Politics Forum.

Ever accidentally click on the politics forum instead of the flash forum and stay around and read the threads for a while? If you haven't I suggest you do.

Reading through the politics threads almost makes you feel like Newgrounds is an intelligent site. Politics is on the opposite side of the spectrum from the general forum. Most people there know what they are talking about, and can argue their opinion without directly insulting the other person.

Seriously, when you are sitting on newgrounds thinking about how much of a dump this place is (we all have those moments) go read a couple threads in the politics forum.

At least for someone like me who never goes beyond pushing out a little game now and again is as3 really worth it, in those hours I would spend over a few weeks to make the transitition could probably be better spent actually making something.
I should probably switch over, but as2 is still difficult for me most of the time so it seems kinda silly to jump into the deep end while I still have my water wings on in the shallows.

The Universal Rules

1-The reason its called the 'Reg' lounge is because it isnt so much about being a regular on the board as it is being a 'regular' to the flash scene and i want to make that distinction very clear. Disrespectful behavior, and or arrogance because you have 2XXXXX posts is untolerated and you'll be booted. Noobs to the board are allowed just as much as the seasoned poster.

2-This thread is not to get feedback on movies/actionscripts its to talk about the flash scene and your opinion on other related matters, debating is ok, polling is not.

3- Have Fun. If you are gonna get bent out of shape over a bbs thread then you probably should just unplug your computer and never plug it again.

Welcome Flash nerds!

Couple problems:

A) Booted? What the hell? Sorry, you can't boot someone from BBS.
B) Get a life. Seriously. Regulars thread? I mean, I know it's big know, but why exactly? Because a bunch of losers are willing to substitute for an actual IRC room or something even remotely similar?

This is a horrible idea... I mean, come on. It's just Newgrounds.

@ Dep, I think I'm going to have to buy a DS3 now, the r1 shoulderbutton on my controller isn't as sensitive as it used to be anymore since I've 'repaired' my controller. I've taken it apart again this morning (and put it back together all in under 10 minutes!) but I don't think I can fix it. It's a shame a new controller costs 69 euros...

It's only 49 at play.com, it says free delivery on everything, but that may be UK only. Still worth checking out.

It's a horrible idea? Then explain why there are almost 1.5k pages of posts.

The fact that this thread has become relatively populated over time is irrelevant to the claim that the original idea is bad. While it may seem for you as a proof that its popularity is a sign of its success, another person from a different perspective might argue, that while in its own goal it was successful, it may still be a bad idea on an outer scale; for example, if we did succeed in making it popular, but in the process of doing so we wasted a lot of time in our lives talking shit with other shitters.

CD's
So what have all of you done with your music CD's now that CD's are sort of on their way out? I found 2-3 boxes of jewel cases in my closet today and realized they are taking up a lot of dead space. I put one into an old portable CD player I had and realized people used to think portable CD players were hot shit. Like they were the iPod of our generation and if you were listening to cassettes you were living in the stone age.

Anyone else have a mini-disc player? Man, those were the days. Anything seemed possible back then.

in the future to replace the iPod...

I have absolutely no idea what they [Apple] could do next.

CDs

I still like to buy CDs when i have a bit of cash to hand, if i'm a bit skint i'll download although i don't really like doing it; Especcialy if it's an artist i'm fond of, I like to have the CD on my shelf even if all I ever do with it is copy it to the computer.

There's no duplicateMovieClip or attachMovie in AS3, those actions are now part of the MovieClip constructor class.

P

I'm on the same boat as you actually; I only started learning AS3 a few dozen minutes ago and duplicate movie just happened to be on the top of the Actionscript 2.0 Migration list. If you're serious with flash you should definitely look into AS3, I know a lot of people told you that and I'm probably not going to make much of a difference, but think about it. Personally I never really felt the need to learn AS3 as I wasn't using flash so much, and when I was using it, it was just flash 8. Now I'm confronted with problems that make me realise there are many actions and effects I want to produce which will cause too much lag using AS2, as gust says, AS3 runs 100 times faster.

I understand that most people on here only do flash as a hobby though, there's nothing wrong with staying with the good old cozy AS2. It's your choice truly.

Actually know of any musicians from there sellin' albums or CDs?
I wouldn't mind makin' a CD and sellin' it - even though you could totally just download every song online off of NG. :P

Orange
I was gaven an orange to eat days ago and its still sitting happily in its green plastic wrap in its safe soft little skin with its tastey juices locked away/
I ain't been hungry much though and haven't ate it obviously. Works great havin' junk near yeah though when animating. Like... if your drawing a tree it helps to have a tree outside the window for a reference or if your drawing fire a candle would be a neat helper.

Poetry
I've written 12 pages of poetry the last bit. Some of 'em I really like and who knows I may make an animation based off one or two. They got a lot of feelin' in 'em and it's just wonderful.
Hurray poems!
The sunshine felt warm and sweet on my tongue.
It was like dry sand mixed with sugar.
A breath of the days light to wake my mind.

The imagery I'm gettin' from some things - argh, I don't usually get the urge to draw stuff I see in my head but, I've been gettin' it harsh today.

Oh, I got my haircut today and the mullets been reborn too. Pics coming one day soon. :3

Yeah, but it's just like what Delta said earlier,
it's a lot nicer to actually have the CD on your shelf then
just all the songs on your computer.

I got an XBox 360 last week (an extravagant present for myself). Still haven't gotten these so-called 'points' but I basically spent the dosh mainly to play Portal and Braid. Also got PGR4, Kung-fu Panda, Indiana Jones and Gow/Gow2. It's good to be able to play current-gen games at my own home.

My usertag is acidBez
Add me if you will.

(Bezman, aciddica and Behrooz were all taken.)

CDs

Maybe in the future, CD players will be largely replaced by MP3 players with speakers. Whilst I know there are things an iPod can plug into, though, I don't know of any standalone mp3 players that you can just plug a USB stick in and then play songs from. Until something like that comes along, I still need to constantly burn 'mixCDs' if I want to have my songs blasting through the air for folks to enjoy together and share somewhere away from my PC. Seems wasteful from a material point of view, but oh well.

I feel like the only reason left to buy a CD is excellent graphic design. Ani diFranco's Evolve, with a cut-out butterfly on the sleeve and Underworld's best-of album were not bad but even then I'd rather pay half the price for a digital copy if it went to the artist and it was DRM-free.

CDbaby.com is nice like that.

As for my existing jewel-cases, well, they're on top of a fireplace shelf just behind my bed.
