More money D:
Apparently I violated some compyright thingy by hosting an Mp3 on there, and now I've gotta pay a 20 buck fee to get it back up.
That crap is ridiculous. If people want their songs protected, they should put a little thing on the mp3 that when tried to be uploaded somewhere, recieves an error that says "This is a copyright mp3, hosting it is illegal and protected by it's respectful owner(s)" or something. That way, if people get around it, then they can sue. Or, if you're giving permission. Not what I want, but if the authors want it so bad, they should protect their crap.

You can't expect people to be forward thinking enough to take all of these measures, especially if they don't expect anyone to take it. Saying that someone's in the wrong for being naive about stuff like that is just a lame attampt at shifting the blame from yourself. If you want something on your site which doesn't say it's free, then just e-mail the author about it. It's not hard, and people can be pretty cool about stuff like that.

Those were alright, I didn't grasp the concept too well so I didn't do them.

Me neither. I'd take part if they cropped up again, though.

I rember those AI battles.
I used to be a reg back then :(
But they never really took of like they were meant to...

You still are a reg now, man :P Hell, I recognise you.

The problem was that there were too many workarounds. FAR too many work arounds. People's robots could win exceptionally easily, simply because they had access to the same functions everyone else's bots had.

What needs to be invented for that kind of thing is an entirely new language to work at the level above AS - the players of the game need to code thier language in a script or a fashion that Flash can then be taught to interpret. For instance, you could end up coding a creature or bot that's instruction set was (in some strange example code)

10 TURN LEFT 1 DEGREE
20 SHOOT
30 GOTO 10

And Flash would iterate through the instruction set in order under a set interval for each robot. In this case, it would (on the first iteration) change the robot's _rotation value by -1, then (on second iteration) perform the shoot command, then (on the third iteration) go back to changing it's _rotation by -1. Predefined functions, variables, flags and constants such as "SCAN", "COOLDOWN", "AMIBROKEN?" and "PI" should be defined, and an instruction manual written out for players...

Games like Core War and AT Robots have been living off this kind of thing for years now. If the games want to continue in that kind of fashion, then that'd be the best way about it.

Or even better. I have recollections of a very old and probably very unpopular PS1 game that's main mechanic was you created robots by building what was effectively a cross between thier circuit board and a fancy flowchart. Taking advantage of Flash's graphical user interface, why doesn't someone make a game where you have to code your AI using this kind of interface?

Sounds like a fairly decent game concept actually... Might use that one for a single player game...

I think it worked fine. All we need to do is lay down some ground ules and then check eveyones scripts to make sure they dont break the rules.

Dictionary.com to the rescue!

I'll go to college for Graphic Designing and illustration.
Than I'll do Animation on the side as a side job just for fun since I don't want to work for a company. Since working for someone takes the fun out of it; like you don't have your own ideas anymore. So the animations would be my little thing like a hobby.
Rudy is a mild mannered mailroom minimum wage slave by day, but whenever there's an animation to be done or a nation to save, he leaps into the nearest phonebox and becomes... Flashman! Defender of the Portal! Man of Actionscript! Can blam tall filesizes with a single vote!

Somehow I don't see it. Work really cuts into a demanding hobby like Flash, and if your mind's not into it after spending two hours commuting and eight hours at a desk then you'll really fall apart. Naturally some people pull it off, but they seem to be in creative jobs or at least jobs they've got some calling in. Denying that just so you can keep your business and personal life so seperate just sounds like too much to take on.

Yeah, I know but I really like drawing as well as animation. I would really like to major in illustration and graphic designing. It seems fine to me or so I believe.

I think I'll be able to do it. I'm gonna be independent in the flash department. Not working for the MAN!
I know a few friends that work on client projects and a real job plus Flash on the side. It would just take time and I'm willing to do that.

There must be a way of making games like those work within Flash, whilst giving it a reason to be within Flash in the first place...

thats what i did, when i was in charge of an AS war. no one seemed to like it.

i made a bunch of functions for them and everything else was read only

Yeah, but where's the fun in that? The whole point of the game was to practice coding AI against other people. Which was very fun (even though I didn't finish my bot)

well in mine, you would still have to figure out how to detect where the other bots were. find the closest, the angle between you and it and the distance to know how to make move turn and attack.

i made a really cool bot

I randomly came out with it after thinking of firestorms. Then i started to use it to play unreal tournament, rest is history.

But then again, i became MORE fond of it because i found out Iron Maiden's new (and suckiest) singer's named Blaze. <3 the name.

When did they get him? I thought they still had Bruce, after leaving and returning about a dozen times. The vocals in their new album, A Matter of Life and Death, sounds just like Brucey boy Dickinson.

Im not sure in what album he debuts, but the one i have is the "Virtual XI" and Blaze is its singer. Thing is, he honestly sucks compared to Bruce.

That means the better portion of you all have it too, sleeping around and buttsecksing all the other regs, you sluts.
