Psh, what kind of a role-model are you? Remember, drinking is bad for your health, kids! Don't end up like mr. Castanon.

More AS3 bugs

Apparently Flash has now decided that a certain MovieClip and everything nested inside it doesn't have any frames. Yay.

Bethesda sounds like a fun time. Of course, my wanted future job at Valve would be a step up for me, seeing as how if i wanted to design a lot id have to learn some 3d. Of course i can always learn. Hard or not it still seems like i can have a good time there with the team.

Hey guys, I've been learning C++ like MAD and was wondering if you wanted to team up to make something cool. I think it would be a fun experience... interested?

Platform Issues

I can't seem to get rid of the jittering and the sinking. I made a for statement to detect if the character will hit the ground before the full gravity value is added and I modify as such. It worked, but now I still have jittering issues. When i get rid of the jittering, the sinking comes back. It's very frustrating because it works perfectly in one frame, but comes up with issues in the next. Grr....

Metal Gear Collab

It really is the best collab i have seen on newgrounds, 10/10. And Stampers part at the end, oh wow.

Yeah, there was a load of impressive stuff there. Really top notch. Anyone who didn't think that it was totally epic deserves an unnecessary medical procedure.

Mindchamber's "Take on me" parody was my fave. That was some quality stuff.

That had to be my fave part too. Some stuff was pretty hilarious I must admit, even the ones with poor artwork seemed to add that extra bit of awesome stuff I'd expect from an NG collab.

To be honest I liked the first Shift. Sure, it copied Portal and tried to use that type of humor but it worked pretty well. Shift 2 and 3 however, I just don't like. The puzzles got pretty repetitive, and bland. Nothing really new or fun was added in, just same ol' game with more levels. And the humor just got boring after the first one. So Personally I don't really like Shift 3 :/

In what ways?

It's different than the average tactics game i'll tell you that, but if I tell you why then it gives away what makes it original, and since i can't make it right away I won't be telling you what it is right now.

(so I'm waiting a few years and doing it for the xbox live arcade)
Why wait? You'll need an impressive demo (and maybe a good amount of luck) to get approved fro this. Are you intimately familiar with C++, DX and the programmable graphics pipeline? If not, it'll very likely take a few years to get there, and then still be a challenge to work on an unfamiliar platform. Or is that the reason for the wait?

I'm learning how to do c++ and 3D graphics and stuff in college. My 3D knowledge is very limited, and my c++ is basic at the moment. Plus, XNA uses c#.

And being able to make a live arcade game costs $99/year. That's why I chose that platform. It's a good way to get known without needing to get lucky with the licensing thing. Cause I can make it first.

Me and my coders were talking about making a game for the live arcade in a bit, but we couldnt find the details about how to get the contract to have it on the xbox console library can you like explain how I would do that if you know?

thank you in advance.

I guess I can respect that. I whatever is is could still be done in Flash (though probably scaled back). But whatev, if you wanna target the 360 then there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm learning how to do c++ and 3D graphics and stuff in college. My 3D knowledge is very limited, and my c++ is basic at the moment.

I've been to college, I have a degree in Computer Science (minor Math). I don't think college is going to be quite as helpful as you think. Don't get me wrong, you'll learn a thing or two no matter what your experience is currently, but ultimately it's just a process for getting a piece of paper. Chances are you won't be learning C++ or touching DirectX in school minus an optional class or two which still won't teach you close to what you'll need to know.

Learn to do this stuff yourself, and learn to do it well, and start figuring it out as soon as you have the time to. Even if you DO come across it later on in school, it'll be a snap since you've already got it down.

Plus, XNA uses c#.

There's a difference between the Creators Club (the $99 thing you speak of) and XBLA. In the past *(and my knowledge only extended thus far before my previous post) XBLA games were written using C++, XDK/DirectX, the programmable pipeline ONLY, etc. You submit a demo, which can be done in whatever language... absolutely does not matter. If MS is impressed by the game, you sign lots of stuff and get a devkit on loan to develop the game.

* As it turns out, there was a keynote in late Feb. in which it was said that XNA would soon be supported on XBLA. I'm not sure what the status of this is currently, but if this did go off without a hitch, then C# and XNA games could be translated to the 360 platform much more easily. Still, this is the 'new thing' not the de facto standard--that's C++/XDK/DX.

Haven't really though about the whole live arcade thing yet.. seems a little far for me <_<

It's a pretty damn good show, too bad Season 2 isn't quite as good as Season 1. I can't wait for S3 to start in september.
