Weekend

Gf's brother is playing a show so I'm gonna go to that. Probably go paint balling or to the shooting range. Idk. Oh, and because of some of the discussion here, I rented Burn After Reading. Gonna order some pizza and watch it on my gf's 42" TV :D

The only good computer programming courses at my school
are for IB only, and i declined my IB invitation when i was a freshman.

Had i known that i might have actually considered going into it. :/

BAR is good fun, just don't expect too much of it. It's just a standard bizarre Coen film, but it's still better than most comedy-thrillers and it has a brilliant cast. <3 Malkovich.

IB is the devil. the sexy sexy devil. i was in pre-IB for 2 years and all it was was more and harder work with higher expectations. and you HAD to take a language.
don't get me wrong, i liked being pushed to be awesome in school, but really. A LANGUAGE. bastards.

Since we already see the world in three dimensions, I started wearing 3-D glasses around so that I could see things in 6-D... The sixth dimension is blurry and discolored.

This weekend, I shall be mostly programming!

I finally got round to learning PixelBender today, so if ending my dry spell wasn't enough, now I'm really excited to get experimenting. Still, I have a game I have to finish first.

I have next week off so I'm home right now until Tuesday, then back to uni to do nothing until Monday :)

I never really bothered looking at pixel blender - it seems cool and I love image manipulation, but doing it in C++ is so much faster and cooler, plus it helps me learn I guess :p

You don't write shaders in c++

Well you can, but it'd be dumb to when you could write it in CG, HLSL, or GLSL and have it actually use the graphics card.

I plan to learn those just so I can do my c++ version of closure since the game is so shader heavy.

Pixel blender is just shaders? Ohh.. I thought it was just pixel (i.e. image) manipulation =P

I doubt this is available for Mac since it's Direct X based but theres a program called EffectEdit that has both a viewport where you can load any .x file and a text area where you can type HLSL and it renders the image in real time as you edit the shader code.. quite cool for learning :p

// These lines are just for EffectEdit: string XFile = "flag.x"; int BCLR = 0xff000000; texture Tex0 < string name = "GATLogo.jpg"; >; float4x4 matWorldViewProj: WORLDVIEWPROJECTION; float4x4 matWorld : WORLD; float time: TIME; struct VS_OUTPUT { float4 Pos : POSITION; float2 tex : TEXCOORD0; }; VS_OUTPUT VS(float4 Pos : POSITION,float2 tex : TEXCOORD0) { VS_OUTPUT Out = (VS_OUTPUT)0; float angle = time%360; Pos.z = sin(Pos.x+angle)+5; Pos.z += sin(Pos.y+angle); Pos.z *= Pos.x*0.08f; Out.Pos = Out.Pos + mul(Pos , matWorldViewProj); Out.tex = tex; return Out; } technique TVertexShaderOnly { pass P0 { VertexShader = compile vs_1_1 VS(); Texture[0] = (Tex0); MinFilter[0] = LINEAR; MagFilter[0] = LINEAR; MipFilter[0] = POINT; ColorOp[0] = SELECTARG1; ColorArg1[0] = TEXTURE; ColorArg2[0] = CURRENT; AlphaOp[0] = DISABLE; ColorOp[1] = DISABLE; AlphaOp[1] = DISABLE; } }

HLSL and CG use the same syntax or so I've heard if you want to go cross platform.

There's a built in one on mac for GLSL that does vertex, fragment, and geometry shaders in real time as you type the code too.

Yeah, I've not really used either except HLSL just for messing around with effect edit (just doing the challenges the lecturer set) but looking at CG it is the same :P

Yeah, I feel a bit guilty too. I've been going to Philly every Saturday for almost 6 months now for UArt Classes I'm taking there, and I YET to see anyone in the area. =(

I very rarely run into people of whom I recognise from whatever place. If I did run into someone from Newgrounds, it would be highly unlikely that they'd remember me.

How many types of fast food chain do you have over there? Here we've got Burger King, McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut, and that's about it really. Not trying to be stereotypical, but america does seem to have more places to buy a burger :P.

Shawn's so distinctive though, I can't imagine he'd be easy to miss. The rest of us aren't as instantly recognisable, so who knows, you might pass a NGer in the street and never realise

If you look at the (much smaller) list for the UK:

Bagel Nash
Bella Italia
Chicken Cottage
Coffee 1
Dixy Chicken
EasyPizza
Favorite Chicken
Little Chef
Millie's Cookies
Pizza Express
Pret a Manger
Prezzo
Shakeaway
Spud U Like
Square Pie
Strada
Wimpy
Wrapid

About half of those are "healthy" places.. although I've only ever heard of Bella Italia, Dixy Chicken, Little Chef, Pizza Express, Spud U Like and Wimpy =p
