Seems like Toast read an interesting article and was looking for a chance to show it to everyone.

Pretty interesting, but doesn't come in argument really, he was asking for advice on the lineart aspect. If I must chose, I go for the one on the right; the left one seems like trying too hard to achieve a certain effect. I just don't like how it merges in with the overly simplistic character.

But essentially the thick black outline acts as a "backing" silhouette (i really hope you can understand what I mean cause it's fucking late) which helps define the characters pose and stance.

I still prefer the other one.

the thing with this, sam, is that people will know that you have used the default loops and it would take the originality away from the content. Try to use some sound samples online or just record some out on the field. there might also be copyright on the sounds. check what the license is.

I was more worried about the copyright issues with it.

I'd record some live sounds but honestly, I'd have no idea of how to get the effect I want.

Interesting read none the less.

Actually, it does apply to DBZ. The picture the guy chose was awfully crowded and the composition was terrible, that's what made the silhouettes look bad altogether. If you were to take a picture of one character, you'd surely be able to tell what hes doing. I don't think he's bashing on anime either, seeing how he used Scott Pilgrim as an example of awe inspiring art.

I was going to post this last night but I was too tired.

I think he was bashing the picture more than anything. He uses two Wonder Woman examples, one correct and one incorrect which kind of shows hes more judging the picture.

I prefer the left one but it kind of looks funny with black outlines around the eyes. Personally I would use the skin colour outline for the eyes. Also try to keep a consistent contrast between the line and fill colours - the hat and skin lines look pretty light in comparison to the body and legs, which makes him look a bit unbalanced.

I'm pretty sure all the built in loops are royalty-free.

myHero.canJump = true; trace(myHero.canJump);

Output:

false

Now I'm baffled.

Fair enough. It was a pretty terrible composition. I just dont think thats the kind of thing they think of when creating thier art.

When i quickly skimmed over the article, i thought it was excusively about character design, not general compositional tips. My bad.

Do you have something in myHero changing the value of canJump at some point?

how could that make a difference

No, right now that is only to store the values. I guess I'll try implementing getters and setters later today when I have more time.

I made this with my boredom.
Doubt I'll ever use this for anything, but I kept myself amused with the little graphing engine it was built on.

I find cavities interesting, almost everyone my age and up has had at least one but I haven't.

Same, also looking forward to the new game BoMToons.

I played with it for at least an hour. Make a game called the super duper rollercoaster of boredom, where there is a track that takes 6 hours to get through, and there are check points and saves.

Hey guys, I posted here a few months ago asking for a tutor in AS3 or AS2. I got one, but he literally disappeared out of thin air. If any of you'd like to help me out with AS, we could do it through AIM and TeamViewer. Alternatively, you could link me to a great place to learn all the flash basics.
