Must be something wrong with your monitor.

And I miss this place. I plan to try to pop by every now and then.
this thread is basically old members coming in and saying 'hey i know you' then leaving again
It's like a reunion here! (I am Cybex by the way, I never got my account (or Alt account) back from when the star syndicate stole it).
I miss this place too! Who remembers the 2007 AS wars? (You will not believe how long I spent searching for that link!). I think the AS wars has to be my favorite ever newgrounds memory!

I honestly believe from '04-'07 when I spent every waking moment on newground's was the happiest time of my life. Waking up super excited to see what was new online. I'm too much a critical asshole to enjoy anything now though. Growing up sucks
Yeah. I look back at my profile and I have no fucking idea how I made so much junk in 2005/2006. A weekend used to be a "short project" for me back then, and a month long project was a long project. Now a month project is like the shortest I can do anymore, and a long project is 3 years of full time on the same god damn thing, while also canceling every single side project I've tried to do while working on it.
Looking forward to being done with it so I can try to get back into the groove of doing a bunch of short projects again.
Is anyone going to Flash Gaming summit in a couple weeks?

the new emotes are kool (aid) too
Oh you guys won that?! Great job, well deserved! Looking forward to playing the game!

I know when I was trapped in high school, couldn't drive a car yet, lived in suburbs where all my friends started drugs, and played high school soccer, i spent every second i could trying to create stuff at home. I think experiences give you inspiration, so when we're working in an office with just us 2 we don't get the same experience as in school with all the drama, activities, etc.
tl;dr my cartoony flash submissions were inspired by the hurt and pain of high school drama
Belated congratulations to team Closure, I voted for you guys. Also Glaiel appears to be pretty fucking huge.

i'm actually 4'10'' everyone else is just REALLY short
i'm 6'5''

In that case you're only an inch taller than me. I guess everyone's just really short then.

correct.

I do. Thank you.

No offense, shorty.
Tracking one heck of a memory issue in flash player:
http://jpauclair.net/2012/02/25/epic-memory-track-down/
Summary being that the following code executed every frame will cause flash player to allocate 'megabytes' of memory.
var anon:*;
for(var i:int = 0; i<1000000; i++)
anon = 3.3;
There's also a bug report you can vote up on adobe:
I love you, Luca; NAPE is awesomesauce dental floss.
Soooooo, what's everyone doing project-wise? I've noticed we get good discussions when someone makes some neat little thing. And I'm bored right now...

Well right now Im working on a tile based, top down puzzle game with 40 different levels. Its not to neat, but thought I let everybody know. I envolves pushing rocks, teleporting, doding bullets, etc. Should be done, sort of shortly. I still need music/FX and to add a couple more hidden and unequipable items.

Wow, that looks amazing!
It's so awesome how, the concept is so simple, but implemented well it's awe-inspiring.
I love how there's so much you can do by having a huge number of objects moving together by some algorithm, stuff like this:

Both are really cool.
Wish I could do that :'((

Movement - WASD / Arrow Keys to move the Black Ball
mouseX controls the radius of the disturbance point ( Black ball), and mouseY controls the strength. For "realistic" results keep your mouse near the very top of the movie.
Also what's funny is that it was lagging on my computer, but no lag when I run it on the dumping grounds....hum...
All that grass moves like that just by me changing 4 or 8 parameters (I have a total of 8 points controlling the field). I also have ideas on making the grass like this tiled, which would be way more efficient in an actual game.
P.
Your dynamic grass looks pretty good. First I thought the ball was moving in a hamster ball because there was something like a globe around him :P, but then that changed to just a small circle and I could see he pushing off the grass while moving. Also the wind over the grass looks really cool.
Also yeah, Joey Betz's tests on the viscoelastic fluids algorithms was pretty cool, I remember I already saw that hundreds of times on his website.
I also like a lot Fluids Simulation fluids simulation:
You can move the fluid with the mouse.
It is awesome! Looks very realistic!
I never considered that kind of stuff could happen with code. In the end, it's all just math and approximating Calculus I guess.
Could some of you test my isothing again? I rewrote the pathfinder for 3D xyz inputs, and it seems to work. I just uncommented box 2 and 3, so lemme know if something breaks or looks screwy (might have forgotten to reference the array instead of box 1). Arrows to move/climb. You can climb sideways/shimmy if there's more wall there, but not onto a wall perpendicular to the one you're on. The three enemies can stack, so it might look like 2 or 1 eventually. And any suggestions of course.
I'll put an option for right-handed peeps, don't worry Sam

A few minor bugs I spotted:
Hold the down arrow until you are on top of the wall (5 presses). Once you are there (and at least one enemy towards the front of the screen is climbing up the wall), press the up arrow once to cling to the back side of the wall. The enemy climbing the wall will get lost.
Hold the down arrow until you are clinging to the top of the front side of the wall (6 presses). Once every enemy is at your position, press the up arrow once to climb on top of the wall. One of the enemies will climb down the wall before climbing back up.
All in all though, very cool stuff!
Everyone should go check out this blog about Air 3.2. With performances like that there's no reason not to use Air to publish your games to mobile devices!
It could be cool, but I'm skeptical so I will reserve judgement for when I try it myself.
If they could nail the performance on mobile devices I would be admittedly, extremely excite, as well.

I've got great performances with Air 3.0 on iPad 1 & iPhone 4S. However, I wasn't doing anything as intense as those demos (but I wasn't blitting either), so using Air 3.2 should be like grease lightning. You should try it out man, by all accounts Starling is the way to go to if you want to make 2D games that harness the power of Stage3D.
.
Coding a pathfinder in MATLAB is significantly harder than doing so in AS3. I think I'd die if I had to take a serious non-OOP class
My phone can handle stage3d and your computer can't? :3 Is it that your graphics card can't handle it, or has Adobe just restricted use to more recent cards?
Hey this is neat! Write Javascript games with Actionscript :)
