Under Judgment Influx
Damn near 4/5 of the entire portal is under judgment. Some of this stuff is really sad but there are some decent attempts. I supposed this is the result of the holiday contest. Either way, a glance at the weekly best and you can see that there are some really good things finally being submitted to the portal after an uneventful period of time.
UnForged's Milestone Posts
I was gonna comment on this earlier actually. About posting in the artist showcase thread way back when, like page 1000 something. I first posted on page 71 of the artist showcase thread. It was around my 40th post ever. I'd post there much any more. But I may as I start having time to draw in flash again.
Skills vs. Education
I am majoring in Graphic Design at a university right now. I feel almost like its meaningless compared to if I transfered to a legitimate Art University/College. Graphic Design seems almost all encompassing at times, like it could include photography, animation, business card design, t-shirt design and printing...but do you think you could walk away with a degree in Graphic Design and get a job in any of those fields. And for that matter if you could would the degree matter or would it be more important to bring a strong portfolio to a job interview.
Its something I've been dwelling on for years and almost prevented me from declaring my major but I decided that rather than be like everyone else who comes to college just because its the natural progression after high school I would actually be old fashioned and study something I care about to better myself and learn something.
Something that really got me thinking was when I was on Rockstar's website (the developers of GTA ) they had job listing. Many said you should have, for example, three years experience in 3D design rather than only one or two saying you should have a BFA in Fine Arts (it actually probably said something more like Animation or Illustration, can't remember). Its kinda of interesting to think about being self taught and acquiring the knowledge that you apply versus going to school to learn the skills but maybe not having as much to show for yourself.
I hope this spurs some conversation, and is considering "on topic" for the Flash Regs.
