Woah! I hadn't even noticed. Good luck in your modship jmtb02. :P
i think i can spell your name! WIN.
Argh i'm so angry right now. I have no idea why. The perfect way to describe it is a drunken rage.. this girl I know was like it one night and all she wanted to do was punch someone. All I wanna do is break something but I have no idea why im so annoyed. I'm so damn tired I fell like my eyes are gunna drop off my face.
I wanna go to bed, but for some reason I just watched Forest gump, then Casino instead. I say watched Casino it was more like sit through it.
Grr, gunna go break something or punch a wall raging bull style.

Wait... Are you talking about jmtb or Ninja-Emo here?

Now that you mention it :o... both? :P.
Random thought.. I've been entertaining the idea of trying to put some sort of flash forum activity that would put the forum into a more constructive path.. I saw LaserKarl doing it with his Creature of the Week over in the Art Forum and theres no excuse why we shouldnt be able to come up with some sort of easygoing activity that people could participate in.
I know that hashbrown has tried that in the past to limited success but maybe what it needed was a veteran name to take control.. i dunno im just thinking out loud.
any thoughts?
I feel like this forum lacks alot of personality and interaction, everyone sort of comes in asks a question and is off, which of course is ok but ive noticed that it sort of leaves the regs in limbo because there isnt anything to latch on to and so it causes them to wander away over time... gets old just answering questions all the time you want to feel like youre part of something at some point i think.

Wait, would that be animation?
An animation would be cool in some way, altough I believe many old animation regs has now moved to the Art Forum. :P
If we do this Flash thing we could probably bring back some of them though.
Personally I would like to see some AS challenge (I know there have been both already) or maybe something combined of those though.

Yeah I've noticed theres alot of AS people wandering around looking for things to keep their brains busy, theres gotta be something we could do that could join both sides.
I think what we could do is something where like theres a vague concept and some starting sprites and then people just start jumping in and seeing what they can do with it and as the actionscripters pitch their idea based on that starting point, artists could then either join up that idea with art support or wait around and see what some other actionscripter has in mind.
Dunno I'm thinking out loud.

Or something like,
Topic-starter says some idea or a title or something, maybe scribble down some stuff.
And then ActionScripters do a small minigame based on that idea or title while animaters make a short about it.
I dunno.
Nott rying to be negative here, but who honestly wants to make stuff for the fun of it. I don't know about everyone else, but I've passed the point where the longest I can spend on a flash is 5 minutes...I like to do something...put alot of time into it and get some decent recognition for it i.e. the portal or other websites.
Sorry to be so negative about the idea...but...if I wanted a brainteaser i'd google it...if I wanted a time waster...i'd make a game.
Hey People
Yer, this place is cool, good thing it was started by such a respected author, otherwise it would have been thrown in the trash, anyway, im here alot!

A game idea itself can be hard to figure out.
And you may want to practice your skills or showing the Forums that you're good with Flash.
If this doesn't fel like something for you, well, you don't have to join.
You can just post in the other threads like usual.

Yeh, true, no ones forcing me to do anything.
Just one question...i've seen all these people (like the guy 2 posts ago) with their sigs as what appears to be the new ng layout...did I miss something...or is someone just good with photoshop?
The thing about AS challenges is, you can either do it, or you cant. I like art or animation chalenges because you see alot more failures, and people can actually get feedback because they tryed. But i dont want to completely exclude programmers ofcourse....
But its a good train of thought Luis, we just need the right idea for it. I cant really think of anything at the moment.
How does this sound? A thread where artists / animators and scripters pitch in to be randomly paired up and make a short game. Whichever pair's submission has the highest score when it's done wins.

it crossed my mind when i posted, but almost seen it as to big a project. i mean i have other things to do in a week then work on a radom game every week. ofcourse thats only if it wa every week, which in this case would be very hard to accomplish. but might be able to work....

Well, it would most likely just be some small minigames.
Im thinking that what i could do is just setup a spriteset of roughs and then each aspiring animator or whatever could use those as a basis for their own creations, sometimes the things that animators struggle with is getting the sprites to move right and having a rough to work from could help them get over that hump.. At the same time actionscripters or whatever could use that rough set to either set placeholders or even make something full blown out of the roughs, ive always found games like fancy pants cool, where its like deliberately rough looking.

That would be incredibly fun. We could make a "inscriptions" table. And then some days later, some script to randomize pairings between animators and ASers. Total fun.

I like the idea of those ai robot battle things. They were great, and i neve used to be good enough to make my own. I think we should re-introduce them.

The major problem lies in the fact that when one of us makes a Flash piece we want to really show off, it goes into the Portal and not into the Forum. I'm pretty sure most people visiting this forum want to use it's wisdom and guidance to submit something to the portal.
With that in mind, it's probably going to have to end up with something that the forum's members (as a whole or individually) can submit to the Portal at the end of it. Like Icarus, I don't want to spend time working on something that either won't futher my skills or be of some kind of Portal / Professional value at the end of it.
Not that showing off to everyone here is without value. It'd just be nice to be able to show off to the rest of Newgrounds. I think it was either Neg or Lu yesterday saying that the Flash Forum is small in comparison to the rest of the forums on this site.

Sounds like it fits the bill exactly. Might need some modifications (such as a theme/ subject for each contest, a time limit and a stock preloader for use so we can all recognise it when it gets into the Portal), and probably needs to be started by a real vet of the forums for it to take off (I'm looking in the vague direction of Luis...).

Luis did you get my lockpickin' file? BTW ima change up some of the coding later, like makin it so you can't raise a pin if the tension is above the shearing point.
Also, you never answered my question of whether it would be to make a game out of it or just to add graphics for fun.
At 10/10/06 12:47 PM, KaynSlamdyke wrote: (I'm looking in the vague direction of Luis...).
Exactly. That would be fun. :D Luis would be the best person to start them aswel.
^^ I agree with those concerns, i dont think it makes sense either to just do throwaways. I like the idea of a randomizer, and it would be cool to take it on a test run, keeping it simple.. like generate a pool of artsists and actionscripters and have the randomizer generate a bunch of people and from those settle in one 3 sets or something manageable and setup a related challenge that those 3 sets would tackle.
It would be interesting i would think. And once its all done it would be turned in as one collaborative piece/3 games.

Well i was just adding graphics for fun, i think it still has some ways to go if you do plan on turning it into a game, not sure what those pieces are but i think it needs more beef and engagement before you can label it as such.

Yeah definetly. If it's going to hapen you should just start it now. I can imagine else it'll just go on for too long, and all these great ideas would pop up, but nothing would happen. For example someone would probably suggest putting together a site for it, etc etc.
Just get it started and see where it leads :)

Yeah, this is really cool.
If done well I can see it being very productive and fun, and I think Luis can pull it off.
But yeah, I'd like to participate as long as time permits.
