Hehe, I'm definately holding off my next non-Christmas game submission untill the week after New Year :)
Or maybe Christmas.

I liked it. Best computer animated film ever is the incredibles though!
Eugh, I'm cramming a load of replies from the last three pages into a single post.

I tend to find that the important stuff stays with you for life. Sure, the actual vocabulary may slip your memory; names and parameters of functions; some aspects of syntax; superficial stuff like that. But the actual knowledge of the way the code works, and of concepts like returns and properties and methods will always stay with you, and they will also carry on into other languages.

Because of this, there is a window of optimal profit. Although it is possible that Sony has made a wise move and is merely producing the least amount of output while staying in the profit maximizing range, it is also just as likely that they intended to produce more, and are aware of this problem. Because the less supply for more demand = more $$$ only works to a certain point. There is a point where the buyers will forget about the product and buy something else instead, like a Wii or a 360. And I think $10,000 is a tiny bit too high of a price to rake in high sales.
Am I the only one pissed off by all of this rabid capitalism? I mean, okay, I appreciate that everyone has to make money, but even so all of these marketing strategies just look really cynical. I mean, they're treating buyers like meat. I know it sounds naive, but the world would be a hell of a lot better if companies like Microsoft and whatever treated their consumers with respect; as people rather than just as means to maximise their own incomes.

Always, man. Again, it's all a really cynical way of getting money out of people, with the exception that film producers are generally even stupider and more prone to raping peoples work than the console guys.
For the record, Shrek was a good movie. I don't like the idea of a sequel for it, but even that was made competently. And the Pixar movies; you can't fault the two Toy Story films, Monsters Inc was pretty good (even if the guys behind it had a weird obsession with Sully's hair) and their other big films had their own uniqueness and charm. Antz was cool as well.
Now, having seen how popular these movies are, everyone wants a piece of the 3D hype. They're either thinking "OMG WE CAN MAKE LOTS OF MONEY OFF OF THIS LOLOLOL", or "OMG 3D IS LIEK THE WAY FORWARD IF WE MAKE SOMETHING IN IT WELL BE BIG LIKE PICKSAR ROFLOL". If they have an idea for a movie which is for the sake of creativity, and which can be best expressed through 3D characters then fair dos, but the present state of affairs is just an attempt to leech off of other peoples own works.

Hell, I know someone who's such a Bond freak it's scary. She was going on all through the week about when it was coming out. Today she was a step of worshipping the new Bond guy, and she's going to see it another two times. Apparently she has every poster she could find, and she even went to some exhibition for it the other day.
I'm going to see it next week, probably. I need to see Borat first :P

Nah, I never can get my head around lying forward while making stuff. It's okay for ten minutes or so, but after that it gets really uncomfortable.
Desks are always the way to go. Desk with TV at head height = king. It's pretty good doing stuff in bed too, with the TV opposite and the mouse on a chest of drawers or something, but it tends to wear away the skin by your wrist from pressure unless you get the angle right.

I didn't really like it so much. I mean, it was a great film, but not so much greater than all of the other non-crap 3D films before it.
And Shrek was good even despite all of the celebrity voice acting (pretty pointless, if you ask me). Some of the jokes just bombed, but way more struck home and the timing was pretty good.
Diss other movies like Shark Tale and Madagascar (eww) all you want, but you can't diss Shrek.
Shrek was pure genious. I don't care what you say, it was original, funny, beautifully animated, not overdone, and not totally gay.
There are indeed too many computer animated films out there, alot fo them are crap, but if its from pixar its bound to be good, they started the whole freaking trend, and maybe dreamworks, but other ones are just people trying to make money. Flushed Away looks good, but today I'm gonna see Let's Go to prison.
Anyways I was watching attack of the show last night(best show ever invented K-Per and Olivia rock!) and they were talking about the dudes waiting outside best buy and what not for the PS3, and apparently there were muggings, mob fights, people broke into storesm, and this ones funny "A drive by BB-gun shooting" lol, now thats bad hype over the PS3.
Whilst the wii fans just sit there patiently, no one robs them because they aren't carrying the cash that the PS3 geeks are, and most of them are just waiting out so they can grab the wii, hold onto to it at the store till their parents come to pick them up and pay for the wii. A quiet riot for wii fans and a milly deadly one for the PS3 fans, also they said that last night at least one person would die trying to get their grubby hands on the PS3. phew..

Actually, you make a very good point, in my VB class we do things similar in concept and I understand it like *that*, I have a 100 average. That, in turn, will make me ace C++, then I'll have over 4 programming languages in my brain.

you may ace the class, but don't think for a second that a single class is going to teach you everything there is to know about a single language. In fact quite the opposite

Thats the way it always works man. Let me give you a quick overview:
Big companies - These guys NEVER do ANYTHING outside the box. With the exception of a few, the big companies do only what is guaranteed to rake in a lot of money. That's why I respect Nintendo, they're actually the only ones coming out with a new console. Sony is kind of new with their new cell techology, but Microsoft is still giving us the same box with more cpu and a higher price tag. (By the way, Microsoft is a prime example of my "Big company" defination (Or at least the current Microsoft). They never do anything new untill its a proven market, example:xbox).
Little Companies - These are the ones who have motivation other than money. These guys usually are run by respectable people. Most of the time, they take risks and develope groundbreaking technology. If these guys make a product, they wont ship their beta out and fix it later. It's done the way it should be. More often then not they dont make as much money as the big companies, who leach of off their original ideas.
Now this model actually does not just apply to the business world. I actually have seen it just as much in everyday life. The creative ones in my school aren't number one in the class, the people who can copy and find good answers online are. Once again people undeservingly moving up in the world, makes me fuckin want to kill people.
Whatever, my point is, you never see a big company coming out with the next best thing, it's always some little company that comes up with a cool idea, and then everybody else copy's.
And then there are companys like EA Sports, who ship the same game every year and people pay for the updated stats and (possible) some polished models.
And you know what else? This same thing happens with tv networks too. Think of survivor, and then the spinoffs on other networks (I think anyways, i dont watch tv often, i may be wrong here)
Whatever, thats my rant. That's why I get mad when People tell me they would rather get a 360 instead of a wii, I normally tell them I dont feel like buying the same system twice. I feel a little less infuriated about the PS3, I hope their processor is phenomenal, because that's really all they got going for them.

I wasn't saying that at all, I was just saying at the rate I'm going I won't have a problem passing programming classes that I plan to take. I'm not gonna learn the whole language or understand it all, I'll just pass the classes :D
I'm going to change that with C++ though, I'm actually going to take the time and LEARN the language.
But who knows? I'm only a freshman, I could change what I want to do in a second.
I just went to see Casino Royale. Excellent in my opinion. It was a lot more like The Bourne Identity/Supremacy than any of the recent Bond franchise, which I found very refreshing.

Lol. This thread is growing way to fast, anyway. Time for a helpful post :).
My friend told me about a site a few weeks ago that lets me upload up to 25gb (1gb a month) for free. I didn't believe it, or thought it would be very ady, but it wasn't. I've been using it 2 weeks and not a single ad or promotion letter. Anyway, the site is.
It's not a plug, i don't know whoever made it. I just thought it would be helpful for people to upload flash files or keep backup .fla's.
Check it out :).

So I think the job interview I mentioned a few pages back went well. They seemed fairly happy with what I could do in Flash, but didn't seem to be too happy with my lack of familiarity with anything else. Got all my fingers crossed for this job - which admitedly is making typing difficult...
Anything important I missed over the past two days?

What kind of things will you be doing with flash in this new job?
I'm interested
Things far less complicated than I've shown off as tech demos on these forums over the past few months. We're talking actual web-design stuff, not crunching games into 10mb for an ever demanding public. Mock ups of sites, graphic editing, simple interactions and possibly the opportunity for some animation and games somewhere down the line when it comes in
Which is one of the reasons I'm a bit worried. If they only need someone who can make buttons and work thier way around Flash, would they go out and employ someone who's learned enough about Flash to make fake 3d engines and side-scroller multi-weapon engines, or would they prefer someone who also knows ASP and the lovely world that is Web2.0?
I'll find out if I have the job a few days before the release of my next game... :/

It's not actually, it was made in the 60's but wasn't successful. It annoyed me seeing it say something simillar in the cinema's magazine. Casino Royale was the first Bond Book Ian Fleming wrote.

It's the last of Iam Fleming's books to be made into an official Bond film. Funny because it was the first to be written. Fleming sold it alone before all the other for much less. It was spoofed in the 60s but yeah, i was crap. Finally it's been done well. The confusion may have arisen there mogs: it's not the last he wrote but it's the last of the ones he wrote to me an official film.

So I was thinking of something.. its kinda fruity but things worked out so well for the ng sketchbook i figure why not atleast throw it out there.
What if we had like some sort of ng reg xmas gift swap.. nuthing elaborate or anything, but just something unique and inexpensive to where you live that you dont think someone may not be able to get... like last year my friend justin gave me a cheesehead hat.. which of course can only be found in wisconsin.. would i ever wear it no. but its a cool conversation piece and its memorable.
Of course theres those who would be beaten to a pulp by dad if they were to ever give out their address to the internet would obviously be excluded but i could manage it so that you dont literally have to post it on the thread but just pm me and ill just have one of you actionscript buffs just randomize and ill make sure the matching person is given the swap.
I dunno just an idea. Its kind of dumb.. but anytime ive ever gotten something in the mail i am like a giddy little kid.

I don't certainly think it should be random though. It would be a nice idea to do it between the flash reg community, ya know. That we could like, choose who to swap with. But Meh, im not sure.

well yeah i dont mean random through ng.. it would just be something within this group.. as much as i liked the sketchbook tour.. it was a huge pain managing it... atleast in this group.. i probably have most of yalls addresses and i feel like i know you all.

I know you meant not through NG, but i meant it shouldn't be random still. :P I don't know why. There's something that tells me that i'd rather much more give a present to someone I'm friends with than with someone I've seen post a few times. However, It's just for the christmas spirit to set up so i think it should be fine.
