Quite possibly the best thing ever to exist in this generation of Hong Kong cinema (arguably). The fighting is choreographed so well and the stunts (especially the Hong Kong movies) look outrageous. Just look at the stuff!
Rumble in the Bronx fight
Drunken Master 2 ending fight
Jackie Chan's First Strike

I wanted to be a game developer since I was a little kid :) I'm getting a Physics degree, so if it doesn't work out then my backup plan is to go into teaching or research, depending on how much I've decided that I hate kids.

I'm sorta weighing it up. I'd probably go for a pilot though, me and my 20/20 vision =) I'd also enjoy the SAS. NOT BECAUSE OF COD4! It's just the sort of thing that I'd be able to do (and survive)
Sorry for d/p, but I just had two Huuuuuuge ideas. Well, a huge one and a helpful one. First, the helpful one:
I have found the solution as to whether or not you should be a coder/animator, right from when you start. However much you suck. Should I post it here or the forum?
Now, the huge one:
A treble competition-type-thing. The audio forum makes a bunch of music to a set theme, the flash forum picks their favourite and animates it, then finally the art forum designs an awesome poster for their favourite flash.
Did I double post? sorry...

Game design for me, hopefully. It's not an easy profession to get into, but i like it, and i'm not bad at it. Plus i've got work experience at codemasters in a few weeks, so that's a step in the right direction.

Religion
On that subject, are any of you really religious? Eg. believe in afterlife etc. I've never figured anyone to be.

Lawl no.. theres not point in living in the future if your not gonna live in the present.

It's one of those subjects that the British public generally treat with utter indifference. Like the monarchy.
Personally I don't find indifference that constructive. There're no gods, you've got one life to live - quit waiting for stuff to happen and do something productive today!
Results
How many UK guys got their results today, and if so how did you do? I don't want to bring up specifics, but I just got the grades I needed (literally a matter of one or two exam marks) in two subjects, and in Lit I did well enough that I may as well have just got wasted and slept through the last paper :P

Maybe I'm wrong but I think that most programmers are atheists, or at least a lot more than your average population. I don't believe in supernatural thing like a god, fairies, and unicorns, because there is no reason why they would exist, how they exist, and there is no single proof that they exist. I do believe that there are some form of life in the universe other than on our planet though, given the huge number of planets in our universe that contain same conditions that allowed life on our planet as we know it.
Seriously just read the bible and you'll see it's full of contradictions and things that don't make sense. It's funny that so many people who were very religious Christians became atheists after they read the bible. I don't think any reasonable intelligent person should believe in god in this day and age. Just think about if for a while and it's obvious that it was written by some random control-hungry freaks.

How is indifference not constructive? Surely being indifferent means you don't really care, and so you can go off doing something more productive while all the atheists and theists argue with each other.
You state that there are no gods. How is that constuctive at all? It just leads to a big atheist vs theist argument. This is why I find atheists to be just as bad as theists. They make silly statements out to be fact with no idea whether or not they're correct.
Agnostism is the way forth!

I got AAAA :D
Hey cybex how about you get a clue about what you're talking about before you talk about it? nice grades in school but it seems like you need a reading lesson.
Agnosticism means by definition that you think the existence of a god is unknown and unknowable.
Atheism (more accurately nontheism) means that you are not a believer. It's more accurate to say that atheists are simply not believers, rather than saying they are disbelievers. However that's not the point. You see agnosticism as a different level of degree in comparison to theism and atheism, like there's atheism, then there's agnosticism, which is in the middle of theism and atheism, and then there's theism.
The terms atheism and theism refer to your beliefs, the term agnosticism refers to what is knowable and unknowable. You can be an agnostic atheist (meaning you don't believe in a god but still don't think it is knowable whether a god exists or not) or an agnostic theist (you believe in a god but you don't think you can know he exists with absolute certainty).
We are both agnostic atheists, because I don't believe that ANYTHING can be proven to be non-existent with absolute certainty... well maybe some things but not this. So stop using terms differently like a prick.
Theism is just like a boolean. There's only true or false, no undefined or shit. If you're not a believer, then you ARE an atheist, whether you're an agnostic or not.
IM not really liking where this whole religion shpiel is headed... i feel like its going to brew into an e-fight. I do think that the connecting being a programmer to being athiest.. err kinda silly.
Yes talk about uk grades instead. :)

Toast: traditionally defined atheism is the rejection of religion, which agnosticism is not. Don't start discussing the definitions of words, it only shows you know nothing else.

That's what I said. Cybex claims he's not an atheist, but instead an agnostic. It's silly to say that because they don't apply to the same question: "do you believe in a deity"; "do you think the existence of a deity is knowable".
Don't start discussing the definitions of words, it only shows you know nothing else.
what?

Oh, well then i used the wrong words. Every definition of atheism I've found says its a belief that there is no God, though. This does not define me, and so I am not an atheist. Maybe agnostic wasn't the best way to describe what I was meaning though. All i meant was that I have no religious beliefs.
But yeah, I'm not down with my religious lingo.

I see the logic in that. I think a mathematician is a much more sober, investigative person than, say, an artist. A mathematician works with set rules on a daily basis so I think it would be harder to convince a mathematician that there is 'something' that exists somewhere in a non-logical manner than a non scientific person.
If my English was better that would have made much more sense, sorry.
Anyway, grades, I'm waiting for Delta.
find the percentage of Christians in america and compare it to the percentage of religious programmers. btw I didn't mean to be a definition nazi, it's just that it can be annoying when people distort words to make stupid claims, like that evolution is "just" a theory (meaning that it's not been proven, which is obviously false). as if a theory was just a guess or a random idea by some random scientist.

To be fair, it hasn't been proved, and is just a guess. The argument for evolution is very strong, and is accepted in science, but you can't go as far as to say it's been proven.
<definition nazi> it all depends what you mean by "prove" :P </definition nazi>
If by proved you mean it's shown correct with absolute certainty, then you're right. Phylosophically, we can't be sure of anything - heck, maybe the flying spaghetti monster created the universe, and maybe gravity is a false illusion created by the theory of Intelligent Pulling (the FSM pulling everything towards the center of the earth). However, based on empirical evidence, the most reasonable position to take is to assume the theory of evolution is true, because it's most likely true. Not only do we have a lot of evidence that points towards evolution (fossiles for example), but it also makes perfect sense with our current understanding of nature and how genes are passed.

Fair enough I stand corrected. I just dont want this all to brew into anything that steps on any toes. I know in general forum atleast, religion / race / moderators are sensitive subjects that inevitably result in rampage bans.
The conversation so far actually is quite civil and fairly intelligent than the usual 'what did you have for breakfast' topics in here .. so i guess my point is its fine to disagree just keep it sophisticated and mature (itll be hard Toast, i know :))

That's the lack of constructive argument I was talking about :P
I mean, think about it. Where would we be today if historical pioneers had just gone, "Meh, there's no way of knowing whether the Earth is round/there's more than one continent/we'll be able to immunise people against smallpox, so let's just ignore the issue and watch TV". You don't just go through life ignoring issues because there's a hint that the argument might not be 100% one-sided.

Those definitions don't know shit :/ Atheism is just a lack of belief. It doesn't make sense to say that belief isn't valid evidence in support of a point of view (which most if not all Atheists would agree with), and then actively apply it towards negative existence. That's just silly.

Evolution is an observed fact - you can see it happening in tonnes of organisms. Nobody can seriously dispute that genes mutate, occasionally in an advantageous way, and if such is the case then such genes prosper over their less successful friends.
The 'Theory of Evolution' is generally taken to mean the theory describing how evolution leads to new species, and the variety of life we see today (and even that's at least as reliable as what you might call the 'Theory of Gravity').
I didn't even compare programmers to artists. I'm just saying that I think the people who post on the flash reg lounge are generally part of the more intelligent people in the world. anyway im glad luis is letting us have those debates, I'll make an effort to act more mature

Woah, nice one, were they AS or A-level?
I see the start of religion, when it was first "thought up", as being a means of control over large amounts of people. Emperors were worshiped as Gods (who would betray a God?), and many religious prophets had a large following (more power!).
Religion is an excuse. For good, but mostly bad things.
(this is just my opinion, feel free to rip it apart)
