My very first flash which I attempted to submit to the portal back in '06 got blammed, it wasn't good enough to get through, and I know it shouldn't have got through.
But I wanted to test this theory of NGs slipping standards, so I resubmitted it.
It got a 2.3! That's not even meant to be a bad score - crazy :s

It is quite a bad score :P Anyway, how do you know you didn't just submit it at a bad time before? We need a bigger sample size to come to any accurate conclusions.

True, and true again lol.
But it is pretty difficult to do since you need to test this using old submissions compared to new submissions, although I do feel it is important that the Mods and Admins address this problem - but have no idea how they would do that :3

maybe they should have a new voting system:

Everyone gets a 1 vote, 2 vote, 3 vote, 4, vote and 5 vote each day and you can only use it once per day.

You only get experience if you use all your votes.

Probably has a lot of flaws but just an idea :3

No that wouldn't work.
I think the time has just come to get rid of blam/protect points and it's time they just double the daily experience you get if you vote on at least 5 submissions under judgement.

All of these ideas are silly :/ The fact is, NG's voting system works fantastically as it is. Sure some stuff gets a higher or lower score than it deserves, but that's Democracy for you. As it is, good stuff generally gets good scores; bad stuff generally gets low scores; thanks to blam and protect points everyones stuff is guaranteed at least a few hundered views.

Everything works as well as you can reasonably expect for a site frequented largely by early to mid teens.

I was looking at my first flash's score from 2005, I couldn't believe that NG allowed something to be blammed with a .05. I haven't seen that time of score in the obituaries in a long time.
People may be going for blam/save points, so they may just 5 everything for the save points.

Fame helps in passing lesser quality submissions too. I managed to pass a blank screen, and get underdog of the week with it.

True, but that's become less pronounced since they stopped displaying battling averages so prominently. Back then, anyone could just glance at one number to see if you were a probable blam or save. And your profile was in a smaller window, so they could check it with a quick popup :P

So you could effectively (without any external stuff) convert it to another language? If not it's still a mighty achievement.

The document you are in is probably set to AS3, change it back to AS2. AS3 only allows code in the frame.

A: post this in the flash forum next time. this thread is for discussion of random miscellaneous things.

B: try converting to AS2. though if you're a programmer i recommend learning how to do AS3.

Can we please stop using 'go back to AS2' as a solution to all CS3 problems? I mean, it is possible to at least consider using AS3 right? RIGHT?

hey i told him that if hes an animator. i also told him that if he's a programmer to switch to AS3. for animators, easier and simple is always better. thats why i'm never gonna learn AS3 probly.

That's not the issue. Every time someone has trouble with CS3, the line is to switch to AS2. I wouldn't mind it if it was given as one solution alongside the solution in AS3, but most of the time it's given as the one and only option.

Also, I just completed the obligatory 'defend the generator from the robots with your big fuck off gun' segment of my game :D Now if I can just get rid of those pesky bugs...

okay my mom's being an idiot right now.

basically what happened was last week i skipped out on a karate session because i didn't feel like it. my mom said it was okay, but i was going to the karate session next week.

about the day before all my japanese projects were due, i found a bunch of worksheets that hadn't been finished yet, and were crucial to me passing the class. if i didn't finish them, i would fail, and i had no prior knowledge of them beforehand.

but my mom said that i was going to karate. so i said OK, i'll go to karate. then, as my mom was out driving my sister to the driving school, i grabbed my backpack, left a note, and left to my friend marcus' house to finish my worksheets.

over the night i worked hard, and finished the worksheets, and the next day i was able to hand them in, and i was given a chance to pass the class. if i hadn't gone to marcus' and i'd gone to karate, i would've failed the class.

so then when i finally get home from marcus' the night of the incident, my mom accepts that i did the right thing and doesn't punish me. things were good.

then all of a sudden today i had a bit of garbage around my desk. my mom told me to get it off my desk, and said that "it's not happening again." when i asked her what that meant, she said that i'm not leaving garbage around my desk for two weeks. i told i've never done that, she said well now you have to get rid of it an hour after. i told her she's over-reacting a little bit and she asked me why. i told her that she thinks i would actually leave garbage by my desk for two weeks, and she said she never said anything about two weeks. i told her that she did, and then all of a sudden:

"you're grounded"
"what, why?"
"for going against me"
"when?"
"when you ran away, you should've gone to karate"
"but if i hadn't gone, i would've failed!"
"so? you made a commitment. i saw you playing video games before that, so you should've been doing your homework."
"but i didn't know that i had that homework until i picked up my notebook to study!"
"doesn't matter, you should've gone."

it went on for a bit like this, and then i won. that's when she changed her reasoning.

"i don't mind if you skip out on karate if you're doing homework, but the week before that you should have gone to karate."
"wait what? before you were angry at me for this week, and now you're angry about last week?"
"you should focus more on education then video games."
"but i was working. when i play video games, it means that i'm done."
"i'm not arguing about this any more. i'm going out to get coffee."

she backed out so that way she wouldn't lose again. while she's gone i unplugged her computer mouse just slightly so that way it looks plugged in.

Wow, your animation has come on loads!!!

This reminds me of eddsworld a ton but with a different quirkier style. you're a good animator Fluff even if you think you're not that great keep this up and you'll go far.

you're the second guy to have said that. i showed my script to paperbat and he said that it sounded like an episode of eddsworld.

and thanks for the feedback!

Well, I said if he's trying to use AS2, go to an AS2 document. I'm learning AS3 at the moment and it's mighty confusing, but I'll do it.

LONG STORY

The moral of this story is that you could've beat up your mom with your karate skills, but you skipped class and therefore are inferior.

Don't skip karate, now all you have is yelling at her in japanese.

Hey Fluff, you've got to understand your Mum with this. She could just be going through 'that time of the month'.
Or maybe she's just had a rough day, go say sorry (even if its not your fault), make up and go and spend some time with her.
Just be unexpectedly kind for once. It will put you on her good side. Also go and plug her mouse back in. Hope this helps.
