AIR is highly regarded even if adobe doesn't want to admit it. Someone made a swf with haxe, brought it into air, and packaged it to ios, no clue why. Haxe has more options to export to, and the syntax is better than as3's.

Anyways, what is everyone else up to these days? cool projects, life choices, jobs, family and kids?

I have a cool project that won't see the light of day for a while: a murder mystery in a frat house/manor except you could be the murderer covering your tracks if you wanted. It's a lot cooler in my head. And it's isometric bc fuck other game types.

No job, no kids I hope.

So I could make a game in haxe an export it to obective-C for ios?

That sounds like a cool idea. how far are you along?

edit: whoaa, there is edit button.

Don't really know about haxe but AFAIK any game made in flash that targets AIR for android and so on would require a user to download Adobe AIR for Android if they want to play it. May have changed in the meantime, though; however I wouldn't count on users downloading a separate application just to play your application.

Exams currently going on for me and coming up soon, can't seem to get any projects finished for some reason or the other. I've got a really "good" project on hold right now, just because of some stupid excuse. Whenever I work on it I just lose the motivation to do so after a few hours just because I don't see expected results.

Good to note. Yeah i thought that was a thing. And yeah... since AIR probably not that common to have for the average user people probably wont go through with it.

Exams sucks. Sorry to hear that. And for your projects, i find that meditation helps me a lot when in the zone of lack of motivation. clears the head and problems start getting solved and results start springing up. maybe just me, but focusing on my breathe for 5 mins then good to go.

OTOH whenever a user installs an app that requires AIR to run, a popup asks the user if they want to download AIR to play that. Not sure if it's going to be worth it, though. Some have complained about the bloatiness of AIR and power consumption, two things that aren't readily testable.

You make a game in openfl and export it to an ios app. It requires xcode, so there's probably some o-C going on under the hood.

I have ideas, an isometric engine that I've been working on in haxe, and a file folder for the game whenever I do start to make it.

Nah you can bundle air with the app. It means the app is slightly bigger but these days apps are huge anyway, no one really cares about size.

And FYI for iOS you don't even have a choice, you have to bundle air with the app

I've been brainstorming some system with my housemate. Everything is sort of "ready to go" and we just need to start writing code but motivation and uni. Also been brushing up on my Haskell and Maths because I feel it'll be letting me down in my modules this (and possibly next) semester.

Haven't touched AS3 or Haxe is forever, I might need to get in on a jam to force me to do something.

Thanks for info guys. Yeah don't want to bundle app with AIR for a big file size. Especially if user has other apps that have AIR bundled with it as well. I think Im going to go with haxe. MSGhero, be ready for some haxe question in the next couple weeks or so.

Anyone got and cross platform (iOS, Android and Desktop) examples written in Haxe?
As in an example of a finished product that has been built in Haxe

Papers please was written in openfl and works on the 3 desktops. Don't move was fairly popular and was featured in a humble bundle, mobile and maybe desktop. Some are on greenlight. Openfl's showcase has more examples most of which I've never heard of. The main haxe game besides papers will be defender's quest 2 which is in dev (the guy behind final fantasy's music is doing their intro sequence or something like that).

Haxe scarying me already. Made a little demo. It works in flash, but on android font is not right. (because font was not embedded)

I tried embedding fonts... and nothing working right. Spending hours embedding fonts??

Is there going to be more of this with haxe? Or is it just me, and once I get use to it I will be smooth sailing?

I did get a nice pixel effect of 5 x 5 blocks bouncing around my android phone screen which was pretty cool though. I havent given up on haxe yet, but the journey is starting out bumpy.

This is my main fear. I don't want to run into a roadblock when it's too late. Keep us posted on how you get on, it's useful information :)

Are you using openfl? http://www.openfl.org/archive/community/bugs/fonts/

At 10/16/14 08:51 AM, MSGhero wrote: Are you using openfl? http://www.openfl.org/archive/community/bugs/fonts/

I am using openfl. Thanks for link. Did not include a xml tag of my font in the application.xml. So was my lack of knowledge not haxe. But for some reason couldn't find that anywhere when searching online about embedding fonts. Was a little hassle, but its all working now.

Check out my awesome title screen! lol.

So when embedding fonts, make sure to include the path in the application.xml not just adding the file into the assets folder. Then you can get the font by..... openfl.Assets.getFont("Id_tag_You_Give_In_application.xml");

Thanks alot MSGhero, you are my hero!

Any of you guys got samples of stuff. I wanna see some cool stuff.

You have to include all of your assets or asset folders in your XML. I'll upload my iso thing later, it uses an openfl.geom.matrix so it's not dependency free, but that part isn't super crucial.

https://github.com/MSGhero/Iso/tree/master/iso is my iso lib so far. Some things are specifically for flixel since that's what I'm using, but the first two files work for openfl in general, haxe in general if you get rid of one of the functions.

PSA: PSvils Announcement: Haxe and OpenFL are not the same thing.

Sweet! Looks cool. Think i'll mess around with this lib a little bit just for some practice if that is cool. Help me understand your library better and improve my haxe/openfl.

Haha. I haven't seen PSvils in awhile.

Why is business so hard? D:

Girlfriend's business is too big for just her to keep up with all the work, which means we need a hire. That requires (at least) a tax licence, which, for her means more paperwork than most people since she has govt' benefits.
On top of that, a new hire would mean getting an actual office space instead of working purely from home. Which means money. Thankfully spaces around here are pretty damn cheap, but still..

I feel like this is a big hump we need to get over, and once we have the money to do it (and be able keep affording it) then things will become much easier since we'll already have all the utilities we'd need. The problem is getting them in the first place and then making sure we have the budget to keep them.

Too much paperwork and money, man.
