I walk around my College campus proudly wearing my USB key, holding my Programming and math books, but I walk with a strut, because those who are too busy trying to look cool are the ones who are going to be working for me when I have 7 businesses and a vacation home in Italy. ;)

Xeptic

Good to have you back :).

Books

I've got one amazing book and one bad one. The good one is called Action : Animation - Making things Move. Its a pretty good book, it starts of with 1 chapter which explains what the basic stuff you'll need is, eg onEnterFrame, handlers, function, OOP etc. Then, it progresses from some very nice effects to some 3D Backface culling and Inverse Kinematics.

It really helped me, and i would reccomend it to any intermediate developer/programmer who wants to go up a bit. If you want an example, i made this using a tut in Chapter 5/6 and some of my own stuff.

/Rant :P.

Flashing

I joined NG Oct. of 2003. It was about 6 months or so before that, that I actually got the program. So it's been a good 4 years. I've been around since flash 5... though it was actually the end of it because shortly there after mx came out.

I got it 6 years ago. I didnt use it much for like a couple years in the middle.
I've been doing bits of animation as long as I can remember really. I used to go on weekend courses and stuff when I was a kid.

Why go back-packing for half a year anyway? You must have some HORRIBLE blisters.

Very true, but I had a very great time as well. Plus I got to delay going to uni for a year :)

I never went to any proper organised lessons or anything. Every now and then my parents would see a day or weekend workshop claymation thing or something like that. Usually pretty cheap and good fun. Very interesting thing to be doing when I was younger. like 8 - 15 or something. When i was 15 I got hold of flash.
I once went to a flash class, some time after getting flash. I hadnt realised it was about flash before I went (it said computer animation or something). WhenI got there I found I knew probably more than the teacher did.
I probably mentioned this at the time but there was one of the same sort of classes here recently and I went and helped out. Was really fun showing the kids how stuff worked. At the end I made a really simple animation and they were all really impressed. I knew more than the guy running the class then as well. He used to go to the uni I go to now. Was a good fun day.

Beautiful Stories

How touching ;)

I had flash about 6 months when I was in my Digital Media class and we started using it. I remember I knew more than my teacher and I had flash such a short time. So, using simple buttons and animations I created a projector about myself. I found it funny the only thing he could critisize me on was my crappy drawing. From that point on I pretty much had to teach the class because they'd come to me for help, and try to sit around me. I enjoyed the popularity for about a week, until I missed a due date because everyone was bugging me to help them.
