Since when was a V-Cam generally considered a valid way of managing scrolling in your game?

This is what happens when you let people flood the portal with half-baked coding tutorials they don't understand themselves >.<

I've ranted about the vcam multiple times in the past. It's not even good or anything, and people that don't understand how it works wouldn't be able to add stuff like rotation to it (not that you'd want to expand the vcam for rotation in the first place, it's easier to start from scratch)

You don't have any illusion of depth either, since you can't tell some parts of the screen to move slower or faster than others. Plus having a working UI with it is the most pointless bit of coding imaginable.

The annoying thing is, scrolling is not hard to do. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes to work out and debug the first time you do it and shorter every subsequent time. The majority of my scrolling code is just telling it where to zero in - the actual position adjustments just take two lines of code (plus another two for each background layer or whatever). Using a V-Cam to do that is completely counter productive - you'll spend vastly more time jumping through hoops getting it to work than you will just coding a scroll yourself.

On that note, who wants to teach me java so i can do my degree? I got a test on it in 3 weeks and didn't go to any lectures. I understand a bit of it, but all this class stuff confuses me.

Try getting a hold of El-Presidente. I kind of got him to understand some things about OOP and AS3 so perhaps he can pass it on. Cause, you know, there's less lost in translation between two people on the same end of the IQ bell curve. :D

Yeah, i might try that. I understand what you mean. However, i'm too lazy to PM him and stuff, so i might just wait to see if he or anyone else (with the required IQ) who has an understanding of java replies here.

Ya if you want nonuniform scaling and rotating it'll take a little longer... not that the vcam supports rotation or anything and not that anyone who uses it actually uses scaling or anything but still.

I think its had about 1.8 million views so far. Definately the best ive done with a game! It needs to spread on more websites or be featured by some bigger sites to get a serious viewcount though.
