Character design

I've been working on a character design for my new series, the Jt Experiment. I've gone through a design for Jt only to change it the next day because the colouring's bad or the proportions of the body are screwy.
Anyone got any ideas for a skeleton to base my design off so I can get consistency with proportions?

I did that for something and it actually came out really well. Obviously you'll have to be more patient and put more time in.

Just find a shape that you like, and then go with it. Split it into parts, so the top of the arm is 'so' big, and the legs are so long, measure it out with the line tool each frame (or ever other) so that it stays consistent.

Obviously i'm talking about sketching the character out before hand.. if you didnt guess that, make sure you are. When you are doing this have shapes in mind and what shape the character is. Whenever I draw my sketch outs they often have a sort of 'square head/feet/hands' to them which influences the final thing, I should stop doing that and instead make them a circle.

What does JT stand for anyway.. to me JT = THE reverent Justin Timberlake.

RE: Spam

Joke. Anyway, thanks for setting things straight john, this thread was going suicidal.

It was actually funny before you said 'Joke'. I don't understand why people do that, if you make fun of people do it til the end, don't stop by saying it's a joke. I personally wouldn't be offended by seeing a not really offensive mockery of me on the internet, I mean come on, I've got a life too... (well nearly :p)

See? that's the right use of mockeries. I didn't say it was a joke after sarcaristically stating I had no life, sometimes even a little smilie with his tongue out does the job.

Should we have computer lessons at school?
I know some people learn about some basic programs at school, although it's not very elaborated. In a lot of other schools, however, we don't learn anything about computers and even my mom can use computers better than some students. I mean come on, I even saw people who can't use emails or search something on google... The downside would be that it'd be a complete waste of time for those like toast who know a lot about computers and don't need to have lessons about it at school.

What do you think?

Re: Computer lessons

Well, yeah...this is a strong dilemma. I was also a bit shocked to see people in our class who had no idea how to turn a computer on.
People like that definetly need some computer lessons, but on the other hand people that have much experience with computers will have nothing to do in those lessons.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-02-17 08:08:30

Well if they do teach that at school, it should be optional. But then you also think - those who don't even know how to use search engines probably don't have computers at home, and therefore don't really need to know how to use them. However, I bet that even those people will always end by buying a computer one day, especially that in the future all the electric business (phones, computers, etc) will be highly developed.

I dunno, there's a few things that get in the way with that:

One thing is age. When should people learn to use computers (in education)? It's pretty fucked up to teach a five year old, then, say when they are about 9 have them easily finding sites with snuff & gore & porn etc etc. The internet is so fucked up, it would eventually weave it's way in that everyones seen this shit which would leave a mark for sure.

When I had IT in year 7-9ish I didn't give a shit about computers. I just sat next to the biggest nerd or the quickest typer and let them do it. That was partially down to the teacher though, just a total bore, your average IT teacher.

Maybe if computers were bought into education as a whole, so in art class - students use the computers to create art in PS. Design and Tech, people use CAD Cam and all that. Wait isn't this already happening?

I dunno tho, computers are something that are pretty important and will be etc, I really don't know :).

IT

I am more than computer capable, and even if I wasn't, I could always learn on my own to some degree. Instead, everyone at my university is forced to take a semester of some IT class that sounds more annoying than anything else.

Damn those were the good ol days of discovering the underbelly of the internet.
I thought it was something natural and proper for you to eventually discover what a dirty place the internet can be. i see it as part of growing up much like getting your first boner.

I think we can all relate to that first time we found something trully disturbing...

and got off over it.

lol, I remember the first time me and my mates found Snuff-X.com. We watched Headless Dan and also some guy being trampled by a moose. We were at school so there were some places we didn't go (rape/executions lolwtf?).

Steak & Cheese and Punchbaby were also ace, back in the day.

I've not been able to play my bagpipes since Xmas day. I gave them to a piper in the Scot's Guard to treat the bag for me, but he's taking ages to do it :(

So all I've got to play when I go home at weekends in my Banjo.

How Are You?

Do you think when people ask, they really care? Or are they just being polite? This girl said it on my way into my building, and I gave her a generic response, I'm doin' alright. But I'm starting to think I'm doing less than alright. The only person who has seemed to remember my birthday is that same damn girl who has been saying happy birthday to me since 12:02 yesterday morning.

Internet Porn

I was looking at porn on the internet from the tender age of like 8. Pamela Anderson has become a very influential part of my life.

RE: How are you?
I agree. It's always so repetitive.. Every time you say something other than 'oui' in France when people ask you how you are, everyone's like 'omg' and stuff :P Sometimes I just say 'no' sarcaristically cause I've been saying yes for every day of the past 3 years I've been living in France, and then they start to get worried and they think something's wrong :P It varies depending on the country though, in some countries they tend to say it rarely cause 99% of the time it's the same answer. If something's not good, it's the person who needs to say it instead of the other person who is supposed to ask.

Either way Happy Fucking Birthday!

Thank you. I just want to sit around and watch TV or something but the cable has been out since yesterday. I don't even know what to do with myself.

RE: PC failure

The cheapest way to get the best possible computer is to make it yourself. My PC which I bought (a compaq) i bought for 600 quid (1100 or so dollars), and I later found it would've cost 350 to build (about 600 dollars).

Build FTW.

De-education
Anyone else find that once you stop learning a subject, you forget everything about it? In GCSE for French, German and English language i got A*s, and for art i got an A. Half a year, i can't draw for shit, i can barely form a sentence in French and German and Toast the 13 year old Frenchman was pointing out my grammatical errors on my website.

Half a year ago, i was like Mr Fancy Pants know it all. Now I know nothing in any department apart from maths and science (and the trouser department).

How are you?
I fucking hate that question. People never REALLY give a shit. The worst is when someone says it as a greeting, when you are passing them in a corridor or on the stairs. Then you gotta decide whether to stop what you're doing and actually say "yeah, I'm good thank, how are you?" as if you care or just to keep walking. Pisses me off.
I usually find something contrary to expectation to say. I try and work out how I am and actually tell people, usually I'll end up saying "hungry" or "tired" but occasionally I'll be like "really great actually".
Every now and then, I'll say "really bad, my mother just died" or something like that, just to watch their face.
I don't think I ever really ask people how they are.

How are you?
It's just a modern commodity to say it when you greet someone. There are in fact some instances where you need someone to ask you, and even if they don't really care when they ask, you can have them care by responding interestingly. Not the average "Fine, and you?" responce. Also, when talking to a old friend you havent spoken to in a while, it lets you know whether they've grown unstable and on the verge of poking your eyes out with an apple, or if they're doing fine and life is treating them as it should. If you don't feel like responding don't, you don't have to think about stopping, if you stop then you stop, you can always keep on going.

Made me lol, I 100% agree. The worst situation is in the corridors, when I usually just say 'hi' and keep on going foward instead of saying how I am, or I just don't respond at all, or I sometimes say the typical 'I'm fine' answer, or I say 'I'm really bad'. but omg, I hate people who CONSTANTLY say it to any person they see and know in the corridors... They must say it like 50 times a day >.>

What is this shit?
Video number 4 is strange... or maybe it was 5. Something about a guy who punches meat...

I'm fine thnx, u?
I can type that in like half a second, it's only thing I seem to say on MSN... ever.

Except for 'no, Pamela, I'm too tired to have sex with youagain today...'

Anyways, yeah, it's annoying to be asked that in real life (referring to 'how are you'). Especially when you just say 'hi' to someone and then they ask how I am and then it's just rude not to ask the same question back and then i try to carry on walking because I don't really want to talk to them but then they'll ask me somthing else like 'how is so-and-so recently?' so then I have to stop, turn around, and then answer, but then it's awkward to carry on walking again and then I'm just left standing there awkwardly not sure what else to say FULL STOP.

How Fuzz (movie)
I saw it yesterday, the first day it's out :)
The cinema was nearly empty though, on a 500-capacity screen there was only like 40 people...
It was hilarious, one of the best movie's I've seen for ages. Perfect balance between action and comedy. Has anyone else seen it yet?

RE: Computers and classes
ICT is compulsory in my school up until year 9, but I took it for GCSE in years 10 and 11 anyway, mainly because the future is going to be run by computers, probably. I think it's very important that people are taught at least basic computer skills, like how to write a letter or search the internet. Although that being said, I've never actually been taught how to do the more trivial stuff on a computer, like change the background or install programs... I worked that out for myself. But it's definitely an important thing to teach.

Also, why assemble your own computer for £300 when you can buy a decent pre-made computer for less than £200....
