Wow. Today, by total coincidence I happened to stray by the audio forum. Some guy accidentally happened to post a thread introducing himself, and damn, I mean, in General or any other forum, they would've eaten him ALIVE, but people are apparently nice and polite. On the newgrounds forums. DOES NOT COMPUTE.
Oh, and today, I unpluged my modem so I couldn't have access to the Internet and made like 40 frames of an animation I'm working on, I feel like I've done something productive.
Please don't tell me to get the fuck out since this is now dedicated towards flash and I'm talking bout animation, we need a reg lounge for that.
OOOH, Luis, can you make it happen?
pretty sure you can still talk about that stuff. just act like nothing ever happened
Damn, I hate Great Expectations so much. WTF do they make us read this crap?

Probably my favorite Dicken's book, actually. Every movie kinda blew though.

I heard it only gets good after Chapter 39 or so. I have 14 more chapters 'till then, and for now it's really an awful book.

I didn't realise people thought of Newgrounds like that :-o

youtube is just a bunch of little dorky kids who masterbate at the site of shanedawson. Devianart is just full of people who eat there own shit. Reddit is just full of stupid heads.
trolling aside....
yeah I'm surprised too, people don't realise that the hentai thing is only a small part on newgrounds, once hentai came along it started to look like a porn site, and all of the porn ads didn't help.
At this point, anyone who uses a sweeping generality to describe the content on a community site, let alone a creative one, is a member of the 'helmets indoors' crowd.
Think about it...everything by everyone = hentai?
You gotta be shittin' me.
Anybody here home-schooled? What did you think of it? What would you think of a more "virtual world" approach to home-schooling? Think 2nd life, but more kid-oriented and a little more structure (like having to complete studies and home work, but then getting virtual cash/rewards and other virtual world perks)

Well.
In a flash game: Doing school work in a flash game. I don't think so. But I think your thinking along the lines of the SIMS, right?
In real life: That would be awesome.

I'm not home-schooled, and in a way I'm glad I wasn't. I think a pretty significant part of the knowledge you attain from going to school you don't pick-up during classes, but rather outside of lessons. Interacting with other kids, you know, not just chatting, but stuff like getting beat up by bullies, setting fire to trashcans and getting detentions as well. Lots of social interaction going on which has a significant impact on your personal development. I think it's impossible to recreate those aspects in a virtual environment.
two cents

So, a really fun game parents let their kids play, but is locked by daily homework within that same world? I'm trying to think about the incentive to make kids come back the next day without having gotten bored from the previous day. Usually candy and cookies makes them happy. But I guess those webkins and virtual pets are catching on and keeping their attention in real life outside the virtual world as well.

Not sure what you mean exactly, but from what I can tell young kids fall in love with games especially virtual reality type things mostly because they are very good at imagining things, not so much because of the content. This 6 year old comes into the lifeguard office every sunday, and he plays the same 3 games on a learning handheld thing, and they all sounds horribly boring, but he loves them.
in summary, whatever direction you're going with it I think it has potential.
i loved public school and being constantly reminded what a piece of shit i was!

Hm, my rant really went nowhere, I thought you were talking about completely home-schooling kids in general, not about building a 'serious game' or some sort of learning tool. For my study I've learned quite a bit about e-learning and serious games, general consensus is I believe that it doesn't significantly result in better grades, but it does make schoolwork/learning more fun to do, which is in itself a positive outcome. I'd say go for it.

Public school was like that for me too, to a point. Most of the time I didn't go. I was a chronic ditcher.
My folks taught me everything of importance.
:)
Well, public school isn't that bad. Its just the dirtiness of the environment that I hate.
Know what I mean? The piss on the bathroom floors, the small hallways which they expect a hundred of us at a time to walkthrough, and just the overall school. The teachers I have no complain with. Some are nice and some are just crazy angry all the time. But they all, pretty much teach the same.

<-- Catholic school grad... Easiest way to turn a kid into an atheist.
Though I will say this.. the most effective schooling probably depends on the person.
For example, I change the lightbulbs in the personal corner office of someone I graduated with.

Seems like he does.. a lot :) I will give him a call

I really don't know the difference between a Catholic and regular school.

Catholic School --> Preaches insane Catholic beliefs, forces kids into a dieing religion and/or beliefs that only their parents hold
Regular school --> Doesn't suck as much as Catholic school
