From a Flash author standpoint, what does everyone think of these new things?

I think forcing co-authors and audio artist to get at least 1% of the revenue will just put people off co-authoring people.

heh, I like how your icon show's up on the side credit bar thing now..kinda cool, revenue wise im not quite sure ill work too well, oh well..

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2008-09-30 18:57:45

I know I shouldn't bitch about being banned, but someone posted a WoW screenshot on the video game forums and said "I rolled an item and got it lol".. I have no idea what it meant, and I replied saying it was stupid to post a WoW related thing so specific, not everyone plays wow so won't understand it. In a more insulting way, perhaps. Anyway, a mod banned me for 4 days.. "you are not a mod so don't tell people what to do". WHAT? That's bullshit >.> Sigh. Who the hell is Jercurpac anyway.

Anyway, what I was going to post on liaaaaaaaaaam: The new updates look cool, I don't think I'll bother updating my submissions but for new submissions I think the revenue sharing is a very good idea. The witcher ads remind me SO MUCH of GameFAQs ads.. :o

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2008-09-30 19:35:26

Uhh, showing the user icons is great and all, but when you go to a page like this one, where it has two authors, and a bunch of music, it really distracts from the actual icon for the submission.. that kind of bothers me, but eh. Whatever.. still pretty cool :p

1337 Page

I think the main failure of the 1337 page was no mod oversight. For 1000 everyone had to post a lolcat picture and only one post per person, and that was enforced, this time there were no rules or anything, not that it's really an obligation for a mod to do that, but it wouldn't have been hard anyway. I thought it was lame that people posted multiple times, and that people who aren't regs posted. Everyone speaking in 1337 speak seems like a pretty normal thing for the 1337 page. But it's over so w/e

Updates

The new updates are pretty sweet, I actually like the revenue sharing thing, because music artists really do deserve a cut, even if it's 5% each or something, and even then most of the time that there are ads the game is also already sponsored so in reality you're not really required to share 1% of the earnings. Also I'm glad they're putting in more categorization, I think that's something that's been really lacking from newgrounds for a long time, anything not put in a collection is pretty much lost to time, rather than being categorized for people to find later. In fact I think most game sites really fail at categorization, because there are so many games floating around.

How much % to music artists?
I know this really does depend on the game/movie and the music used, how it was used etc.. but I generally think people don't [won't] give enough % to the music artist. For me, at least 15%. I mean, music is such a big part of a game/movie (especially movie) that it really does deserve more. It's just one of those things that add so much, without us really knowing, yet when there's no music we definitely notice that something is wrong.

Well then you have to think about what happens if someone has a massive amount of songs. Does he give each of those artists 15%, or does he reduce how much he gives? There are alot of things wrong with categorizing someone as this much percent because alot of times multiple people/songs are used.

Yeah, why did non-regs post, that's annoying. Also, it was MY IDEA to post the cat pictures damnit! Fuck you. <3

Multiple time posters are annoying too. I went up to my grandpa's instead of going to temple, and he's 2 1/2 hours away, then I got home and almost immediately went to another dinner, so my Rosh Hashanah was crazy. Next week's Yom Kippur. Any Jews fasting with me?

In that case you would probably have to "prioritize" how much you give each person. Give the most % to the songs that are heard the most (and used the most) while a little to songs that aren't used as much. Or you could go all out and just give 15% to everybody ;D

I don't post here often but I have always read the posts here ever since I joined though I have never really consider myself a reg.

It wasn't until today that I noticed how far the content in this thread has sunk(not just the 1337 page).

I remember when people in the flash forum used to look up to regs because there was always intelligent conversations going on here.

Now, there is so much spam and so many of the users here are immature idiots that I don't blame the mods for giving up on trying to control the users here.

The saddest thing about this is that it really isn't the mods job to babysit certain users yet people here act like it is.
/end rant

Well you know, there are intelligent conversations going on in here often, like our previous discussion of division of Revenues, also upcoming flashes, upcoming event flashes (halloween, Pico Day, Christmas) and alot of others. Plus this isn't only a place to discuss flash, it's also a place to just hang out and talk to other people who are regs on the flash forum, you know, daily life, breakfast cereal, whatever!

You have to take that into consideration.

I don't like the givin' 1% thing either but, I'm sure it'll be killed quickly and we'll all have access to our profites which we'll use for our own desires.
I like the author details now - though it made me realize I've been doing all the work for Duder Entertainment almost. No wonder the guys use to joke saying Duder E. is just me.

Now then two important things (I come with a reason today)

Article suggestions
I've been thinking for months now about posting random articles written/reported by me and my friends on my site. Thing is I have no idea what to write about.
I don't want everything to end up just being about the magics of marijuana, drugs, how awesome Metal music is, teen insanity, and the ramblings of a hippy missing his mullet... or maybe that would work? :P

Second thing!
...I forgot. Shit.

98% of the time I do my own music, but for the few where I didn't I just did 1%. Those submissions aren't making money off of NG ads or anything so the % doesn't matter too much IMO, plus going through 40 submissions to alter % and credits got old fast... so I just took shortcuts especially knowing there's no money being made off my older stuff.

Hi guys. I've not been here recently because life has been a grand amount of 'suck' recently and didn't need moderator duties on top of it.

In very unfun news, I fell off my motorcycle, at about forty miles an hour. I now have pathetic looking road rash down my legs and sore ribs.

In unfun news, Nitrome don't want to hire me because I lack experience making games.

Im doing the same. Also Tom is going to get rid of the mandatory 1% thing. I originally thought it made sense but most of the deals ive negotiated with audio artists are based on a lump sum rather than on a royalty system. So it doesnt make sense that im forced to give up 1% on every song they've done for me... when ive already paid for em. 1% aint much but when its a game with 10 tracks 10% starts to become a titty twister.

speaking of NG ads - do I need to submit my game to the portal before I can get money? In /account/flashapi I can see the number of impressions I got but it doesn't register and clicks and money
