I hated those commercials (head on or whatever it was). They made me angry. Instantly repeating themselves as if they were selling their crap to a school of goldfish or something.
And on a side note, who all uses mouse gestures with their firefox?

i think they're hilarious, if not annoying. their newer commercials have actors that even say the HeadOn commercials are annoying. you must admit, that advertisement was very clever in how it was made. so much ado about it!

i used to, but only because it was like one of those semi-nifty widgets that you can say you have and show off, but is otherwise not very useful.

Not very useful?! It's the epitome of lazy! Right click, drag up and you have a new tab. Right click and drag left, you go back a page, and much much more. No need for the nav toolbar anymore, its all in the mouse!
Guys, you srsly need to learn which tangents are funny for more than a page and which ones should just be dropped :P
No good is going to come from taunting Luis.
In other news, OMG, ONLY A FORTNIGHT TILL I GET THE COOL LEVEL ICON. OMG!!!

With some color it can be cool looking, but I see no practical purpose beyond that point.

Not necessarily :P It could be really good for weird backgrounds in some totally mental game or animation.

Abstract art for an abstract flash, I see your point.

Yeah, I messed around with the colour settings to it in Fireworks so you could see it.

That's pretty cool. Flash does some funny stuff with it's whole smoothing process, so thats neat.

kinda looks like zekey style artwork :)
which is cool :P
if you could animate it <fbf or tweend> it'd be interesting :P
I was thinking about this earlier this week.
I noticed how the art forum has its art contests and shit, so why not have our own contests in the flash forum.
So this is still in development but i may be introducing something like that into the forum.
Prizes wont be as monster as Fulps', but it will be more themed to what the subject is... Like maybe its a tank men theme and ill have the prizes be signed tank men shirts or something.
But it may be a nice little addition to the forum and get things rolling beyond the endless stream of 'where do i get flash' threads..

Sounds like a pretty cool idea, be sure to have a contest for us actionscriptors too
My niece is autisic and she is learning her letters among many other things. She is learning so fast and is doing such a great job. She works very well with the computer so her parents bought her a touch screen laptop to play learning games on. she plays on this site alot http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/index/load. htm?f
she can do all of these games with ease so there is no need to make them any easier than this. she loves this site but has done it so many times im sure she is wanting something new. PLEASE help me make some games that she can use and learn with. I realize all you hard work will never see the portal because you might get made fun of but I could really use some help, Im trying really hard but im not having too much success.
also remember she has a touch screen so, you want to make games like drag and drop and point and click.
try to have it include things such as the sounds the letters make and the letter itself. her name is Ansley so if you want to include her name to add a personal touch feel free. Her dogs name is shadow. I would love it if you guys would help. Its not important if it looks super professional it just has to be user friendly. thanx pm if you need any information or help..

not really, but i do see alot of contests, challenges, and things of other sorts being....well, taken over by AS. While i do think that programmers deserve a chance at prizes just as much as animators, i think the two should deafinantly be completely seperate. not even the same thread. It always gets diluted with code and not animation otherwise.

sound sliek a great idea :D!
we should amke some ruels though cuz we dont want 100's of stupid 2 frame doodles and people moaning they cna't find anywhere to hsot the mvoeis.
but i'd be happy to join in :D!
it'd be like art contest +!
and to asoff10hot, newgrounds may not be the ebst palce to ask for such things :)
if you have flahs we'll be happy to teahc you some AS to make the game yourself < personal touch ;)>
i hope soemone manages to help you nontheelss :)
I'll have to talk to Tom about it, I think it would make sense to leverage the contest using whatever is going in the art thread and just provide an animated outlet for those interested.
Like if we had a contest running then it would be something like using little girls with big weapons as the theme for your small clip.
The floor is open to more ideas/suggestions.
More info soon.

It sounds like the old weeklies but more organised. It would be a great idea, be sure to have some common sense and keep the animation tasks small but good/difficult.
Who would be judging?
How often would they be (weeklies were too to often and let to it's downfall).
I'd suggest maybe setting a max timelimit to try and sway people into the animation side of it, rather than a funny unoriginal sound clip with poor animation.
All in all, it sounds good :D
SIG YOINK!
Sounds like a great idea luis. ^_^ but somehow the idea reminds me of that collab that was never made, hmmm.
I've recently been doing a mission, but its not going very well at the moment. Basically, i'm trying to prove that modern art artists/critics don't know what they're talking about. Some modern art is good, but i'm talking about art you'd find at the tate. Anyway, so i've thought about how to carry this out, and i've come up with the conclusion that if i can get my computer to create modern art, and can get art critics to like it and say they like all the "meaning" and "emotion" of the piece, then it proves that the critics don't know what they're talking about.
So basically, i've started by creating a sheezy art page (can be found here) and i've got my way of creating modern art. And at the moment, i've just been submitting all this shit to sheezy art with names like "falling" and "growth" and other random words. At the moment, i've had no comments, so it's not going too well, and i was wondering if any of you guys wanted to help out.
It'd be useful if someone could help me create new "modern art generators" which must be completely API and all lines, shapes and stuff drawn must be randomly drawn. (Eg you can't use lineTo to any specific points, otherwise you're telling the computer exactly where to draw). All decisions must be made by the computer. However, you can put limits, like tell it to draw a line somewhere between these points, or have an array of possible colours to use.
You can also have the details to the sheezy art account and so can submit your randomly generated modern art.
At the moment, i'm just trying to build up a portfolio, but after a while, i'd like to seek out some critics and see what they think.
Anyone want to help?
well i have people ask me all the time when the time trials are gonna be back (dont hold your breath) and i think this type of thing would sort of bring back that excitement of that series but sort of give it a new angle and feed off the excitement that is generated from the art thread contests. I dont have the judging or any of the mechanics in place yet, but I'm sure mindchamber would be down to blessing it with his expertise.
Definately agree with not having it be weekly, thats too brutal.
I'm thinking that it would be sort of like the time trials in the structure, the best 5 win the prizes and also get to be immortalized by being in the official entry that makes it into the portal as the winners of that theme (similar to how time trials were).
I think that would be cool, it brings back the flavor of the time trials but offering animation/flash related prizes that help you improve and/or become more part of the flash scene.

I think it would also be cool to bring back the AS wars we had about a year ago. We could see if we could get a t-shirt from Tom to shoot out to the winner, and I know we have enough AS-savvy people here to get a good competition.
