Yeah, my mate cut his hair for the first time in like four years too. It's really weird - suddenly he looks like a fourteen year old again.

You should have just improved upon the mullet. Think of it like this - you with short hair is your basic Tomb Raider character model - you with longer or more styled hair is the improved, fleshed out Tomb Raider II version, in all it's round-breasted glory. By cutting your hair, you're going backwards in character detail. You need to start accessorising to compensate!

The Mullet:
Eh, even if you do look younger, I think you look a lot cleaner. If I was a chick, I'd be more apt to bang the new you rather than the old one. All you need is some black t-shirts, the ability to snap, and some coffee.

Treerung's Game:
It was... Ok. But what's up with the hitTest for the water drops being at the top of the handle rather than at the curved dome part of the umbrella? Overall, not an exciting game, but I personally reject almost any game that requires using my mouse. (Laptop Pad)

Epic Final Battles:
I was trying to think of Epic Final Battles in video games I've seen. Mainly in an attempt to find something that I could adopt, warp the hell out of, and add to my own game. The FSF final battle, an episode of DB, and some other obscure things come to mind, but nothing "Epic".

Do you recall any boss battles that left your mouth open from the shear intensity or "Epicness"?

The last boss in MGS4 was epic, but it was more of an extended cut-scene than a part of the game IMO. Actually, I might make a list of things which MGS4 could have included to make it the best game ever, instead of just a really good one.

The Boss in MGS3 was the best in terms of drawing together all of the game's gameplay elements - that was also really well put together (I love how the music comes in five minures in).

The most epic battle for me will always be Jenova LIFE. It was just so intense how the sad music from Aeris getting stabbed carried through into the actual fight - it's proof that video games have their own category of incredible editing techniques.

Pretty much everything about Ape Escape was great, but the last boss battles in that had that great, futuristic Japanese late 90s epicness thing about them.

Also, I'm giving an honourable mention to the Buddah in Pandemonium 2, for pure insanity value.

Here goes:

1.Papu in Crash Bandicoot (the original)

2.Gnasty Gnorc in Spyro (the original)

3.Ripto in Spyro (Ripto's rage or Gateway to Glimmer depending on your nationality)

4.Crush (possibly wrong name) in Spyro (Ripto's rage or Gateway to Glimmer depending on your nationality)

5.Gulp in Spyro (Ripto's rage or Gateway to Glimmer depending on your nationality)

1.Running around overheadish dodging enemy belly flops and spinning when enemy is lying on floor after attack. (in arena)

2. 3rd person chasing after enemy dodging obstacles and gaining on the enemy. (when closer to catching the enemy fires backwards) (on long path which loops to avoid running out of level if catching up takes a long time)

3. 3rd person flying around dodging blasts of fire and attracking also with fire (possibly could have to fly through rings to stay airborne as an adaptation?) (in arena)

4. 3rd person dodging charging enemy. bombs are dropped from above and when pickup must be thrown at the enemy to injure them. Enemy cannot stop after beginning to charge. (in arena)

5. 3rd person dodging enemy attacks similar to 4. however to injure enemy must run onto platforms making enemy follow. When enemy enters platform rocks fall from above onto enemy. Enemy constantly follows character instead of charging. (in arena)

Theres five that I remember off the top of my head that I love. (As you probably guessed I miss the days of PS1's or PSX's whichever you prefer.

Mullet

It looks good man, definitely different, and it'll definitely have to grow on me, but it looks good. Did you stop liking pickles now too?

So I've been gone for a little bit. I've just been doing my own things mostly, getting some work done, hanging out with friends before they all go back to school at the end of summer, and playing a lot of volleyball actually. The olympics the past week or so have completely absorbed me and I'm obsessed. Nearly all events are absolutely intoxicating. I loves them.

I see that since I've been gone the thread was locked, and then re-opened. Thats interesting. I'm not at all surprised. I'm sure this will be locked for good one day, like the last one. It is the nature of the thread...

Either way, I'm still around and I'l check in from time to time, but probably not as much. Now that summer is winding down and school will be starting again hopefully I'll be more busy with more rewarding things to be done. I'll pop back and again. This is no goodbye at all, I'm just explaining that I am not yet dead and don't hate you all.

Epic

Even though not in a movie, I would have to say the battle between that weird form of Gannondorf in the 2nd Leaf Temple (when your an adult) in LOZ : Ocarina of Time.

What made the battle succeed so well was how it's 'batting' like attack sequence between you a Gannondorf was that it was so damn tense, and in an Epic game, being tense makes the fights even more enjoyable.

Just my 2 cents

Here's the new game I've been working on for a couple of days. Since I ran out of ideas I decided to make a Sonny ripoff. Right now it looks the same as Sonny because I copied some stuff from it, but eventually if I finish it, the final product will be very different. I drew animated and coded everything. At some point I'm gonna need a proper artist to replace those placeholders.

http://bay01.imagebay.com/bay.php?view=5 2464_rpgcc-1.swf&width=700&height=380

controls are same as Sonny - click the enemies or yourself to bring up the attack menu. Now you can only block and attack (melee swing or power attack). Oh and it has castle crasher graphics, I know >.> I've never drawn in flash before and it's the only thing I had inspiration for (no it's not traced).

I meant like button graphics etc.. I had to do it because my drawing skills are pathetic. As I mentioned it's obviously not gonna look as similar to Sonny as it is now. I'll change the interface and add many features that Sonny doesn't have. Besides, Sonny is a copy of many other games too. There's hundreds of games based on that same turn based battle system, just because i took a few graphics off Sonny as placeholders doesn't mean im copying the game pixel by pixel.

So is this a Castle Crashers knockoff or did you just use those sprites? And if it's actually based off it, you are going to clean up the animation right?

I'm an actionscripter not an artist. I discussed the motivation issue of working with crappy stickman placeholders with glaiel a few pages back. Because no one wants to see a badly drawn stickman bashing another one, I animated some castle crashers that I drew for fun. It's nothing to do with the game, they're just placeholders. That's why I need a proper artist to collaborate with me on this project.

Also I find it a bit offensive to say that it's all copied from Sonny. After all, I write all the codes myself. I didn't mean to show you guys some beta version or anything (obviously) just what I was starting to work on during my Productivity day. It's not as simple as it seems to code such a big RPG, you have to make everything fully customizable with the rest of the environment so you can easily assign different enemies in different battles and circumstances. It's not like I just screenshotted some sonny sprites and added buttons with on(press){_root.player.gotoAndPlay('atta ck');}

First of all, you haven't played my game either, merely a little test to see if making an RPG game of that sort is feasible. However that's not even the point. I didn't seriously doubt that your entire game was a complete copy of fire emblem, I was merely showing you why it's ridiculous to make a claim like that. I've pretty much seen as much of your game as you saw of mine, and I clearly stated that the graphics and UI (like have the attack buttons around the enemies just like in sonny) were merely placeholders. It makes no difference in the code whether the buttons are placed in the same position as sonny's buttons, and I'm only here to do the code. Besides, there's nothing wrong from getting inspired by other games, that's what they're made for. Sonny was inspired by another non-flash RPG which was probably also inspired by other things. It's like going to ubisoft and telling then not to make shooting games because it's a ripoff of other games.

The big bad collab lab
Hey you lot. I just watched the Newgrounds redesign collab over again. We should all participate in another collab just like that. What happened was one day we all made a part to it, then submitted it at the end of the day. Just so happens that day was the day NG went offline. Made us get some work done.

But yeah, we should all work on a one day collab much-like that, maybe not Newgrounds-orientated, but a one day collaboration nonetheless. It was fun to do, and speaking of 'getting the creative juices flowing', and finishing work, it was helluva easy to do as it was in one day. We aimed small I guess and for that reason there were no 'thats not good enough' motives holding you back.

What do you all reckon? We could host it after the Newgrounds London meetup next weekend when everybody is back home possibly?

Ey?

I loved all the ape escapes. I got up to the TV tower on ape escape one and on the loose (same as 1 but on the PSP) and the moon base on two. Some of my favourite "boss" battles will be the ones on assassin's creed, how the people talk to you with their dying breath and the story slowly builds up around what they said. The end of Mercenaries (PS2) was fairly epic also. For a laugh, I knocked the guy out, shoved him in a mafia jeep, drove away from the conflict, pulled him out, and shot him dead on the floor. It was worth the $50 million dollars I lost from the contract. Of course, I'll always love the spyro games. Only up to number 3 though, they sucked after that. I mean come on! You're playing as a dragon, and you have to UNLOCK fire breath? Top prize in my books, though, is again The ace of spades in Mercenaries. You have to stop a guy firing off nuclear missiles. Doesn't get more epic than that.

Click my sig for a hilarious thread.
