my point is that someone who is pretty skilled on a pc will beat someone who is pretty skilled on a console, if they played a match pc vs console. Just face it, console games are made for having fun while lying on your couch and playing on your big screen tv, while pc's offer much more possibilities to your gameplay.

Completely ridiculous and not at all a valid point, even if you could prove it.

I don't want to start some PC vs. Consoles shitstorm but I completely disagree with that part. I don't see how you can do what you can with a SIXAXIS/Dual Shock 3/Wii (motion sensing) with your PC. A keyboard might have more buttons (I don't know whether that's good or bad), a PS controller still has a good 16 buttons. Which in turn can be combined in a more intuitive way than you'd ever could on a keyboard to create a shitload of button-combinations, which so far has been more than enough for me. For a FPS a mouse might offer a better accuracy, but for other genres I don't think PC's will ever beat consoles when it comes to playablity.

I can't argue with that ;) but when did I argue with you?

lol i just had this very same pc vs console argument on youtube. the youtube geek community seems to agree with me, that if you're tech savvy pc is better than console. consoles are better for people who don't know anything about pc's and can't get a gaming rig. it's easier to just buy an xbox and put the disc in it, ill give you that, but i still think PC is better overall.

Yes console gaming is easier than PC gaming, but that doesn't mean it's not as good. Mouse aiming is sensitive but analogue is too, it just takes time to adjust. I've played quite a few shooters on PC (COD4, Crysis, Left4Dead [if that counts], etc) and I prefer PS3. It's not that I'm more accurate with it, it just feels better. Although I suck with the 360 controller and don't understand how those analogue sticks are any good for FPS, PS3 is perfect (for me). I was playing COD5 on zombie nazi mode online with 3 other people who I didn't know. They were all about level 30 and I'm 15 or so, but that doesn't make any difference really. Anyway, all 3 of them sucked - they got about 90-100 kills with about 5-20 headshots, whereas I got 120 kills and 60 headshots.. we only got to level 11 >.> whereas with my rlf playing online just 2 of us we got to 12, with 2 less people :X Anyway.. point is.. I can get all those headshots with a PS3 controller, against the zombies (who run + flail their bodies), being on PC would not make that any easier or more fun :P

Like when I play, we have 1 or 2 guys guarding the door to the Help room while everyone else guards the windows in the room. Of course the people guarding the door are going to get a lot more kills because all the zombies swarm in there.

It wasn't so much the kills but the headshots.. I mean, if you get half of your kills as headshots you're going to be killing faster than if you're shooting the zombies chest.

It depends what you play more is what you are going to enjoy more/be better at. For example if i play PS3 for a while, then the xbox controller annoys me and i cant aim right, and visa-versa. I hand built a gaming PC too earlier this month, it's really quite easy if you know your way around the computer components, worth doing rather than buying a new one (if gaming).

Big unwinnable debate on gaming
I agree with Kayn's post waaaay at teh top of the page and also liams a few lines ago. Firstly the whole 'skill' issue is all relevant. I royally suck at navigating with a mac, i need to build up the skill and adapt to its personality quirks. Same with a PC, same with an xbox, ps3, wii (especially), etc.
So saying that it requires more skill is kind of redundant. It just depends on the user using it. I know some people that are hardcore gamers who play flight sims and they like being this dick-fingered octopus all over the keyboard. And when i play im like uhh can you just skip the part on the buttons that control the planes flaps and just tell me the 'go' button. lol

I also think that the whole two seperate universe thing between pc's and consoles is becoming more and more blurred and thus the whole pick a side thing is less and less valid. Consoles are becoming more 'computer-like' and computers are trying to become more casual person friendly.. so in a way you have these two planets trying to move to meeting in the middle.
Its kind of exciting. I mean 3-4 years ago you would think one was crazy to think you can setup minichatrooms on consoles and that you can download movies and shit. Times are changing as are the roles of consoles and computers. So I think the argument is just dumb.

I could go on forever and stray off the point of fps and pc/console. In the end you probably like one because you are comfortable there.. and theres probably others that like something else they are comfortable with. We can still be friends.

Unless youre glaiel and toast. they hate everything anyone likes. <3

Ok luis. I argue about this because it is annoying when I only have a PC and everyone else has fun on consoles I don't have. xkcd once again portrays my opinion perfectly ^^ . I just don't wanna spend like 300 euros on a xbox or whatever and in addition to it buy lots of console games. I use a PC anyway regardless of whatever i have a console or not, so I'd rather just have everything on my pc: games, flash, etc. If there was some thing that would let you buy games that work both on PC and xbox / ps, and if I had a decent screen tv, i would probably play console games from times to times. But as it is now I mostly don't play console games because of money issues.

Ditto, you wouldn't think it'd be too hard to use a mac when you use a PC so easily but when I touch a mac it all just goes to shit. I think it's that macs are trying to be different and thus not including things that are so simple in PCs (like.. a proper middle click for example) even though it makes it sucky. Some people do swear by them though, Glaiel for example and my friend whos mac it is.. though she has pretty much totally migrated to her PC because it's high spec and dual monitor and at the end of her bed :P

My build is coming along nicely. I installed the dvd reader, hard drive, and PSU. Once I install the motherboard on the case I just need to put the RAM and gfx card in (takes 20 seconds literally) and then put the heat sink on the processor. Then all there's left to do before I can play games is install vista :)

yes i went for vista .. It felt awkward to buy a new uber great PC and stick the the old XP. I hope it doesn't cause problems but im deffo not buying a new OS before windows 7.

Only issue will be the slow startup. At least that's the only thing my friend complains about on his new setup with vista on it. Happy gaming :D

I think the only thing that causes slow start up is if you have a ton of crap on your desktop, because it loads up all of that stuff so you can access it quickly. Also you can just use hibernate most of the time, instead of shutting it down, and the start up is faster. Someone who knows something about this back me up here, unless I'm wrong...

Also the major complaints i have about vista are that it is insanely stupid about security, in that I get prompted on my admin account to ok something that I just tried to do on my admin account... also I have to run in windows classic or else going in and out of objects in flash is messed up.

haXe even faster than ActionScript 3.0... again
I'm sure some of you have seen Adobe's Alchemy project. One thing they did was to port C++ games, like Quake to the flash player and it ran at a solid 30 FPS. Now, how does one get that speed from the flash player when with ActionScript 3.0 you can't? Nicolas Cannasse (creator of haXe) confirmed that there are 12 new undocumented opcodes in Flash Player 10 that ActionScript 3.0 doesn't use. He figured out what they did and implemented them in the flash API in haXe as seen here.

The only current way to access these opcodes is to either use haXe or Alchemy but with Alchemy you don't quite have the same control as with haXe.

So in short, haXe can be used to produce much better-running flash files than ActionScript 3.0 with either Flex SDK or Flash IDE. An even better reason to use haXe!

Just thought I'd share before Gust. :) Enjoy!

About Vista, I really like it. It's a way improvement over XP. At least the recent versions, the first versions were all crap but Vista has improved lots over time.

Slow startup? On my machine it starts up faster than on my old XP. Now, this could of course have to do with being a new computer or because I don't have many things on my desktop.

I like the security in Vista. If I want to install something or change something vital I have to agree to let the computer do it. If you're not careful there are viruses that try to install themselves and Vista pretty much prevents that. I feel way safer with Vista than XP.

The only thing I don't like about Vista (well, one of the few things) is the Aero theme. It looks really ugly (with all the blurring and transparent). I can turn it off (and I have) but then I don't have access to a numerous amount of extra features that I have with Aero. So that sucks.

My friends has an earlier version of Vista. He constantly gets an error popup that doesn't make sense and so he can't do anything about it but it close the window every time. And sometimes he gets two warnings before installing things etc. But I don't.

All in all, if you're getting Vista make sure it's a recent version because it's way better than both XP and the earlier versions.

I have to agree, XP was good but really you gotta use Vista nowadays. It sucked when it was first released but all major software does. Although the automatic updates are annoying, Microsoft provides excellent customer service such as releasing updates (much needed) to their software (including OS's).

Ditto, lol. My old laptop was 10x worse than this though so I put it down to that. Also you gotta edit the startup to make sure you aren't automatically starting a tonne of 3rd party crap when you turn your computer on.

I do feel safer and it isn't as annoying now as it was at first but it is still a bit too much at times. Never can be too safe with a Windows machine ;)

That's my favourite thing about Vista, to be honest. Aero is beautiful :P My friend also uses Classic theme, you're missing out on the sexay alpha transparenciness!

Weekend PLANS

Being in Canada Thanksgiving is long over, however the family is thinking a Turkey dinner just for the hell of it. Also the girlfriend wants to see Twilight....*sigh*

Perhaps I'll be a good drunken mess on Sunday night and call in sick Monday morning. Gotta use some of those free days.
