Yeah, well I'd be happy if they just went back to XP and stopped making new OS's.

I have no problems with my flash game being ripped and distributed around the internet - more coverage the better - but recently I found it on a "Flash Games Hacked" website, where the game was modified to make it easy to beat. I don't want this version of the game circulating around the internet. What actions could one take to get the game taken down from the website? If I contact them and they decline, what further actions could I take?
It'd be nice to know for future reference as well, I've never really thought about Flash games and laws.

I guess you can, sure!
Also, since some components (engine) have been infected, AVG's virut remover tool (rmvirut.exe) removed them...and now it says that Flash can't be opened because "some files were missing" and "reinstalling it would help".
As if I didn't have enough problems already D:

Arcadeprehacks and similar sites that hack flash games and put them up have a policy where, if you don't want your game up there, just contact them and they'll take it down. They also do not remove any ads or branding, and if the game has any leaderboards, they take those out so that the hacked game players don't have an advantage over the normal players.
They're trying as much as they can to please developers, and in reality, you're only gaining exposure and ad revenue, as sometimes the hacked version could get way more views than the normal version. But it doesn't cover the fact that they are basically getting a modified version of your game for free.
Their practice is still pretty shady though.
Also, a side note, the way you phrased the first part of your game being ripped and distributed sounded like that peeved you to some extent. Developers should be asking people to put the game on their sites. It's a really convenient thing that sites do that without you asking. But you probably know that already.

Yeah. My first thought would be to contact them. I'm happy they didn't remove my ads or splash screen, but even so, the fact they edited it to begin with is the main reason I don't like it.

I suppose that's true. Can never get enough ad rev :P

No, I enjoy finding my games on other sites, it sort of let's me know the game is good enough that web owners want it on their websites.
Also, just another question - is the Newgrounds API for tracking views reliable? At one point, it said I had less views than the amount of views it had on Newgrounds, and it's also telling me I've had more ad impressions than total views.

There's always discrepancies when it comes to tracking API's. The number on the NG submission page is the number of page loads as far as I know, so not all the page loads may have made it to the preloader, and not all of the those that made it to the preloader will make it to the main menu.
If you have inter level ads, or something similar, then that could be a reason for the number of ad impressions being higher than the total views.

June Game Jam
I love these jams. I think I've been in every one since the very beginning. I've only missed one due to it being during my exams.
I remember the first one being really inspirational, as the winning game was made by monkokio who's now apparently part of a big successful indie company making awesome console games.
It's inspirational that he was once just a kid trying to make flash games, here on newgrounds, and having his account since 2003, and that he'd still visit NG and participate in events.
Which reminds me, I really think the game jams should not allow teams and that team selection should be all random. That was really the best part about the whole thing. You keep on glancing at all the people joining, wondering if you'll be paired up with a big awesome dev or to a lesser known artist/programmer. It really helps everyone get to know each other, and gives newbies a chance to tussle with the big boys.
It also proves that a game's success is never really tied to individual components. You could make an amazing game even with limited art and programming skills. Heck, being limited could actually entice more creativity.
Your thoughts?
Man I seriously ramble a lot.

I agree, though reliability is so tough on these projects. I guess the logic is that in the end, the game jams benefit more from having finished projects rather than just promising teams. Also i remember it being stressful on Austin, cause you inevitably get people who are like ugh why was i stuck with him, or whatever. So I guess for the sake of the project its better to just let people sort out their team and have the challenge come in the goal specific to the jam rather than forever havethe team selection be challenge of it every single time.
I'm gonna wait until im serious and have the time to dedicate to a jam. I am a shit user and i never forgave myself for that failed puppies game i was doing with i-smellz. oh well.

I should probably enroll in these things to brush up my timekeeping with personal projects. It's obviously something I'm weak at and having someone tell me to get my act together who I *don't* regularly procrastinate on MSN with would probably be a good thing for me,

I was only a part of the second one and it was a bad experience because of artist "issues". It looks really fun when you're not stuck bickering over trivial things...
The rest of them have been at awful times--during exams, during robotics competitions, during examsss.....
Hopefully one day I'll be free to join another one. Good luck to all who plan on being a part of the next one.
Just watched the Ubisoft E3 thing and my heart sank when I saw the level in that Rayman game that's a shooter where you inhale enemies to use as ammo :(
dude! Ubisoft, come one! I was gonna come back to this idea.

happy birthday?
if that doesn't work I've got 20 more generic responses.
Here's something to date me:
When I was a kid, I went to a friend's birthday party. Thriller by Michael Jackson had just come out on tape. The kids felt all sly for sneaking away to watch it.
In the middle of the video, the kid's dad, in a werewolf mask, jumps out and starts dancing along with the video.
I bet my friend was so embarrassed.
I am going to be the 60000th poster, no matter what.

That's a huuuge resemblance. You sure no one at Ubisoft didn't play your game and was all like "this is brilliant! Gotta steal it!"

It seems a lot of people have had issues with their teammates at some point or another. I've had one teammate not show up until the last second and ones that bailed etc.. but I like to think it's all about trying to compromise. Being stuck with an annoying teammate who you know is less competent than you are, but you have to persuade him to a solution and work with him, I think that's a good experience.
These game jams have overall been an amazing time for me. Nothing like cracking out code at 4 AM, everyone is asleep, racing against the sun, because once it rises, then deadline is almost here.
I remember in the first jam, when I was trying to finish the last part as fast as possible, I kept looking back at the window every time I exported to see whether the sun has risen yet or not. I kept doing so, until at one point, it was pitch black outside, I tested whatever it was I was doing, then exported again, looked back, and it was freaking morning! The sun rose in like...seconds..it was freaky.
Man..I seriously ramble a lot.

Both xbox and sony were a yawnfest. I hate how both consoles are heavily relying on movement based devices. The percision of those devices is so laggy and unprecise. Its so gimmicky.
Side rant alert, i found almost all the speakers presenting to be just terrible. For an event that's got
so many eyeballs I'd have thought they would invest more time into having someone with more charisma or delivery walkthrough their game presentations. You had like weird roboto man, panting fat black dude, bald guy with a weird face. I mean most big corporate creative director roles are nothing but talking to big crowds.
Also I didnt see much of the ubisoft presentation but when that dude was like 'we want to provide a new take on ww2' i was done with it... i swear if there are any more games based on that fucking war....
