Hello.
Here's my last attempt to spark up some activity here.

What's everyone doing when they're not sparking up activity here?
Besides engineering work, I've been spending more time with friends and working on improving certain aspects of my life. I'd like to do some traveling beyond the usual haunts, but it's too damn cold rn for that.

I mostly just hang around forums until my classes start. Waiting for evening classes are a such a crunch.

Good question. I find the day often whiles itself away before I have any real idea of how to spend it. Too much time lost in procrastinating either on Reddit, and these days I find myself playing osu at uni more than doing project work, just because it's not worth the trouble to leave early (!)
On a positive note, it's been about 230 days, give or take, since I started Duolingo and I'm set to complete my A1 french course and the DELF A1 in march. God knows whether I'm going to ever use the language but I guess we all start somewhere. Been meaning to start drawing, and getting back to programming, but seems like stuff, guilt or plain laziness seems to pop up every now and then that prevents me from doing that.

I used MSG as a seasoning for the first time recently, and it's kind of amazing. Took my cucumber salad to the next level.
I feel like it's about time

Would a flash interpreter written in wasm+webgl have the same security issues as flash did?

You might soon be tempted to put MSG in damn near everything like I once did. Embrace the dark side, but a word of caution: never put it in milk. (It sounded like a good idea at the time)

One issue I remember was in casting Int Vectors to Object Vectors or something, where internally the allocs caused an exploit. That kind of thing wouldn't necessarily show up, but then there might be more exploits like that in a new platform. I have a feeling JS is better maintained than the Flash backend, so maybe things like that wouldn't happen as often. But idk.

When in doubt, run it atop another runtime :P

Putting MSG in most stuff makes it taste a bit cheesy / umami / etc. Putting it in milk...I don't know if I put in too much, but the resulting mix was like drinking puke. I wouldn't really advise it.
Or be an MSG hero and do it.

Does anyone still use flash to make interactive games/content, and if so what reason? I'm working on something in flash because there's a specific tone I want to achieve that cannot be done if I use another medium or "migrate to HTML5." There's always the prospect that when flash becomes obsolete my project will as well, but if that's how it's going to be then so be it.

Personal opinion here, and also I don't use flash anymore: I feel that it's easier to create games in flash. If you opt for HTML, in my experience it's easier to export with a game engine (Unity etc.) than to write JS/TS.

Still am, but I'm targeting AIR instead of the Web player, and that's because of a(n effectively) legacy codebase. I could migrate from AIR to, say, C# but I'd lose the supposed multiplatform advantage that AIR has over plain C#, and I'm not too sure about Mono.
I guess for my next project I'd rather use Java or C#. Miss me on the Electron train, though.

I feel like nothing has come close to a tool that makes it as easy and quickly to create web games as Flash did. I've found Phaser 3 to be the closest thing, but it's still not as easy without a graphical editor. I'm hoping Wick Editor can be a good flash replacement but it still seems to be in its infancy:
PlayCanvas seems really nice for 3D projects, and it has a neat in-browser editor. I haven't made any complete games with it though.

Seems like a good start but wow, 800KB for a 6 frame HTML animation.

A friendly reminder to NOT vote for reanimated movies and collabs in the monthly voting.

I can understand reanimated movies to an extent (except when they add quite a bit to the original) but why not collabs?

Well, the keyword here is "original". While reanimated content is interesting to look at with their varying styles, they can easily overshadow other original content and collabs that don't use already established characters.
Basically, reanimated stuff is just a ticket to "easy clout" for many, hence why there's so many now. You're free to vote for the content, but just keep this in mind.

It’s still on my tongue. I guess this is the “I want more rice” feel you usually get, but it’s just pure disgust now.

No idea who alls still around, but I was digging in my external HDD for something and found @PSvils' Stargasm song. I just checked and it's been on Spotify for 7 years, which I coulda been listening to this whole time. Doesn't look like his NG account exists anymore...
Is this what being old feels like?

Probably, that's a name I haven't heard in quite a while x_X I remember @MintPaw prior to his name change too. Quite a few emails about how bad I was at programming then (...and still kinda am haha)
Funny to realize the posts from just a few pages back date to 2016. Egg82 creating his .ninja website still seems like news to me.

Maybe...is being stuck in the past a part of being old?
