you have to store the data in multiple chunks of memory, then somehow deal with multiplying individual chunks together cause you can only multiply one 8 bit chunk with another 8 bit chunk (which it's nice enough to return as 2 8-bit chunks by placing the result in 2 special PRODUCT registers.)

So your building your own CPU? What sort of size is it (dimensions), because i'm guessing it's not micro technology or anything :D.
Ive noticed alot more actionscript based questions than stupid collabs. I am happy.
The stench of people atleast attempting to work on their projects is cool.

The only way everything would be perfect is if this forum was completely lifeless due to everyone working on projects and already knowing how to do it all on their own. Right?

I'm sad, 'cos that means summer is officially over.

Not really, I think having questions and having a hunger to learn or interact with other creative people is an important part of getting better at your projects. The beauty of flash is that theres so many ways of doing something, you can always learn something from someone out there

I agree that people need creative inspiration to help build upon their ideas and concepts but I think if you get too tied down to the repetition of a place like this forum it isn't of any use to you creatively. Not saying that there are people too obsessed with hanging around here and it is dragging them down, I just think that to really draw inspiration from people you best bet would not be coming into this forum. I find the odd user news post are sometimes really good places to get "in the mood", the same goes for some old school submissions. But really if people wanna get out of the box they should all go and watch some real shitty amateur films and local television.
I know this isn't really what you were talking about but yeah, just felt I'd voice that.

End of Summer
I am satisfied with the forum load from Summer this year. General stupidity and trolling were way down as apposed to previous years, and the annual "WTF This Forum is Sliding" topic never started... which means generally favourable seas for the Flash forum.
I also really like CriminalDuder for some reason. And Depredation, I'm glad he's still around.

Oh you. <3 Say stuff like that and I really will never leave.
I ADORE everyone here. :3
I'm frankly shocked when I realize how long I've been here cause it still feels like I just arrived. NG still smells fresh to me.
Uni Classes
Never taking a Sociology or Philosophy course again. Sociology was neat, but it's all group work and I really feel all I've learned is people from different social groups have different values and norms. Philosophy I've already gotten what I was after and find myself doing philosophy with friends and talking about all sorts of things that interest me. I really don't feel too joyed writing an essay on issues I care nothing about.
Creative writing was a great choice I'm happy I made. That class got me writing poetry again, got me writing again, taught me new writing tricks, and overall I enjoy the workshopping groups. Workshopping is great especially when you and your class mates get into it - it really can help you improve.
Maybe we should have some form of flash workshop groups on NG? :3
Be pretty simple. Upload your current project to spamtheweb.com or some shit, get some cool cats to check it out, then discuss it in depth - what ya liked, what ya didn't like, does the title work, does this make sense with this character, etc.
But ya anyway. Philosophy class is a boring and annoying while Sociology is just notes and group works and I feel like I'm getting nothing from either anymore. I only got the rest of this month, next month, then exams, and their done. I know I gotta battle through 'em, but I'd rather get my money for both courses back and ditch.
Next will be tough. I'm starting acting classes hopefully. Never been in one and never wanted too. I need Acting 1, Acting 2, and Acting 3 if I want to be allowed to take the one course I'm interested in - Directing 1, then Directing 2.
3 unwanted years of acting and random courses all to be able to take 2 high level directing courses.
Fuck I wish my uni didn't suck and had film courses at my campus.

Hear hear. Congrats to all the visitors to the forum for showing some maturity and generally being good people over summer. Guess that clampdown on the collab rules helped somewhat.
I also really like CriminalDuder for some reason. And Depredation, I'm glad he's still around.
Ah, see I see a Duder post and say "urk... not again". Sorry mate, you have that image in my mind as someone who decides to post about thier misadventures with weed because it's, like, teh kewl thing to do.
Money Issues
I love my money situation. Recently I've started spending more than I've been earning - nothing major because I don't do credit and loathe being lent money, but thanks to things like Reg Meets, going to London to attempt getting a new job, needing to replace my motorcycle helmet, more expensive food prices, and paying higher electrical rates in the run up to winter (I'm sorry E-On, but I'm £60 in credit with you. Why do I have to pay even more this month?) I'm starting to dip deeper and deeper into my overdraft - and this months' going to be REAL fun since I won't have my paycheque cash until the first week of November.
Any idea if Sponsors have been smacked upside the face by the global recession yet? The feel from the forum is that people aren't getting sponsorships as easily as they used to. I think I can salvage some dross I have incomplete on my hard drive and get it Front Page worthy...
Anyone else having fun with the credit crunch?

Away from Flash
I'm sort of disappointed into myself, because recently -- I've been away from the Flash Scene. It's kinda annoying, but I'm hoping to get back into it. I've just been really busy, and stuff with school and what not -- Which sucks. Bleh. :( I missed you guys, while I was away from the BBS.

<3. Good to see you posting more as well :).
Flash Game Publicity
Flash games are much more mainstream now, especially with the new 3D stuff coming out, and AS3 making everything a gazillion times easier. I noticed dino run in Games tm the other day(Glaiel), i'll try and scan it if i can. Just a little spot, but still nice to see some recognition for good games.
Summer stupidity
Yeah, i noticed the lack of bad threads this year, people seem to be contributing more than taking which is never a bad thing.
Sponsorship Woes

Yeah, i've noticed that. A lot of people don't even get a reply (myself included). I don't care if they think it's a shit game, but i just want a reply. Armor games replied 4 months after i sent them an email :P.

Sponsors are rich. they feel no pinch. Financial burdens rarely affect the wealthy cause they have so much money that they know what to do with anyway. Its the middle and lower class that get screwed over.

Idea for Flash Programmer Regs
Recently instead of posting actual code I've been only posting pseudocode. I feel this might help in creating better programmers. Now some problems would require exact code, but I feel we should show pseudo before just giving them the code. This will completely discourage copy and pasting and help teach them how to really program. Along with the pseudocode we should also at the bottom explain the functions, variables types, and loops used, but still not give them full code.
We all know all to well the joy of typing up actual working code, posting it to help someone, then moments later them say 'it doesn't do what I want fix it'. This new method will hopefully 'drill' home the syntax enough to breed better programmers.
My backing behind this theory is that my teachers in college would only show us pseudo code to show us the logic we should be using. Thats normally the biggest hurdle in a programming problem.
Any thoughts?

I think it's a good idea, but a lot of the noobs require you to spoonfeed them the three lines of code you tell them to use. Then again, there are others who are quite advanced, but are just unsure about what class to use for it.
I've been thinking a bit. Every time someone mentions something about money, like that I'll need to have money when I'm 18 to buy a car or w/e, I just re-assure myself by thinking that by the time I'm 18 I'll have loads of money from all the games I'd have. But what if I can't do it? what if I can't finish flash games? I've been on NG since I'm 12 and I haven't really gotten very far. I know I have decent AS knowledge, but what if I'm just unable to concentrate on work?

I endorse this. I've practiced this. I've seen it fail.
Thing is, we KNOW who to ask when it comes to needing a solution or a new way of thinking. I know to go to Delta and to Gust when there's a problem I can't solve and need an algorithm debugged.
But the problem is people download flash, think it's as simple as point-and-click, and decide to come to us expecting an answer. No one of those people ever wants to learn coding, at least not initially. Newbies simply don't know how to code, and noobs simply don't want to bother. Either way, the former group need to learn from examples, and the latter need to copy and paste.
Actual coders need more esoteric solutions, and posting code won't help them anyway, since they already know how, but need new methods of thinking.
...
I'm up for shunning the "GIVE ME THE CODE" kiddies.
WEB HOSTING!
Hey could anybody recommend to me a good site for web hosting, lots of features or w/e and low price or whatever you think is the best?

My biz.ly is performing alright for me, though mine's got a lot of ads on, for just $5 a month you can buy an ad-free version, I'm just too cheap (and an 11 year old, and I know it will get hardly any traffic, and...).
