I don't know about the other mods, but the "can I be a moderator" question is typically volleyed with information about a 600 word research paper in perfect MLA formatting.

I usually get returned with some sort of "that's too much work and I have soccer practice" response.

Don't worry. I'll start advertising Newgrounds to 13 year olds in my school, and redirect them to you for questions.
Oh, and I'll probably lie to them a little. You'll certainly end up with some, err, interesting questions.

i was playing iSketch a bit more so that way i could get the ability to ban people, and i got banned for i think a day for drawing a penis.

two people told me not to go against the rules, so i quickly scribbled it out, but the deed had been done.

i drew the penis after about half the people got the word.

if the game was addicting in any way, i would kill you.

as would soo many other people. main problem factor in this type of thing (as with actually buying stuff online) is that if say the amount of people surfing the internet at any given time were one million, then the only people willing to pay for it at any given time (that is IF they find your game) would be about ten thousand. maybe less, maybe more.

ads are enough. the amount of people willing to buy stuff online without thought is grossly outnumbered by the amount of people who would only play your game once before realizing they have to pay to save.

there are too many risks and too many free games online to make something like this profitable and still build your rep.

Depends on the demographic of the consumers.
Here, for example, I doubt you'll get much. Many users are far too young to have access to the payment systems offered (despite what the surveys said; they are self-selecting), and so you'll just create hate.

I personally wouldn't bother either way, unless the game was absolutely amazing and saving was a necessity. It would need to give much more than personal enjoyment though; an absolutely massive hype, and a community - on the Forums or even in-game.

Oh, and I can play a game for 10 hours straight if I'm into it. And my laptop can stay on for an age.
Anything to avoid payment. Nothing personal.

I'm developing an RPG at the moment, and adding micropayments with MochiCoins (?) seems like a good idea. But would it be better if you bought more of the game's currency, instead of something you would only get by paying? Would people mind if you had to get something by paying?

hit-em up with the megapayment instead. Rather than 10,000 people paying 1$ each, you can get 500 ppl paying 20$ each, cuz they're rich slobs. Epic win :D

Meat Time

So it's only like 3 or 4 weeks to the next London meat. How many people here are going?

I might do. I'm only 17 though, so my options are limited.
Besides, I don't think it can match up to the awesomeness that was the Birmingham Meet.

Only 3 or 4 weeks though? Damn, time does fly

Maybe let them save, but charge them for better weapons/more health/morelives or whatever.

Yea i agree.

There used to be arcade games, like WWF Superstars and other games that had you put in more coins to replenish life. So the concept isnt that foreign. But charging people to save might be kinda dick-ish. I remember i used to hate basketball games where you had to put in more coins to play another quarter. I mean cmon. 75 cents from the get-go and i cant even play a whole match?

The goal is not to piss people off though. You should think of a model that only slightly annoys, but gives people a chance to remove the annoyance by making a donation.

For example: a nag screen that appears between levels with an advertisement, and a button that lets them donate to remove the ads.

Lots of sites make money by blocking ads for subscribers. It might work with flash games too. The point is that, even if they decide not to pay, they can still complete all important aspects of the game itself and enjoy it from start to finish.

Also, be sure to play up the "I'm an independent game maker, this is how I make my living" angle. That tends to garner a lot more sympathy than just taunting them with "WANT TO SAVE SUCKER? PAY ME!"

Lamo, that'd be sweet. "You have reached a save point, do you want to save? Well, you selfish maggot, pay me, you think I do this for fun? Well fuck you"

I'll put that if I ever a game.

Panhandlers don't retire millionaires.

Not in most cases, but they sometimes do. If it's any consolation...none of them are game developers. :)

Theoretically speaking it could work. Your always going to have those money-rich fanboys who'll chuck a buck towards anything. But overall, you'd probably be better off not.
Doing something like that would make players not want to play again, which is then cutting down your re-play audience which would heavily decrease profits from ad's both on the page and in the game.

Also, hi. Long time no see Newgrounds.

It just depends on the game... that stupid bejeweled is a crap game but its so casual that really super casual computer users, like soccer moms and tweens (no not the flash term, the under 13 crowd) find it easy to get into and so they are able to offer more enhanced versions for a really low price or whatever and license it out to all sorts of portals. It works because theyve already hooked their audience with a good offering just on the free test version.

I dont think bomtoons' idea is terrible, it may not have you rolling in money but theres an audience that does respect and follow the independent movement. I still pay for cd's and shit (even tho the actual artist probably makes a negligible amount in comparison to the other parties that take it off the top).

I dunno theres just no set formula for becoming an overnight millionare on a game. I'm sure theres exceptions. But yeaaaa... maybe im just not enough of a cutthroat business man like some people in the business that are well off.

*Ding* ok my macaroni is ready. im off to dinner.
