Re: Flash in school

I don't take Flash in school, but I take programming in Visual BASIC and next year (BASIC is a prerequisite for C++) I'm taking C++, either then or junior year. Not too sure when though, it's a full year course and I can't take any other electives :-/ So I'll most likely take it sophomore.

Back on subject to my VB class, I didn't know crap about the language, read through the chapters a few times and I'm about a month ahead of my whole class. I went ahead and did every excercise in the book in the next 2 chapters and every time she assigns it I show it all to her at the beginning and she is flabbergastered xD I have a 100 flat average... ROFLcake.

That's very funny, teachers who are teaching things like internets or something that we grew up with is great, it's like an english teacher trying to teach spanish, foolish.

So know I am stuck teaching the entire class

That's geh, you're screwed whether do it or not, do it and you're the nerd that is teaching the class, don't do it and you're the jerk who wont teach the class. The only answer is when he asks you to teach, just hurl or something....that's probably not the only answer but it's the best one I could think of.

Does anybody else have flash in their curriculum? And if so, do you have this same problem?

Oh man I wish, that would be sooooo sweat, i would just flash drive in my stuff and do whatever, and everyone would say "like wow you're cool" or they might say "like wow you nerd" which would be worse...

How did you get introduced to flash?

I'm seriously wondering, when was the first time you seriously thought "Hey, I can make these!"

I watched Decline of Video Gaming 2 on one of my many visits to newgrounds... that was back when I was a little youngie and had an account on newgrounds... I forget what it was, obviously, because I got a new PC and it stopped saving my password, and I couldn't re--- ANYWAYS, back on subject. I saw it, had my fill of laughter, voted 5 (which didn't do much unbeknownst to me) and said "Hey, if he can, I can too, right?"

It took Decline 3 and the whole RotMK series over the course of almost a year for me to seriously think about getting flash. So, I finished watching Decline three and went to amazon.com and bought my lil' copy of Flash MX '04. Very cheap, mind you.

What's you guys's stories?

RE: How did you get introduced to flash?

I remember watching LF's "one ring to rule them all series". And i thought "Man, i wish i could make that".

So to google i went, looked up "animation software" and found out "Sothink swf Quicker" in which i started flash. Later on after my 15 days trial ended, I had some money saved so i went to a computer store on the mall that's close to my home, and bought it. Insanely enough, you can get a LEGAL copy of flash 7 (two years ago, it was extremely "up to date" back then) for about 20bucks. Honest. I have my box and all still, but i updated to flash 8 ;D

So yeah, now i sorta-hate LF. But he still made me start. :)

Re: Flash in school

I'm not really a "Reg" but I do like to look at this thread from time to time. I'm not even sure if I'm doing the odd bold thing right. Whatever.

I can related to the to flash in school. In high school there was a web page design class that was supposed to be a decent class. Like in years passed it had involved actual HTML and even flash. By the time I got there any HTML was replaced with dreamweaver, which sucked because I planned to actually learn a lot of HTML in the class. And we used absolutely no flash and instead used this terrible program called swish which was like a simplified version of flash for morons where you couldn't do shit. I was gonna be all bad ass and use flash anyway but it wasn't even activated on my computer. It was crap.

Now that I'm in college and dumb enough to major in graphic design...I haven't even been in a computer class yet. Next semester I take Computer Graphics and I have no idea what it is but from what I understand flash only comes into play when it comes to some website design class. There is an animation class but they use something else, which really makes a lot of sense.

Unpacking the Wii

AKA-Ben, a friend of mine, got a Wii and was nice enough to film it and put it on YouTube. it's a video of him unpacking the Wii. it's definitely pretty interesting, so take a look, why don'tcha?

RE: How were you introduced to flash?

ah, i love this story. it all started in starcraft. i looked in a random guy's profile, and by chance, he had a link to albinoblacksheep. this was around 2002, mind you. anyway, i went there, because i thought the name was funny. whilst there, i saw revolutionary cartoons, such as "The Demented Cartoon Movie" and "Mario vs. Sonic". i was amazed at it, but i had no clue how i could do it. i found a few links to newgrounds, checked it out, but didn't like it because it looked intimidating with all its porn ads.

anyway, in 2003, a friend of my dad, who happens to be somewhat wealthy, gave me and my brother a copy of Flash MX (which i guess was brand new at the time), and we both took to it, although i got frustrated and gave up. my brother continued making weird little flashes, and after seeing what he could make, i figured i might as well try again. a few months after that, i started making Rammer - killer, which i was surprised to find was quite popular (though not enough to win an award or anything).

and that's how i got into flash. the end. (:

RE: Christmas Header
I like it too. Although yeah, it does look really out of place compared to the orange buttons around it. And yeah, they're trees and stuff I think.

RE: Pseudo-3D Class
Sounds like a good idea to make a class out of it. It's already pretty easy to do though. Keith Peter's made a good tutorial about perspective here.

RE: Flash Question For All
Yep, happens all the time. :( I've gotten in the habit of pressing Ctrl+S every 3 milliseconds because of it. I hope they fix some of the unstableness in Flash 9.

RE: .net or .com?
.com is sexier. It's like saying: Hey, look at me, I can afford a .com domain! :P

RE: What made you start Flash?
I got Studio 8 to see what Dreamweaver was, really. When I opened Flash it looked all confusing...yet cool. I made it my goal to learn the basics of Flash (which the Newgrounds tutorials helped me do of course :P). Once I discovered AS, I fell in love. :)

RE: Flash in school
We had a bit of Flash in our multimedia class. It was basically stupid things like; make a 100 frame animation. WOW! We're doing better things next year I <s>think</s> hope.

Does this work and what's its point?
I hven't really posted here since we started the whole RE: Blah blah blah thing. Does it actually work, and what's its purpose? Yeah it makes everything look more organised, but it's still just as hard to keep track of whats going on IMO. Surely quoting people is enough to show what topic you're talking about. I think it's also a bit stupid trying to have multiple conversations at once. It seems we're trying to fit a forum's worth of conversation into one thread.

I preffered it when it was set out like a conversation where theres one main topic at any one time and then little side topics between a few people too. But thats just my opinion.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2006-12-05 02:22:04

RE: Does this work?

Well the spam levels have most definitely dropped so I would say it's working. And it also does give the thread a little more hierarchy, which in my opinion does help out when reading the posts. It serves as a filter really. This way you can read only what you want to read and do so with ease. No more going through blocks of text not knowing what any of it is about.

Flash Forum Mods

Has anyone else noticed there only seems to be two ''active' mods for the flash forums these days, Luis and Jmtb02...

theres the list of all those mods and most of them only moderate the gernal or/and art forums, prehaps its time for a mod sort out?

Some mods havn't ben online in a long long time :(

this isin't truely to do with the flash forum but thatamont of topics that appaer and don get locked or get locked after hours of being on the forum is annoying at times. pm'ing mods doens't always work ;)

as i type there are 2 other people on this flash forum. *sigh*

RE: Flash Forum Mods

Yeah it does just seem to be them two these days. Neg1 is about now and again, but it seems that Denvish has left and Afro is solely in programming these days. Still having them 2 as mods is pretty cool, as we have one animator mod and one AS'er mod.

Still not sure which one's which though ;P

Also, is it just me or is all jmtb02 does (mod-wise) is lock topics for having "undescriptive titles"? =P

RE: Flash Forum Mods
:: Also, is it just me or is all jmtb02 does (mod-wise) is lock topics for having "undescriptive titles"? =P

I raised him well. :P

Anyway, yes theres only few mods who frequent here but its better like that. Not long ago some general forum mod wandered in here and like banned all my regs or something. It was really rediculous and caused a stir, I think we scared em off.
This forum just runs differently than the general forum and believe it or not we're more merciful.

RE: is this working

I think it is working, life is about compromises and adding headers is a pain but it slightly curbs the mess that this forum was.... It was really annoying seeing a half page of quoted text with another half page of someone replying to a bunch of posts ... usually im only interested in a few of the subjects going on .. for instance i dont care about the wii discussion, with the bold headers i can quickly see oh the wii and skip to other conversations that do interest me, like the mod discussion :)

Meh, it's not like previous Xmas banners was edgy or anything. Any way how you can you be that controversial with Xmas anyway, short of having a graphic image of Mary giving birth to Jesus.

the header is nice, and subtly xmasy, its more wintery than xmasy though.. maybe a start for seasonal headers instead of holiday ones?

a year or two back didn't we have one that was an animated gif? that was a bit distracting.

what if instead of them just making a header, they have a mini contest beforehand so we can make our own headers :)

but i guess this is the last header of this kinda before the big change...

hopefully :P

Yeah, they did.

I had the other one in mind, the one with the evil looking guy in the tank. Actually that's halloween.. The christmas one I remember is the one with the flashing lights all around the edge and it was smaller to fit the old header.

Sonx the current header is how it will be after the update I think. I like this one except it doesn't acknowledge the Jewish community which I am part of.

i'd sya the banner , though more christian, is still more wintery and thus religion safe.

if they had included all religions, and different cultured themes then it'd loks messy. going with the simple santa idea is fine cuz sanata isn't really a christian only belief and most cultures do have some sort of santa icon.

if you still think that the header isni't jewish enough, pretend that the guy int he tent is a jew.

to be honest, i'm torn between submitting some of my work < yes amateur hour would fit nicely.. late at night> and keeping my stuff just on NG...

What do you mean safe? It's an old guy sneaking into a tent, out in the woods where nobody's going to hear the screams, with a bag of God knows how many big black dildos and some perverse, square sex toy in one hand. And the gang bang of reindeers and the sleigh only imply that he's on some kind of sttate wide rape spree.

Pfft, since when was Christmas abour religion :P? Maybe there was a little spirituality like at the start of the last century, but that was before all of the rabid capitalism took over.

Who can honestly say that they think of Jesus while they're tearing their new XBox360 out of its box?

I would have enjoyed seeing santa dead. Right now its like aww peaceful days on newgrounds. NO. I want filth.
