I figured this would be the best place to advertise... I have a series of cartoons that I want to do. I already have a lot of the pre-production finished. I have scripts, sound, and character designs out of the way. There is just one thing I lack: An animator. I need an animator that is also a good artist. This is going to be a series of 19 cartoons based on an entire album by Frank Zappa. The scripts call for really complex shots and a lot of these are long as compared to most of the stuff on the portal. Your reward? You get some free music out of it, I suppose. This series should also be good enough that it gets decent scores. Your batting average would go up, I suppose. While this isn't going to be easy, it should be fun because some of the songs have long instrumental parts and that allows for lots of creativity. If anyone here is interested, please send me a PM for details.

Coughcough. I'm fourteen! :D

I've made that much over a few days being thirteen (mainly by the 'Look at me, I actually know a first thing about what all that shit in Flash 8 is for!' thing). Professionals are idiots.
I saw the guy as one of those who want something big to be going down for like five hundred bucks at first, but the second response cleared it up.

Maturity
Yeah, I saw that first thread. If it was just one person, I might have deleted their post, but it's a general concensus. In their defense, $500 is pretty scant, and sympathy escapes me when I see what he expects.

420
If you haven't heard of 4/20, it's because it's entirely made up, modern, and a shabby foundation for an excuse to smoke more than usual, for whoever's convincing themselves they need a reason.

Maturity might be the problem, or it might just be the expansion of capitalism into our humble forum.

I'm only 14, and I've had a quite successful time with flash, so i think its fair to charge what an game/animation is worth, not based on age. Thats why i never mention my age when talking to sponsors, just encase they think, 'hes a kid, his stuff is crap'.

Anyway, I agree with DFox, although i wouldn't place all the blame on 13 year olds ;).

I would disagree. Most people on this forum are 14-18 and still at school. In the real world, its very difficult for 14-18 year olds to earn that kind of money. I earn that much working for a whole month 15 hours a week at tesco, on top of all my school work. I would gladly accept $500 for a few hours work. Obviously for people with full time jobs, it wouldn't seem worth it, but i would say $500 is reasonable for what he's asking for, considering the age of the market.

Anyone still in education who thinks $500 is too little for a small game which is pretty much just a key listener and some graphics, is either too spoilt for their own good, or unable to complete the task and just wants to sound intelligent. Well thats just my opinion.

Another very valid question... Then why are the first 4 replies complete bogus, unproductive, unhelpful, and immature? That guy clearly valued the opinion of Newgrounds users, and I would be utterly shocked if that opinion hasn't been shattered. It comes off badly on everyone.

Dunno, it's a shame to see after returning, but I guess there's no solid way to stop it...

Heh sorry I contributed that post, I just thought their wtfs were really stupid so I had to make fun of them.
That was a totally valid question and the person was very polite.
If someone wants to get their child technologically involved at a young age it's their choice.

1) get flash
2) read up on the internal tutorials and help files, and if nessery, newgorunds/online tutorials.

3) learn..

these are what people should do when they are just starting flash and have no exp and want to learn.. when you get hundreds of threads of people asking how to do flash and how to do very simple things, you'd expect us, the comunity, to get pissed off and just point out the fucking obvious now wont you :)?

5th element

no idea why but just watched that <a gain> on Sci Fi.. good movie.. random comeos and great music..

why cna't we have that sorta thing here at NG?
a movie with a solid script great music and prehaps some cameos..

Thats irrelevant. The flash forum is meant to be a place where people can ask questions and get mature answers from experienced Flash authors. When in actual fact, it just turns out to be a bunch of 14 year olds who think insulting people will make them look big and earn them respect. General forum is where the fags belong. The flash forum should be where Flash related questions are answered, and mature flash related debates are held. Not a place where people can get their e-reputation up.

At the end of the day, if you're asked a question which you're bored of answering, don't answer it. There's no need to try and think up a witty response and make yourself look cool.

When you get down to if the pay was good, yeah, I'd probably agree with you, personally I wouldn't take the job. But someone like Cybex is an experienced game developer, and he said it was enough... So even if some people don't think it's enough, he might have wanted that job... I just hate the fact that some people might have a negative impact on him getting the job. Again, it doesn't seem fair, whether the pay was too little or whatever.

Augh, I ALWAYS do that. And you're 100% right, it's all age-groups, not just 13. And I should realize it offends people. One time I said something not-so-baffling about 13 year olds, and someone sent me a really nasty PM :) That's something I want to try to stop doing :)

Heh :) No biggie. I mean I just feel it's the little things like that that change the direction of a thread.

OK anyway that's enough about this, but I had something I wanted to ask you guys...

GLOBALIZATION -> Flash

I capitalized globalization because of it's importance to not only the Flash world, but everything.

Anyway, I would say with about the last 2 games I released, I've noticed a HUGE, HUGE increase in the amount of times they've been played on non-english, out of U.S. market sites.

I find that really cool. Everything else is becoming global, and so are FLash games and movies. What are your thoughts on it? Is it a good thing? Have you noticed this at all? I might release my next game with two languages built in, english and spanish. Would you ever do that?

I just wanted to get insight on this because it's SUCH an important subject. For those of you who don't know, competing in a global economy is becoming increasingly important, and it's something to think carefully about :)

And just some quick stats: My newest game was played 207,542 so far, and out of those MORE TIMES ON NON-ENGLISH SITES THAN ENGLISH ONES. Amazing.

I've noticed that. I've found that my game accumuloate is hosted on quite a few foreign ones. I like the fact that its spreading across the globe, but at the same time I don't like the fact that i have no way of getting in touch with them, if I ever need them to take it off their site or change something.

EXCELLENT, excellent point about communication. That is such a huge issue. Not only just talking to them, but I'm not sure about you, but sometimes I even have trouble telling what language the site is which is really annoying. So yeah, communication is definitely a negative.

Kirk's right. I just had my morning wood sucked off for 1 quid and he designed my webpage before he left.

The only form of smoking I actually agree with is shisha. It's a nice way of socialising and sharing.

The arts ok, but as ArthurGhostly said, lower voices for the voice acting.

Also, the recording for it was terrible, you need a better mic or clean out the static.

And less of that stupid humor that only five year old find funny.

Here's my advice- change the animation and get a new mic. It makes all the difference. Also, doing different voices helps (your own isn't that original). I had that exact problem between Check it 1 and 3, but it made all the difference once i fixed it.

Its not so much the mic as the recording program. If you're using windows recorder, its going to sound like crap. But, in fact he really should just get some voice actors from the voice actors' club.

I've noticed this too. When me and Fuzz released Jellyfish I got a bunch of hits from this site that I still don't know the language of. This site & this site generated a load of hits for me.

The second one has stolen almost every game thats got a daily award on NG.

Yeah I love it, its so cool to see how many sites your game is on. I googled bee dodger shortly after its release and i was amazed at all the sites it was on. Its great to have your stuff be viewed in other countries! And I love how its transferable, no translation for games (except maybe instructions, but those can be visual too).

I was most definitely release games with more than one language built in. While, games are for the game play strictly, and most can probably be played well enough without reading anything...it sure can't help. I think it is a great idea to break that language barrier and open it up for a much larger crowd. It really is amazing how things circulate so quickly on the internets...

Cigarettes seriously taste like ass 90% of the time but sometimes. The other 10% of the time is when you get drunk and decide to chain smoke. The percentage is different if you're European and like to smoke after sex in some sort of cliche spectacle.

Whatever. Moderation is key.
