Games I'm waiting for...
I'm currently mainly waiting for Rock Band 2. My Rock Band disc hasn't worked since the London Meet (I don't blame anyone, don't worry about it - the day I can't afford a replacement copy of a game will be a day I'll also be concerned more about something other than video games...), and hopefully it'll be intact enough to transfer the songs over. It will mean I have to upgrade to a bigger hard drive though.
I'm also thinking of getting Fable II and Fallout III. This is assuming the first set of red-rings I've seen on my 360 don't pop up again - I had a DVD connection error a few days ago which cleared up
Job Interviews
I clandestinely went to a few this week, and I suck at them (My mind stopped mid Flash-exam when I was asked to output the letters A-Z on repeated clicking of a button... recovered quickly enough though) . Still waiting from the multinational agency I applied to and seemed to make a good impression on...
Anyone else in London who knows of openings for a midweight actionscript developer, let me know. I want out and I want out now.
Usernames of Doom
My username ends up confusing a lot of people. That of course is thier own perception of what dykes are. Personally, I think of big earthern barricades designed to keep floodwater out of cities, and like the idea of hitting them with hammers.
There's a sliding scale in the back of my mind for first impressions on the net. The chances of making a good impression on me are guaged by the following
- Attempting to look like an expert by dint of having AS, Flash, Newgrounds, Master, Programmer or anything similar in your name will mainly earn my instant doubt in thier abilities and motivation. I wonder just how full of themselves a user has to be to try and stand out as an expert by dint of Username alone - doubly so when they change thier name to it
- Numbers, All Caps, spelling mistakes and the like instantly lower the chance you'll make a good impression on me.
- Cultural References or names based on toons from the Portal mean I'll never, ever, take someone seriously.
- Using the words Studios or Games in your name will set off a red flag in my mind. The one that says "come back in half an hour to shut that thread down after the flamewar concerning thier 'I want to hire some guys for no pay' thread gets out of hand"
And yes, unfortunately names like NG-Unit and patu1 stick out like sore thumbs when I look at posts they make. Admitedly, so do ones like liaaaam and Kirk Cocaine, but then again, I barely take the regs seriously anyway. Especially ones that seem to exist purely to get me drunk on Snakebite.
