Wedding Present for Tom
What about something like the 10th Anniversary Collab?
Granted, that'd be hard to pull off in... 11 days, but it could fully be done.

Wedding Present for Tom
What about something like the 10th Anniversary Collab?
Granted, that'd be hard to pull off in... 11 days, but it could fully be done.
So I just spent about a wee burried, coding everything I could think of in order to gain a little knowledge and expierence in AS, I figured it would be easier to become slightly profecient in as 2 and then start as3 rather than try to figure out as3 while even the real programmers are.
I still was able to watch a couple of Pico animations, but I didn't really find anything I thought was that good. Alot of animation was insane, but none felt that thought out or were thrououghly enjoyable, everything was kinda gore and fighting, beautiful fighting, but still just fighting. Of course I've only seen the highest scoring ones so far, so I'm sure there's a few gems I haven't found.
I wish Mogly and Psycosis game had lasted a little longer, it was unique and rather fun.
Medieval pico was enjoyable for a bit to, and just about all the movies were well done. Like I know I don't have a right to bitch, but there wasn't really anything I've found yet that I'll go back to in a week or so.
I'm thinking about taking a programming course at carnagie melon, It's like 6 weeks and i will have the money for it. And a friend of my families is willing to give me an "internship' at his division of activision, which would be unpaid and I'd just be there bitch for a while, but I think I would learn something. But I'm not sure I want to spend that much time on a hobby. I mean like a fun hobby, but a hobby none the less. =\

this is a good book.. its a film book but what i found cool is that it uses drawings to show the shots and it tells you what movie uses it so like you can see it as a storyboard and in the finished product if you need to.

Pico Day Aftermath
There was some definite talent brought forth and a ton of stuff from hot new up and comers. I'd say the gems were worth it, but over all it left me hanging a bit. Everyone seems to feel that a bit I guess. Maybe the hype was too big? Oh well, it was still a fun day. Lots of crazy things.
Luis, your game was solid as hell and after you changed the difficulty I found it perfect. It still took me a bit to beat it, but it was just more rewarding when I did. and ending made it worth it even more. FANTASTIC. <3nene

Thanks <3
Did anyone catch that the name Johnny Utah appears on the example of that scan above? What a coincidence i picked a page totally at random.. i swear.

Hahah, I thought you did that ON purpose. That looks like a pretty decent book, I am going to have to check it out at Borders one of these days. Thanks for letting us know.
Utah in Books
I have that book. I thought it was hilarious to see that name. I almost e-mailed him to tell him he's a star, but Jeff probably just would have responded with a dick joke. We use that book in my video production class.
Digg Ramsacked
In case you weren't around today, Digg was under a huge attack because they removed several articles and stories concerning a hexidecimal number that can crack hd-dvd's (please no discussion of piracy directly). In cease-and-desist letters, Digg was told to stop. Obviously Digg complied, but the users got pissed. Thousands of articles and diggs flooded the digg portal, until the site was taken down.
A bit later, the founder of Digg made a blog post about it, saying "screw this", and is now allowing these posts to be made again. The Digg portal is still being continued to be spammed right now, but it should be letting off soon.
What do people think of this?
My personal opinion is that Digg users are being incredibly childish over this. Obviously, if someone posted child porn to the site and dugg it, it would be removed. If someone posts illegal codes to the site, it makes sense that it gets censored too. If it comes down to it, 30 people may lose their jobs if Digg goes under with lawsuits. I feel a lot of it is immaturity and people on the internet wanting to raise wholly hell for the sake of fun. If people are interested in arguing copyright methods, then taking down Digg to make a point wasn't the way.
I am kind of disgusted by this event.
Hi there!

I'm assuming he took the name directly from Point Break. He probably watched it right before making an account or something random like that. Anyway, he probably knows where it's from.
My screen name is also from a film, see if you can work out which film.
Re:Digg (read JMTB's post on last page
It disgusts me
I dunno, in a sense I quite like it. I like that 'everyone is voicing there opinion' and all that. This is me second guessing the whole thing a little, and seeing it as a bit of a beating the man event. But it certainly is pretty interesting to me. I liked that the creators of Digg backed the people, that's pretty cool. I'd like to see what happens when stuff like this blows over.
Re:Johnny Utah
Yeah, his name comes from Point Break. Check his profile his pic is from that film. I've seen him say it somewere anyway, I think somebody was already Jeff so he just took Johnny Utah.
Re:AS3, Denv
Must say, it is very cool to see Denv back around again. Hola. Inglor is not back tho.
Did anyone see the AS3 Cheet Sheet in Denvish's topic? On of the users replied with a link to it.
I feel quite out of the loop. I haven't slept in my own bed in ages, likewise, I haven't spent much time at home. Forgive me for stirring this up again...
Luis' Game
I didn't find it that hard. I did read that he lowered the difficulty but after about 5 minutes on easy I had mastered the game.
Disease
I got Epididymitis. It was probably the most painful experience of my life and for some reason I couldn't help but laugh the entire time. While standing at the desk in the emergency room I was standing one foot, clenching my fist around my sweatshirt, trembling, and laughing. I'm pretty sure the cops always sitting there assumed I was on drugs.
Long Term Relationships
It's almost ironic how we were talking about marriage not too long ago and not I'm suddenly in a long term relationship. I think I'm justifiably skeptical about signing a lease where I will be more or less stuck in the same living arrangement for nearly a full year with someone who I admittedly barely know.
Oh well...I doubt any of you care that much...just make sure you never get Epididymitis.
Point Break
I forgot about that movie. I'm ashamed, I'm supposed to be a huge movie buff. Bah, Keannu Reaves, there's probably a good reason I forgot it.... But I think John C. McGinley was in it... and he's awesome on Scrubs... oh well.
Digg
I plan on shivving all the idiot kids who complained about this. The was breaking the law, DON't EFFEN COMPLAIN! God...
Can you Digg it?
never went to that site.. never really liked it.. :P
Luis and the magical gift
perfect gift = money :)
Wii
Playing wii all day and now i have an erection :)
AS3
Well I just got Flash CS3, wanted to see for myself how different it was to 8, and it really is pretty bad. I spent about 20 minutes getting a drag and drop script to work with api, normally this would take less than a minute. I'm still looking into actually attaching and scripting movieclips (now that all the scripting has to be done on the frame).
The new method of drag code is about 20 lines long, compare this to the original startDrag and stopDrag script, only 6 lines long. Adobe have really screwed this up.
Still, if I work at it, I'd probably figure the language out in the same time it took me to learn AS2 (a few months).
This is Madness!
No, this is Madness Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Madness Day. A day too far? In this reporter's opinion, yes. Yes, it is.
Discuss.
So help me, you better discuss!
Madness day
:(
I hate madness anyway, since i dont even like krinkles lol. But maybe we might see some good tributes? It just seems like a reeaaaly easy way for someone to get a high rated flash. I mean pico day flashes got over-rated IMO and on a madness day the same would happen only it would take less time to make them. They would all be the same too. No storyline

Take a quick look, i changed the links. Better or worse? Maybe a light red...
Did I mention that you both Fuzz dot com?
I got you you're site nearly working under IE6. But I gotta say, you're code's a mess! =P What's with the random comments? And why are your <div> tags all capitals? Tell me your email and I'll send you the html I've made.

I dont think they're random there for templates.. and yes my codes a mess. I had coded most of it ^_^
But the capital div's? I dont see them 0_o
You both fuzz dot com
If any one knows what this title is a reference to gets 100,000,000 cool points (yes, One hundered million!).
eMail sent. Your code has load of random comments <!--here starts XYZ---> etc. Also, rather than having CSS rules defined in your HTML file, I'd recomend a seprate file, so you can apply the rule to multiple pages. Define a set of style rules, then wrap the correct parts of the HTML files:
<div id ="style1">
<!--html goes here-->
</div>
etc.
Speaking of HTML....
New tags
Who here still uses <b>, <i> and <u> on the BBS instead of (the new correct) <strong>, <em> and <ins> tags?
Crushy needs game help
I dont like making actionscript help topics, so can someone help me...
Ok, I'm making a game where there are buildings that duplicate on intervals. But instead of there being one more building, the first building's dissapear and the new ones appear, I need it so that they are all visible, not just one.
Heres the code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (!timer) {
timer = setInterval(function () {
_root.str.attachMovie(strM, "str"+i, _root.getNextHighestDepth);
with ("_root.strM"+i) {
_x = Math.random()*550;
_y = Math.random()*400;
}
}, 5000);
}
}
By the way, I tried 'duplicateMovieClip'.
Thanks in advance :)

If every time you dupe a new MC the old ones disappears, I'd imagine it's because they're being created on the same depth. Instead of getNextHighestDepth, try, set the depth at 1000+var. Then at the end of your interval add a var++.
When I’m dup’in, I always have a predefined depth, and just add to it for every loop.
If it don’t work don’t blame me! I’m sloshed!

You need parenthesis at the end of your getNextHighestDepth() function call, then it should work.

It's just a random day, not even Krinkel's Birthday. Plus, I think it would be different if it were like Denvish Day or Inglor Day, where we did it once, it was done, and then we just did it for fun.

I agree.
Digg obviously isn't big on moderating posts. But seriously, what a whiny bunch of little bratty users. Do they honestly need that code up there? Is that freedom of speech, being able to post a silly little code?
With that said, Digg didn't handle it right either. First of all, they didn't allow the code to be posted because "they listened to the users". They let the code be posted because the users were screwing up their site and they wanted no part of the chaos of the site. So I don't buy that bologne one that they are allowing it because the users "spoke". They are letting it stand because they can't control their own site which leads to the next problem. It's pathetic what the userbase did, but it's also pathetic that digg can't stop them. You have a $60 million site, and yesterday we saw that at any time the users can completely screw it up. Doesn't sit too well with investors, advertisers, and even users.
Next, Digg needs to stop trying to make themselves out to being a charity. I cringed when I read that blog post that they "don't want to shut down because the users would be upset". GUYS, we're not stupid... Digg is a cooperation. It's the 90th ranked site on the web. We ALL realize their bringing in the big bucks, and if Digg tries to accomplish things by trying to gain sympathy then I'm worried for them.
So yeah, the bottom line is the users acted like little babies, and Digg acted gutless and spineless. I'm not really sure which is worse.
